To prevent audio drift in a 4K 60fps YouTube Live stream, test the complete signal chain under realistic conditions, confirm that capture devices use the frame rate they actually output, and use YouTube’s stream-health warnings to spot configuration problems. First determine whether audio is consistently offset or grows increasingly out of sync: a measured, stable delay may respond to a sync offset, while progressive drift calls for investigating timing, clocks, devices, and capture routes.
Identify whether the sync error is fixed or getting worse
Watch the stream at more than one point. A constant gap between a visible event and its sound is a different problem from a gap that grows as the broadcast continues. A fixed offset may be adjustable; repeatedly changing a fixed sync offset will not correct an error that accumulates over time.
- Stable offset: The picture and sound are misaligned by about the same amount at the beginning and later in the stream.
- Progressive drift: They start close together but separate more as the stream runs. Investigate capture timing, device clocks, audio configuration, and the route feeding OBS rather than treating it as a simple delay.
Compare the received stream with OBS’s local preview or recording. This helps establish where the mismatch first appears. A local preview alone is not a sufficient test of what viewers receive.
Run a representative test before going live
Use a private or otherwise controlled test with the intended resolution, frame rate, camera or capture devices, audio sources, and OBS scenes. Include movement and real audio rather than checking only a static preview. YouTube’s encoder guidance says: “Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during the event.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Start the test using the same signal chain and scene setup planned for the broadcast.
- Make a sharp, visible audiovisual event—such as a clap—near the beginning, then repeat it later.
- Review the received stream at both points and note whether the offset stays the same or increases.
- After each material change, repeat the test and check YouTube’s stream-health messages.
Check capture-device timing and audio settings
Match each capture source to its actual output
Set each video capture source to the resolution and frame rate its device actually outputs. AVerMedia’s GC553 OBS setup instructions specifically advise matching capture resolution and FPS to the source, and show examples including 60, 59.94, 30, and 29.97 fps. Do not silently treat 59.94 and 60 as interchangeable in source configuration. The guide’s procedure is specific to the GC553 setup; other devices may have different controls. See AVerMedia’s GC553 setup instructions.
Make audio sample rates consistent
Check OBS’s audio sample-rate configuration and the properties of the audio devices in the chain. YouTube’s current live encoder guidance recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. Its API also recognizes 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended rates and can flag other current sample rates. These are platform recommendations, not proof that a sample-rate setting alone prevents clock drift. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and the YouTube Live Streaming API health details describe these checks.

Use a sync offset only for a measured, stable delay
If repeated tests show the same offset, adjust the affected source’s sync offset in small increments, then test again. AVerMedia’s GC553 guide shows the Sync Offset control in OBS Advanced Audio Properties and gives a range of -50 to -200 ms for its documented setup. That range is not a universal recommendation; measure the delay in your own chain and use the control only if the offset remains stable.
Use YouTube stream health to narrow down configuration problems
Read the actual warning rather than assuming every health message explains an audio-sync problem. The YouTube Live Streaming API lists possible issues including audio sample-rate errors, sample-rate mismatch between primary and backup streams, frame-rate mismatch between primary and backup streams, video ingestion starvation, and long keyframe intervals. A warning identifies something to investigate; by itself, it does not establish the cause of drift. Consult YouTube’s LiveStreams health and configuration details.

Set a suitable 4K60 YouTube ingest configuration
YouTube’s current live encoder recommendations include the following settings. They are ingest guidance, not a guarantee against audio drift. The right sustainable bitrate also depends on the encoder and the connection delivering the stream.
| Setting | YouTube guidance for 2160p (4K) at 60 fps |
|---|---|
| Video bitrate | AV1 or H.265: 35 Mbps recommended; 10 Mbps minimum. H.264: 50 Mbps recommended; 14 Mbps minimum. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio sample rate | 44.1 kHz for stereo; 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3. 5.1 surround sound is supported only for AAC over RTMP/RTMPS. |
| Latency | YouTube does not offer its low-latency option for 4K/2160p; these streams are optimized for quality and set to normal latency. |
These recommendations are from YouTube’s live encoder settings page, accessed in 2026. Normal latency is context about delivery delay, not evidence that it causes audio drift.

Treat dropped frames as a delivery problem
OBS defines dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. They point to network delivery, which should be investigated separately from audio synchronization. OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guide recommends lowering bitrate to a sustainable level and checking network stability. Dynamic bitrate may help avoid drops, but it is a fallback rather than a root-cause fix and can lower video quality.
If reducing bitrate or resolution is necessary to stabilize a constrained connection, treat that as a quality-versus-delivery trade-off—not proof that you have corrected a device-clock or capture-timing problem.
