Match the format to the channel goal
If the goal is reach, YouTube describes programming that is accessible and broadly appealing. If the goal is subscriber growth, introduce the channel’s identity and give viewers a reason to return consistently. For a gaming channel, that might mean a recurring format viewers can understand at a glance—such as a weekly ranked session, a new-release playthrough, or a community game night—rather than an unpredictable mix with no clear promise.
Use audience timing as a starting point

How do I get more viewers on my live stream?
Make the event easy to encounter and easy to understand, then use each stream’s results to find the next experiment. YouTube’s guidance does not quantify a general audience increase from any one tactic, so avoid promises of a specific viewer count or percentage lift.
Make the click decision straightforward
A viewer deciding whether to click needs an accurate title and a relevant thumbnail that quickly communicate the subject. After the stream, check impressions and click-through rate alongside views. Impressions describe opportunities for the thumbnail to be shown; click-through rate helps you assess how often those impressions led to a view. A low figure can point to a packaging question worth investigating, but by itself it does not establish why viewers did or did not click.

Read them together: traffic sources show where viewers found the stream; average view duration helps you assess how long they watched; impressions and click-through rate help describe exposure and response to the packaging. These measures can help distinguish limited exposure from a title-and-thumbnail issue, viewing that tails off, or discovery concentrated in one source. Choose one useful test for the next stream
After reviewing a broadcast, pick one change tied to what you observed—for example, clarify the event title, share the link through a channel that previously brought viewers, or try a different start time informed by your audience report. Keep the rest of the plan stable enough that you can compare the next event meaningfully. How do I get people to come back to my stream?
Give returning viewers a recognizable program and leave useful material available between broadcasts. YouTube says live archives upload automatically by default and advises that making archives public can support reach for future streams. Organize archives and highlights into playlists so people can browse related material. Check archive visibility and any content rights before relying on a recording as public viewing material.
