You can play Xbox games on a PC, phone, tablet, or select TVs in three ways: stream eligible games from Xbox Cloud Gaming, stream games running on your Xbox console with Remote Play, or install a PC version locally. Cloud Gaming does not require an Xbox console; Remote Play does. Which options work depends on the game, device, region, and plan.
Choose how you want to play

Cloud and Remote Play both stream video to your device, but they are not interchangeable: Cloud Gaming runs games on Xbox servers, while Remote Play uses your own console. Local PC play does not stream gameplay from either.
Play Xbox games on a PC
Stream with Xbox Cloud Gaming
- Open xbox.com/play in a supported browser and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Choose a game marked for cloud play. The available games and subscription eligibility vary, so check the live catalog before choosing a title.
- Connect a compatible controller if the game requires one, then start playing.
Install a PC version
Use the Xbox PC app to find, install, and launch PC games. This option runs a PC version on your Windows computer, so check the game’s PC requirements and confirm that you have access to that version. Owning a console copy does not automatically give you a PC version.
Stream from your console with Remote Play
Connect to your Xbox through the Xbox Remote Play experience. The console runs the game and sends the video to your PC; the console and game must be available to you. For current setup and device requirements, see Xbox Remote Play.

Play Xbox games on a phone or tablet
Use a mobile browser for Cloud Gaming
On supported Android, iOS, iPadOS, and other compatible mobile devices, Xbox Cloud Gaming is accessed through a browser rather than a dedicated Cloud Gaming app, according to Xbox’s December 19, 2025 getting-started guide. Go to xbox.com/play, sign in, and select an eligible cloud game.
Use Remote Play for your own console
If you own or can access a configured Xbox console, Remote Play streams games available on that console to your mobile device. Xbox lists Android 6.0 or later and iOS 15.1 or later on its Remote Play requirements page; check it for current requirements and setup details.

Connect controls
Pair a supported Bluetooth controller with your phone or tablet for games that need one. Controller support depends on both the device and the game. Some games offer touch controls, but that is not available for every title.

Xbox offers a direct app route on supported LG and Samsung smart TVs and select Amazon Fire TV devices. Open the Xbox app on a supported device, sign in, connect a compatible controller, and choose an eligible game. Check the Xbox TV compatibility page for the exact TV model, year, or Fire TV device: support is selective and may change.

This TV route uses cloud streaming, not a game installed on the television. Xbox says most available cloud games on TV require an active Game Pass subscription, and the game, plan, and regional availability must all line up. Confirm eligibility on the compatibility page and in the cloud catalog before relying on a particular title. A controller is needed for most controller-based games.

Check these details before you start
- Game eligibility: A game may be available for local PC play, Cloud Gaming, or Remote Play in different ways. Check the route you intend to use rather than assuming every Xbox game works everywhere.
- Plan and region: Cloud access can depend on subscription eligibility and regional availability. Check the current catalog and Xbox’s device pages for your location.
- Device compatibility: Browser, operating-system, and TV-app support are not universal. For TVs in particular, verify the exact model or streaming device before buying hardware.
- Controller support: Confirm that your controller pairs with the target device and works with the game. Some games support touch controls; many require a controller.
- Console access: You need access to the console and installed game for Remote Play. Cloud Gaming does not require owning a console, while local PC play requires a PC version and suitable Windows hardware.
