To record in Streamlabs Talk Studio, open Settings with Shift+G, go to Output, and enable Cloud Recording, Local Recording, or both. Click Record for a recording without going live, or enable recording before you click Go Live to capture a broadcast. Download anything you want to keep from Account Settings → Broadcasts & Recordings.
Choose cloud or local recording
Talk Studio offers two recording outputs, suited to different editing and storage needs. The available combinations can depend on your plan and device, so check the current plan and the controls in your studio.
| Output | What you get | Requirements and considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud Recording | A complete recording, with an audio-only file available to download as well. | Find and download the recording from your account’s Broadcasts & Recordings area. See Streamlabs’ recording guide. |
| Local Recording | Separate audio and video tracks for each participant, which can be useful when editing guests individually. | Requires at least 5 GB of free computer space and is not supported on mobile devices. Streamlabs says changing audio or video settings during a live broadcast stops the current local recording and starts a new one. See its local-recording guide. |
Prepare your Talk Studio session
Streamlabs recommends using Google Chrome or Safari, a stable internet connection, and at least 5 Mbps upload. Its guidance lists these upload speeds by resolution; they are recommendations, not a guarantee that your connection will sustain a broadcast.
| Resolution | Required upload | Recommended upload |
|---|---|---|
| 720p | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p | 10 Mbps | 20 Mbps |
These figures come from Streamlabs’ Talk Studio getting-started guide, published in 2025. If recording locally, also make sure your computer has the required free disk space.

Check recording limits and save files promptly
Streamlabs’ plan information lists a maximum of 4 hours per track on Standard and 10 hours per track on Pro. It lists 720p for Standard and 1080p for Pro; Pro also lists 30-day recording storage. These plan details are volatile, so confirm the current limits on the Talk Studio plans page before a long session.

Streamlabs’ recording guide, last updated September 16, 2025, says the 15 most recent recordings are retained for 15 days on Standard and 30 days on Pro, after which older recordings are automatically deleted. Its older support article states the same retention periods, while the current plans page explicitly lists 30-day storage for Pro but does not show Standard storage in its available plan details. Check the current plan screen for Standard’s applicable storage terms, and download important recordings before they expire.
For an additional backup, Streamlabs recommends downloading recordings to an external hard drive. Choose capacity based on your recording length, quality, participant count, and how long you intend to archive; no single capacity suits every workflow. Streamlabs says deleted recordings cannot be retrieved after the retention period.

Troubleshoot common recording problems
- You cannot find a recording: Check the account icon → Account Settings → Broadcasts & Recordings. Confirm that recording was enabled before you started the session, and check the account’s current plan and retention terms.
- Local recording is unavailable on your phone or tablet: Local recording does not support mobile devices. Use a supported desktop device or choose cloud recording if it is available for your session.
- Local recording stops or splits after changing settings: Streamlabs warns that changing audio or video settings during a live broadcast stops the current local recording and starts a new one. Avoid mid-stream changes where possible, and check for separate resulting files afterward.
- Local recording will not start or complete: Confirm that at least 5 GB of computer storage is free, as required by Streamlabs’ local-recording guide.
- The live session is unstable: Check that the connection is stable and compare its upload speed with Streamlabs’ recommendations for your resolution. Meeting a listed speed does not guarantee performance on a particular network.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube channel live around the clock, Talk Studio’s session-recording workflow is different from a service designed to loop uploaded videos continuously. StreamNeo runs an always-on YouTube stream from the cloud, so nothing has to stay running at home. Upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It streams what you uploaded at its original quality up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
