You can queue new podcast episodes in OBS without restarting the YouTube live stream: keep OBS connected to YouTube and change the media playing inside the active scene. Use OBS’s VLC Video source for an ordered playlist, or individual Media Sources when you want to choose each episode manually. YouTube receives the encoder feed; OBS determines which media appears in it.
What “queue” means for a live stream
This is an encoder workflow, not YouTube’s viewer watch queue. YouTube Live Control Room receives a feed from OBS using a stream URL and stream key. The episode or playlist is part of the OBS scene sent through that feed. YouTube’s guides explain the encoder connection and stream settings, while OBS documents the local-media playback controls.
The steps below configure media changes while OBS remains connected. They are not a guarantee that every computer, media file, or network will switch without buffering or interruption. Test the transition and audio before relying on it live.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live

In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select an encoder-based stream. Follow YouTube’s live-streaming setup instructions.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream into the corresponding streaming settings in OBS. YouTube describes the stream key as the credential that directs the encoder feed to your live stream; see Manage live stream settings.

Start streaming from OBS and confirm that the feed appears in the Live Control Room before changing episodes. Do not reset a working stream key just to add media. If you do reset it, update OBS with the newly generated key.
Choose how to queue the episodes

Set up an ordered OBS playlist

Install VLC if it is not already installed, then open OBS and select the scene that feeds your YouTube stream.

Add a VLC Video source to that scene and add your local episode files to its playlist in the order you want them to play. OBS lists common local media formats, including MP4 and MP3, among the formats supported by its media sources.

Leave shuffle off if you want episodes to play sequentially. Set playlist looping only if you want the list to start again after its final item.

Review the source’s behavior when it becomes hidden or visible. OBS documents visibility and playback settings that affect whether media continues, pauses, or stops when the source is inactive. Choose the behavior that fits your scene rather than assuming playback continues in the background.

With the YouTube stream running, let the playlist advance and check the Live Control Room output. For a lower-risk check, test the transition in a private or unlisted stream first.

Switch episodes manually with Media Sources

Add a separate Media Source to the active scene for each episode file you may want to play. OBS’s Media Source supports local video and audio files.

For each source, review “Restart playback when source becomes active.” Enable it if that episode should begin at the start whenever you show the source; disable it if you need different restart behavior.

During the live stream, show the source for the episode you want and hide the previous one. OBS’s Sources Guide explains how to show and hide scene sources.

Check the output after the switch. Source visibility and playback settings determine what happens to media when it becomes inactive, so verify both the picture and audio rather than relying on the scene preview alone.

How to avoid interrupting the encoder feed
Keep OBS’s streaming output running while you change the active media source or allow the playlist to advance. YouTube receives the encoder feed, while OBS sources determine the media included in its scene. Changing the media source is therefore distinct from stopping and restarting the stream connection.
That division does not guarantee a seamless transition in every setup. A slow or problematic file, a source configured to stop when hidden, or an encoder or connection issue can still disrupt playback. Verify the result in the Live Control Room and listen for gaps or overlapping audio.

An episode restarts when you switch back to it: Review “Restart playback when source becomes active” on that Media Source.

A hidden episode stops or behaves unexpectedly: Review the source’s visibility and playback behavior settings. Test the transition before using it during a public stream.

YouTube no longer receives the encoder feed: Check OBS’s streaming connection and the stream URL and key in YouTube Live Control Room. If you reset the key, replace the old key in OBS.

The video changes but the audio is silent or overlaps: Check the active source and OBS audio levels, then test the change in a private or unlisted stream before relying on it live.

Queue only episodes and accompanying audio you have permission to stream. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance covers platform requirements; using a playlist or keeping an encoder connected does not change the rights obligations for the media you broadcast. Confirm the episode files and any music, clips, or artwork meet your permissions and YouTube requirements before going live.
