After Grandpa’s first evaluation at the start of Year 3, you can request another one by placing a Diamond in Grandpa’s Shrine in the northwest corner of your farm. If you want a better result, improve your farm’s milestones before offering it: the Diamond triggers a new evaluation, but does not add points by itself.
How to request another evaluation
- Check your candle count. Grandpa’s initial evaluation happens at dawn on Year 3, Spring 1. The shrine remains available if you did not earn four candles.
- Improve any milestones you can. The score reflects progress made by your farm and character. Decide what to work on before spending a Diamond if you are aiming for a higher candle count.
- Offer one Diamond. Put an in-game Diamond into the slot at Grandpa’s Shrine, located in the northwestern corner of the farm. The Diamond is consumed.
- Wait for Grandpa’s return. The evaluation commonly happens the following day, though it may be delayed until a later game load or the start of a new season.
- Collect the reward if you qualify. When the new evaluation lights all four candles, interact with the shrine to receive the Statue of Perfection.
The shrine’s note says, “Wait for my return at the dawn of the 3rd year.” After the first evaluation, its prompt offers a Diamond-shaped slot for requesting a re-evaluation.
How the candle score works
There are 21 possible evaluation points. The candle bands are:

Use the milestone list to identify points your farm can still earn. Earnings thresholds are cumulative: reaching a higher threshold gives the listed total for that milestone, not the sum of every lower row.

The friendship check for villagers is slightly below the visible eight-heart mark, but the precise relationship value is not shown in-game. The Community Center and ceremony points are unavailable if you convert the building into a Joja Warehouse.
If Grandpa does not appear the next morning
A next-day return is typical, not guaranteed. The event may wait until the game loads again or until the beginning of the next season, so a missing cutscene immediately after offering the Diamond does not by itself mean the request failed.

There is also a cutscene-order exception: if you marry on Year 3, Spring 1, the marriage scene can take precedence over Grandpa’s first evaluation. The shrine still records the rating, and the evaluation scene plays the next time you enter the farmhouse.

At 12 or more points, all four candles light and the shrine lets you collect the Statue of Perfection. It produces 2–8 Iridium Ore per day. Grandpa’s evaluation does not otherwise change the game, and you can continue playing indefinitely.
