Yes, Roblox works with Google Chrome, but the correct method depends on your device. On a Chromebook, you normally install Roblox from Google Play and play through its Android app. On Windows or Mac, Chrome opens Roblox.com and hands the game off to the separate Roblox desktop application. Roblox does not run as a full game inside a Chrome tab, and old browser-plug-in instructions are obsolete.

How to play Roblox on a Chromebook
1. Check for Google Play
- Click the time in the bottom-right corner.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Look for Manage Google Play preferences, then follow the prompts to enable Google Play and accept its terms.
If that option is missing, the Chromebook may not support Android apps. A school or work administrator can also block Google Play and app downloads. Google’s instructions are at Install and use Android apps on your Chromebook.
2. Update ChromeOS
- Open Settings.
- Go to About ChromeOS.
- Select Check for updates and restart if prompted.
Roblox recommends an up-to-date ChromeOS installation. Roblox lists ChromeOS version 53 or higher, but that number alone does not guarantee compatibility; the model must also support Android apps and Google Play.

- Open the Google Play Store from the Launcher.
- Search for Roblox.
- Verify that the listing is the official Roblox app.
- Select Install.
- Open Roblox from the Launcher, sign in or create an account, choose an experience, and select Play.
Roblox documents this Chromebook approach in its Chromebook troubleshooting guide; Google also lists Roblox among games for supported Chromebooks at Recommended Chromebook apps.

Controls and pointing devices
The Chromebook version is the Android/mobile app. Touchscreen controls may appear, while keyboard and trackpad behavior varies by device and experience. Roblox states that its Chromebook app does not work with Bluetooth mice or other Bluetooth pointing devices. Use the built-in trackpad or a wired USB mouse instead.
How to play Roblox in Chrome on Windows or Mac
- Open the current version of Google Chrome.
- Visit the official Roblox website and sign in.
- Open an experience and select Play.
- If prompted, download and install the official Roblox application.
- Return to Chrome and select Play again.
- Approve the prompt to open Roblox when Chrome asks.
Roblox lists Chrome as a supported browser for Windows and Mac, but the game itself runs in the desktop application. Its published computer requirements are at Computer Hardware & Operating System Requirements. Roblox lists 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, macOS 10.13 High Sierra or newer, and DirectX 10-level graphics support for Windows. These are published requirements or recommendations, not a promise of smooth performance in every experience.

If Chrome keeps asking to install Roblox
Use only the official application. Close Chrome and Roblox, restart the computer, and try the experience again. Do not follow guides telling you to enable the old Roblox Launcher Plugin: Chrome stopped supporting that plug-in model, as Roblox explains at Roblox Launcher Plugin.

Does Roblox run entirely in a Chrome tab?
No. Chrome is the website and launch point. Windows and Mac hand off to the Roblox desktop client; Chromebooks use the Roblox Android app installed through Google Play. There is no legitimate Roblox Chrome extension, modified APK, unofficial launcher, or “play without downloading” site that replaces these supported applications.

Requirements and limitations
- Roblox lists ChromeOS 53 or higher for Chromebook use.
- Google Play and Android-app support must be available on the specific Chromebook.
- Roblox’s Android requirements include Android 8.0 or higher and OpenGL ES 3.0 support, but those figures do not independently guarantee that a Chromebook will work.
- Roblox recommends approximately 4–8 Mb/s of internet bandwidth. That is guidance, not a latency or performance guarantee.
- School- and employer-managed devices may block Google Play or Roblox.
Extended-updates warning
Google says opting into ChromeOS extended updates on eligible older devices removes Android app and Google Play Store support. Check your model’s update policy before choosing extended updates if Android apps such as Roblox matter to you. See Google’s extended-updates support page.

For broader browser or network issues, Roblox recommends checking security settings, wireless connectivity, extensions, and blocked traffic in General Connection Problems. If the issue persists, contact Roblox Support with your username, exact error, Chromebook model, ChromeOS version, and reproduction steps.

When you need another device
- An unsupported Chromebook has no standard supported Roblox installation path.
- A managed school or work Chromebook may require the administrator’s approval; do not bypass policies with Developer Mode or unofficial APKs.
- Linux is not officially supported by Roblox.
- If extended updates removed Google Play, use a supported Windows or Mac computer, supported mobile device, or Chromebook model instead.
The Bottom Line
Quick answer: On a Chromebook, update ChromeOS, enable Google Play, and install Roblox from the Play Store. On Windows or Mac, open Roblox.com in Chrome and launch the official desktop app. If Google Play is unavailable, the Chromebook model, administrator policy, or ChromeOS update status is likely the reason.
