A temporary queue will not survive closing the browser, and neither YouTube nor OBS documentation promises to restore the exact video, timestamp, or shuffle order after a full reboot. The right recovery steps depend on whether playback was in a browser, an OBS Browser Source, or a local-media playlist.
First identify how the playlist was playing
YouTube playback in a desktop browser, YouTube loaded in an OBS Browser Source, and media files played through OBS’s VLC Video source are separate setups. Check which one you were using before changing settings.
- Desktop browser: YouTube is open as a normal webpage outside OBS.
- OBS Browser Source: OBS loads a webpage from a URL. OBS’s Browser Source guide, dated January 11, 2022, describes it as a way to display web content in a scene: OBS Browser Source.
- OBS VLC Video: OBS plays a playlist of local media files. This is not YouTube-hosted playback, and OBS says VLC must be installed. See OBS VLC Video Source.
Recover a YouTube playlist in a desktop browser
- Open the saved playlist. Find it in your YouTube playlists and open a video that belongs to it. Do not rely on the temporary queue from before the reboot. YouTube Help says, “Your queue won’t save after you’ve closed your browser,” and recommends saving a queue as a playlist if you want to continue later: Queue videos on YouTube – Computer. If your rotation existed only as a queue, rebuild it and save it as a playlist.
- Expand the playlist panel. With a playlist video open, locate and expand the playlist box beside the video.
- Turn on Loop. Click the Loop control in the playlist box. YouTube’s computer instructions describe this control as repeating the playlist continuously: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
- Check what actually starts. Confirm that playback advances through the intended items and returns to the playlist’s beginning. Do not assume the previous playhead, video, or shuffle order has been restored.
Recover playback in OBS Browser Source
Open OBS and inspect the scene containing the Browser Source. Its settings include Shutdown source when not visible and Refresh browser source when scene becomes active. These options control page unloading or refreshing around scene visibility; OBS does not document them as a guarantee that a YouTube playlist resumes at the same item or position after a full PC reboot.
- Open the relevant scene and select its Browser Source.
- Review the source’s properties and note whether either shutdown or refresh option is enabled.
- Open the YouTube playlist page in that source. If it does not show the expected playlist, load the saved playlist again and restore Loop using the playlist controls.
- Test the setup by restarting OBS, then separately by restarting the PC if that is the failure you need to recover from. Check the first item, repeat behavior, and sequence.
YouTube’s player session, login, cookies, playback position, repeat, and shuffle state may depend on your configuration. The OBS settings described above do not establish that those states will persist.

If OBS was playing local files instead
Use this path only if your rotation consists of files on the computer rather than videos hosted on YouTube. OBS’s VLC Video source supports a media-file playlist with Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist; the documented defaults are On and Off, respectively. VLC must be installed. Consult the OBS VLC Video Source documentation for the source controls.
Those controls apply to local media. They do not recover YouTube playback or prove that a local-file playhead will return to its exact position after a reboot.

Test before relying on the rotation live
Once playback is restored, rehearse the failure in a controlled setting. Restart the relevant application, then the PC, and record which item starts, whether Loop remains active, and whether the intended order survives. This verifies your actual setup; it does not guarantee future recovery or prove that YouTube saves exact playback position.
