Prepare by progressing in Monster Hunter Wilds, choosing and practising a weapon, and waiting for final weapon-specific move details before planning an aerial combo. Capcom has announced Ascendance for 2027, but its combat mechanics remain in development. The expansion’s announced Boost Action system is distinct from the previewed Seikret traversal through updrafts and gliding.
Meet the requirements to start the expansion
Ascendance is a paid expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, not a standalone game. PlayStation says the base game is required, and that players must reach Hunter Rank 40 and complete “Awaking From a Dream” to start the expansion story and enter Master Rank. Check your progress against those requirements before launch. PlayStation’s September 3, 2026 overview describes the requirements and a free Prologue Demo that lets players try all 14 weapon types.
Capcom announced a 2027 release and says the expansion adds new quest ranks, locales, monsters, and expanded weapon actions. As of October 4, 2026, it was still in development. Capcom’s June 8, 2026 announcement is the source for the schedule and expansion details.
Choose a weapon to practise now
Use the base game or the free Prologue Demo to find a weapon whose regular handling you enjoy. The demo is a practical way to try all 14 types; there is not yet enough finalized information to say which weapon will be best for aerial damage in Ascendance.

Practise familiar fundamentals with your chosen weapon—its normal attacks, defensive options, and how you create openings—rather than building around a move that has not been documented in its final form. Once Capcom publishes weapon-specific demonstrations, use those to learn the new action for your weapon.
Separate aerial traversal from aerial combat
Capcom has announced Boost Action, activated through the Boost Bracer, as a feature that temporarily enhances combat capabilities with weapon-specific actions across all 14 weapon types. That is the confirmed expansion combat feature to watch for. Its final controls, move details, and balance have not been established in the available official announcements.

A PlayStation hands-on preview describes riding a Seikret through updrafts and gliding among floating landmasses in the Skybound Eyrie. This confirms previewed traversal, not a universal set of aerial attack combos. The September 16, 2026 hands-on report covers that movement in a development preview.

- Check access and progression: own Monster Hunter Wilds, reach Hunter Rank 40, and complete “Awaking From a Dream.” These are the stated requirements to begin the expansion story and enter Master Rank.
- Pick a weapon: try the Prologue Demo if you want to compare the 14 weapon types, then practise the one that feels right to you.
- Follow official weapon demonstrations: check Capcom’s future updates for the Boost Action tied to your weapon and its confirmed controls.
- Wait for final details before optimizing: do not treat preview footage as a definitive combo or balance guide while the expansion is still in development. Capcom says more details will follow in official updates. Capcom’s announcement notes that further information is forthcoming.
When finalized moves are available, compare weapons by control complexity, time spent airborne versus grounded, ability to reach openings, defensive recovery, and how much you like the regular moveset. Those are useful questions for evaluating the options, not a present-day ranking of them.
