Open princejs.com to play Prince of Persia in a modern browser. PrinceJS is an HTML5/JavaScript reimplementation based on the MS-DOS version, so you do not need to download an emulator, install a plug-in, or obtain game files.

Go to https://princejs.com, click or tap inside the game window, and press a key to continue past the title screen. If the main site is unavailable, try the project’s GitHub Pages version.

The PrinceJS repository lists a Summer Release dated May 22, 2026. It describes the project as an HTML5/JavaScript reimplementation of the MS-DOS version of the classic game.

When you reach the sword, press Shift to pick it up. In combat, use Left and Right to control distance, Up to block, and Shift to attack. Space is not the attack key.

Playing on a phone or tablet
PrinceJS documents a mobile mode, but the game is easier to control with a physical keyboard. For touch play:
- Open princejs.com in your mobile browser.
- Rotate the device to landscape orientation.
- Keep the game open in a single browser tab.
- Use tapping and dragging across the game area for touch input.
- Optionally add the page to your home screen for a more fullscreen-style launch.
Touch controls can be less precise than a keyboard for running jumps, ledge grabs, and sword fights. The project recommends disabling the browser’s landscape tab bar where that setting is available.
For a more forgiving game, open https://princejs.com?strength=50. This sets guard strength to 50 percent instead of the documented default of 100 percent.

Controller support
The project documents controller mappings, although the exact behavior can vary by browser, operating system, and controller:
- Left/right stick or D-pad: move.
- A, R, or ZR: jump, climb, or block.
- B, Y, L, or ZL: drink a potion, grab a ledge, or strike with the sword.
- X: show the remaining time once; restart the level twice.
- Minus / Plus: previous or next level.
- Any button: continue the game.

PrinceJS supports URL parameters for readers who want to adjust a session:

These are features of the reimplementation, not standard controls from the original game, and changing them can reduce its intended challenge.

Is this the exact original game?
Not literally. The first U.S. Apple II release of Prince of Persia was published on October 3, 1989, according to Jordan Mechner’s archive. PrinceJS is a modern browser reimplementation based on the MS-DOS edition, not the untouched Apple II executable running natively in a browser.
Different releases for Apple II, DOS, Amiga, Macintosh, consoles, and other platforms can differ in graphics, sound, timing, controls, level details, and presentation. PrinceJS aims to recreate the classic gameplay experience, but it should not be described as an exact reproduction of every port or as an official Ubisoft browser release.

The project’s repository identifies its code as Unlicense-licensed. That should not be confused with an official license for the Prince of Persia name, characters, original commercial assets, or the wider franchise.

The keyboard does nothing
- Click directly inside the game area.
- Make sure the browser tab is active.
- After the game loads, try Enter or another key to continue.
- On mobile, use the touch interface rather than expecting a desktop keyboard layout.
- Try the GitHub Pages fallback.
The game is too small
Rotate a phone or tablet to landscape and try the documented width option if you need a particular display width. Browser zoom may help, but its results can vary.
Touch input feels inaccurate
Use a keyboard or controller if possible, keep the device in landscape mode, and consider ?strength=50 for a less punishing session.

Sound or performance is poor
Reload after granting browser sound permission, close unnecessary tabs, or try another current browser. Behavior can vary by device and browser, so no single browser can be guaranteed to work best without current device-specific testing.
For a native desktop version
If you want configurable controls, save/load functions, replays, mods, or a local native build rather than zero-install browser play, see SDLPoP. It is a separate open-source port based on a disassembly of the DOS version and documents Windows, GNU/Linux, and macOS use.
PrinceJS can also be run locally by developers or preservation-minded users. The project’s documented setup requires Node.js:

The simplest route
For immediate nostalgia, open PrinceJS, click the game area, and use the arrow keys plus Shift. It delivers the classic MS-DOS-based Prince of Persia experience directly in the browser without an emulator download.
