You can run a 24/7 YouTube stream from another country, but you cannot make YouTube recommend it to US viewers simply by setting your channel country to the United States. YouTube says channel location settings are not used to inform recommendations. Build a stream that genuinely serves the audience you want, then use YouTube Studio analytics to see whether US viewers are finding and watching it.
What actually influences whether US viewers see your stream
YouTube recommendations are personalized. The platform considers what viewers watch and enjoy, and how they respond when a video or stream is offered. Your physical location, a VPN, or changing the channel’s country is not a reliable geographic-targeting switch. YouTube explicitly says location settings are not used to inform video recommendations (YouTube performance FAQ; YouTube’s Recommendation System).
For a gaming channel, make the stream easy for the intended audience to understand and choose: focus on a clear game or format, use language and presentation that suit the viewers you want to reach, and describe the content accurately. These choices make the stream more relevant to people; they do not guarantee that YouTube will distribute it in a particular country.
Set up a stream that can reach viewers anywhere
- Check live-stream eligibility. Confirm that your channel is verified and not restricted from live streaming. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the prerequisites and setup process: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Choose a useful, sustainable format. Decide what viewers will get from the stream—for example, a game-focused broadcast or a clearly defined recurring program—and ensure the language, schedule, and presentation are suitable for the audience you want to attract.
- Write accurate metadata. Use a specific title and description that reflect the actual stream. YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery, apart from helping with common misspellings; do not rely on tag stuffing as a way to target the US. See Manage live stream settings.
- Schedule when it helps your audience plan. If you have enough existing viewer data, use it to choose a start time. A scheduled stream can appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, and subscribers may opt into notifications. Scheduling helps people plan to watch; it does not itself target a country. YouTube’s audience guidance explains the available reports: Understand your YouTube audience.
- Select an encoder only if your production needs one. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming and documents software and hardware options. A hardware encoder can suit higher-production-value events, but YouTube notes that expensive equipment is not required to start (YouTube live streaming tips; encoder setup).
- Test before relying on the broadcast. Check the preview, confirm the picture and sound, and monitor stream health in YouTube’s live controls. A test helps uncover production or connection problems; it cannot ensure recommendation reach. YouTube’s live streaming tips cover preparation and monitoring.
- Clear rights for everything you broadcast. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for every visual and audio element, including music, for the territories where the stream is available. The applicable permissions depend on the material and circumstances; consult YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and obtain appropriate rights.
Use YouTube Studio to check whether US viewers are watching
Do not infer US reach from your channel settings or from the location where you operate. Check YouTube Studio’s Analytics > Audience reports instead. Top geographies shows where your channel gets the most watch time. The When your viewers are on YouTube report uses the previous 28 days to show when your viewers are online (YouTube audience analytics guidance).

Use those reports as feedback, not as a promise of future distribution. If US viewers appear among your top geographies, compare their viewing activity with your schedule and adjust the stream’s timing or programming where the data supports it. If they do not, revisit whether the topic, language, title, and presentation clearly serve the audience you intend to attract. The reports describe actual channel audiences; they are not a control for selecting who receives recommendations.
Plan the replay separately from the 24/7 broadcast
A continuous live broadcast is not a dependable way to create a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says it can automatically archive a stream that is less than 12 hours long; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. The guidance does not say that every longer stream will fail, but you should not count on a complete archive for a 24/7 broadcast (Archive live streams).

If preserving the whole program matters, consider running shorter sessions where practical and keeping a separate local recording. A local recording protects your own copy; it does not change YouTube’s archive behavior or its 12-hour guidance.

For a do-it-yourself broadcast, use YouTube’s encoder workflow: prepare the stream in YouTube, configure a supported encoder with the stream details, test the preview, then start the encoder and monitor the broadcast. The exact encoder controls depend on the software or hardware you choose; YouTube’s encoder instructions explain the platform setup. If the encoder runs on your own computer, that computer and its internet connection must remain available for the broadcast.
