You may still be able to use the same YouTube stream key after deleting a scheduled broadcast: open YouTube Studio, go to Create > Go Live > Stream, and check the Stream key section. If the deleted event is no longer available to reuse, schedule a replacement through Manage. YouTube does not document a way to restore the deleted broadcast itself, so treat the event and the reusable key as separate things.
Find the key in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to the YouTube channel that owns or manages the stream.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the Stream tab and find Stream key. The key is hidden by default. If it is available, reveal and copy it into your encoder. YouTube describes a stream key as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
- If the existing key is unavailable or you want to replace it, select Reset beside the hidden key. A channel owner or manager must reset a key. Copy the replacement into the encoder, replacing any saved old value.
Enter the stream URL as the encoder’s server or destination and the stream key in its separate key field. YouTube’s encoder guide explains this setup and the scheduled-stream workflow: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Schedule a replacement broadcast
A deleted scheduled broadcast and its stream key are not the same object. YouTube documents how to reuse a key and how to create a new scheduled stream, but does not promise that a deleted broadcast can be restored. Check the key in the Stream tab first; then create a replacement event.
- In Live Control Room, open Manage.
- Choose to schedule a stream. If the prior stream is available, select Reuse settings to copy its metadata, settings, and stream key. Otherwise choose Create new and configure the replacement.
- Set the encoder destination and key. Start the encoder and wait for its preview in Live Control Room.
- When the preview is ready, click Go live for the scheduled event.
If the old stream does not appear as an option under Reuse settings, the documented fallback is to create a new stream, use an available key or reset one, and update the encoder. The outcome for a particular channel depends on what remains available in its Studio.

If the key is missing or the encoder will not start
- Check the channel: confirm you are signed in to the channel that owns or manages the broadcast. Being in another channel can show a different key and event list.
- Check your role: YouTube says a channel owner or manager can reset a stream key. Some delegated roles have restrictions on viewing or resetting keys. Review YouTube channel permissions if the key controls are unavailable.
- Replace the encoder’s saved key: after resetting, paste the newly generated key into the encoder’s key field; do not leave the old key configured.
- Verify the two encoder fields: the stream URL belongs in the server/destination field, and the key belongs in the separate stream-key field.
- If the encoder uses direct YouTube sign-in: YouTube advises contacting the software provider for support. For key-based encoder failures, its troubleshooting guidance says to retrieve the key from Live Control Room and update the encoder: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
