To play The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask on Nintendo Switch, use the Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online app. Access to its N64 game library requires a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership; the standard Nintendo Switch Online plan is not enough. Nintendo lists the game in the library, but availability varies by country, so check Nintendo’s local listing and membership terms first.
Get Majora’s Mask on Switch
- Confirm access. Sign in with the Nintendo Account you use on the console and make sure it has an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Nintendo says the N64 collection is not available in every country. See Nintendo’s N64 library listing and Nintendo Switch Online membership information for current local details.
- Download the app. Open Nintendo eShop, find Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online, and download it. Nintendo’s Majora’s Mask announcement directs Expansion Pack members to the N64 app.
- Launch the game. Open the app and select The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask from its game library.
- Choose a supported controller. Use a compatible Switch controller, then check the app’s View/Change Controls screen to see or customize the current button mapping.
Nintendo describes the app’s games as reproductions of their original N64 versions, and says performance and presentation can differ. The library supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes; Nintendo notes the experience may differ on Switch Lite.
What to expect from the game
Majora’s Mask is set in Termina, where Link’s adventure revolves around a repeating three-day cycle. Characters follow routines tied to the clock, and quests often depend on where or when you meet them. The game also uses masks that transform Link into different forms, each with abilities suited to particular challenges.
The clock is part of the puzzle, not just a backdrop. Use the in-game notebook and map to keep track of leads, and learn how the cycle and saving system work before setting out on longer explorations. When an obstacle or task suggests a different way to move, consider whether one of the transformation forms could help. These mechanics are described in the original Nintendo 64 instruction manual.

Controllers and button settings
You do not need the N64-style controller to play. Nintendo lists Switch controller support and control customization for the N64 app. The separately sold Nintendo 64 controller is an optional choice if you prefer its original-style layout; Nintendo explicitly says it is not required for the Classics collection.
To use that controller, pair it with the console, launch Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online, and start the game. Nintendo Support’s pairing instructions cover those steps.

The original manual describes two Z-Targeting options: SWITCH toggles targeting with a button press, while HOLD keeps it active as long as the button is held. Switch app mappings can differ from the printed N64 diagrams, so use the app’s View/Change Controls screen for the assignments on your system rather than assuming the original button labels apply to every controller.

The original game manual explains saving in connection with the passage of time and the game’s data files. Nintendo’s Switch library listing also says players can save and return to play, but it does not establish every current suspend-menu behavior for this title. For emulator-level suspend options, consult the N64 app’s current menu; treat those separately from the game’s own save system.
