To rebroadcast a prepared video feed as a new YouTube live stream, create or schedule an encoder-based stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder with the stream URL and key, test the feed, and start it. If you mean sending viewers from an ended stream to a later event, use YouTube Live Redirect instead: it hands off viewers but does not retransmit the original video.
Choose the right kind of rebroadcast

These are separate workflows. Choose encoder-based streaming to replay or transmit a prepared feed as a new event. Choose Live Redirect for an audience handoff after the originating stream ends. YouTube’s encoder setup guide and Live Redirect help describe the respective workflows.
How to send a prepared feed to YouTube Live
1. Check channel eligibility
YouTube’s getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16. Check the channel’s eligibility before planning an event. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance has the current requirements.
2. Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create an encoder-based live stream, or schedule one for later. Scheduling creates a watch page in advance, giving you time to prepare and share the event.
- In the stream settings, locate the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key as a password: it authorizes the encoder to send video to your YouTube stream. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.

3. Configure a compatible encoder
Use a software or hardware encoder that accepts your source feed and supports the required output settings and protocol. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the encoder’s destination or streaming settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS for its documented RTMP/RTMPS workflow; its settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 among supported video codecs. Compatibility depends on the encoder and chosen configuration, so confirm its documentation and consult YouTube’s current encoder settings table before setting resolution, frame rate, bitrate, codec, and protocol.
There is no single bitrate that fits every stream. Use the recommendation for your selected resolution, frame rate, and codec rather than copying a generic value. YouTube supports software encoding and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events; a hardware purchase is not a universal prerequisite. Check the current settings guidance for the configuration you intend to send.

4. Test the complete feed before the event
- Send representative video motion and audio, then check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room.
- Verify that the watch page plays on the devices your audience is likely to use.
- Leave upload-bandwidth headroom: YouTube recommends available upload capacity 20% above the stream bitrate.
A test with a static image or no audio may not reveal problems that appear during the actual feed. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
5. Start the stream in the correct order
Start sending the feed from the encoder and follow the stream’s workflow in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, check the incoming preview and click Go live when ready. Some workflows go live when the encoder begins sending content, so confirm the behavior for the stream you created in YouTube’s setup instructions.

How to hand viewers to another event with Live Redirect
Live Redirect is for directing viewers after your stream ends. You can send them to a Premiere or, with the destination channel’s permission, to another channel’s live stream. The sending creator must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. Destination channels can configure who may redirect viewers to their content. YouTube’s Live Redirect guide explains the settings and eligibility.
- In YouTube Studio, edit the originating live video.
- Open Customization and add a redirect.
- Choose the destination. For another channel’s live stream, make sure that channel has granted permission.
- Set up the destination Premiere before the originating stream and tell viewers to expect a short pause while screens reload.
Redirecting is an audience handoff; it does not create a new broadcast of the original feed.

Plan for replay, DVR, and the archive
When DVR is enabled, viewers can pause and rewind during a live stream, then resume playback. They cannot seek back to a point before the stream began. YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Its encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If retaining the event matters, make a local recording as well and verify the archive after the stream. YouTube’s DVR help and encoder setup guide cover these limits.

Being able to send a feed technically does not establish that you have the right to rebroadcast it. Confirm that you have permission for the specific video, music, gameplay footage, or other live feed you plan to transmit, and check YouTube’s current copyright guidance. The setup instructions do not settle rights for any particular third-party content or the rules for simulcasting to other platforms.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Confirm that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current key, that it is sending to the stream you created, and that the channel is eligible for live streaming.
- The preview is unstable or stream health is poor: Compare the encoder’s bitrate and output settings with YouTube’s table for the selected resolution, frame rate, and codec. Check available upload capacity and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- The picture or sound looks wrong: Test with representative motion and audio, then verify the source, codec, resolution, frame rate, and audio configuration at both the encoder and Live Control Room preview.
- The scheduled event does not appear live: Check the incoming preview and the stream’s Live Control Room workflow; scheduled streams may require you to click Go live after the encoder begins sending.
- A redirect option or destination is unavailable: Check the sending channel’s subscriber and strike eligibility, and confirm permission if redirecting to another channel’s live stream.
- The archive is missing or viewers cannot rewind far enough: Check the stream duration and DVR behavior. For a recording you cannot afford to lose, keep a local copy and verify the archive after the event.
