The right answer depends on your platform: Minecraft’s official guidance covers updating mobile devices, backing up and moving worlds, and testing in-development Preview builds, but it does not describe those features as a way to install a past public release.
First identify your platform and the exact release you want. Windows, Android, iPhone and iPad, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch procedures are not interchangeable, and the official guidance reviewed here does not establish an older-release installation workflow for every platform.

Can you downgrade Minecraft Bedrock?
Minecraft’s official support guidance does not establish a supported, cross-platform method to select and launch a specific older Bedrock version. The documented mobile instructions explain how to check for or install an update, not how to downgrade. For other platforms, the reviewed official guidance lists Bedrock availability but does not document a procedure for installing a previous release.
That is a limit of the documented guidance, not proof that every platform store or policy handles older releases identically. Check the current official support and store options for your device before changing or reinstalling the game. Minecraft lists Bedrock for Windows, Apple mobile devices, Android and Chromebook, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation; instructions for one platform should not be assumed to work on another.

What to expect on each platform
Windows
Minecraft lists Bedrock for Windows 10 and above, but the official material reviewed does not describe a supported way to select a previous Bedrock release. Do not treat Java Edition launcher instructions as proof that Bedrock has the same version selector: Minecraft identifies Java and Bedrock as distinct editions with different platform availability.
Android
Minecraft’s mobile version guidance covers updating to the latest version, not installing a chosen older one. It says mobile devices normally update automatically and directs users to their mobile operating system’s update steps; compare the version shown on Minecraft’s launch screen with the store listing when checking whether the game is current.

If troubleshooting involves removing Minecraft files or reinstalling, protect your worlds first. Minecraft’s guidance distinguishes worlds saved in External file storage, which can be copied to a computer or another Android device, from worlds in Application storage, which require a different transfer route. Follow the relevant storage guidance before deleting or moving files.
iPhone and iPad
The mobile guidance points users to the App Store’s update instructions and version history to check the current release. It does not document restoring or installing a selected historical Bedrock build on iPhone or iPad.

Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch
Minecraft lists these consoles as Bedrock platforms, but the official material reviewed does not establish a workflow for installing an older public release on them. Check the current official platform support and store options for your console rather than applying steps written for Windows or mobile.
Preview is not a picker for past releases
Minecraft describes Preview as an in-development Bedrock version for testing features before release on supported consoles. The reviewed instructions do not say Preview can launch a selected earlier public version. Use it only if you want to test in-development features and your platform supports it—not as a substitute for a historical-release archive.

Back up worlds before reinstalling or moving files
A world backup protects a save; it does not roll back the installed game version. Before troubleshooting that involves removing files, make a backup using a method supported for your device. On Android, the storage location matters: Minecraft documents copying externally stored worlds to a computer or another Android device, while Application storage worlds need a different transfer path. Follow Minecraft’s world storage and transfer instructions for the location you use.
Realms also handles world saves rather than game releases. Minecraft says Realms automatically backs up worlds and supports restoring a save, which returns world progress to the state captured in that backup. That action changes the world state; the cited restore instructions do not describe changing the installed Minecraft version. The separate world-transfer instructions say both devices should run the most recent game version.

Can you play with friends on different Bedrock versions?
Minecraft’s multiplayer requirements say players need Bedrock and matching game versions to join a Bedrock world, server, Realm, or LAN game. The guidance recommends the latest release to avoid errors. Coordinate the exact version with everyone involved and confirm that the server or world supports it before trying to connect. Do not confuse legacy console editions with older Bedrock releases
An older console game listing is not, by itself, evidence that it is an older Bedrock release. The official material reviewed does not establish that legacy console editions are simply earlier versions of Bedrock. Check the exact edition and product listing before assuming that an old console edition provides the release you want.
