Check that it is an MP4 with H.264 video, bring its bitrate down to no more than 10 Mbps, and enable web optimization and Align A/V Start when re-encoding. A wired connection may help if the upload itself is unstable, but it will not repair an encoding problem in a video that has already uploaded.
First identify when the problem happens
Buffering during upload and lagging or freezing during the broadcast are different problems. A slow or interrupted upload can point to the creator’s connection. If the video uploaded successfully but stutters when it airs, focus first on the file’s format, bitrate, and encoding.
- Upload fails, stalls, or takes an unusually long time: check the local connection and the file’s size and duration against the limits for your StreamYard plan.
- The aired prerecorded video lags or freezes: check the source file and re-encode it before uploading again.
StreamYard’s help material describes the prerecorded symptom as lagging or freezing. Its FAQ asks, “Why is my pre-recorded stream lagging?” and recommends re-encoding with HandBrake.
Check the video against StreamYard’s upload guidance
StreamYard’s Help Center lists MP4 with H.264 video encoding for prerecorded uploads and a maximum bitrate of 10 Mbps. Its optimization guidance says that reducing a file above that bitrate may prevent lagging and freezing. Treat 10 Mbps as StreamYard’s stated prerecorded-upload ceiling, not as a universal YouTube bitrate recommendation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Container: MP4.
- Video encoding: H.264.
- Bitrate: no more than 10 Mbps for a prerecorded upload, according to StreamYard.
A video can be in a supported container and still have a bitrate above the stated maximum. Re-encoding can make a compatible file that fits the bitrate guidance; simply changing the filename extension does not convert the underlying video.
Re-encode the file with HandBrake
StreamYard points users with prerecorded-stream lag to HandBrake re-encoding. In HandBrake, use an MP4 output, enable the options named Align A/V Start and Web Optimized, and choose settings that keep the resulting video at or below StreamYard’s 10 Mbps maximum bitrate. HandBrake’s exact labels and layout can vary by version, so check the output summary before starting the encode.

- Keep an untouched copy. Re-encoding changes the file and may affect quality. Save the original so you can try different settings if the new version does not work.
- Open the source in HandBrake. Confirm that you selected the complete video, not a partial export.
- Choose MP4 as the output format. Use H.264 video encoding.
- Enable Web Optimized and Align A/V Start. These are the options StreamYard’s optimization guidance recommends for the re-encoded file.
- Set an appropriate bitrate. Keep the encoded output at or below 10 Mbps to meet StreamYard’s stated maximum for prerecorded uploads. A lower bitrate can reduce file size, but may reduce image quality; inspect the result before replacing your source.
- Encode and review the output. Play the new file from beginning to end, checking for audio/video sync, missing sections, and visible artifacts.
- Upload the re-encoded copy to StreamYard and test the prerecorded broadcast again.
For gaming footage, pay particular attention to fast motion, fine interface text, and dark scenes when reviewing a lower-bitrate encode. If the picture has become too soft or blocky, adjust the encode and review another output while staying within StreamYard’s stated cap.
Check upload connection and plan limits
If uploading is the problem
StreamYard recommends Ethernet when possible for connection consistency. It says Wi-Fi works in most cases but may cause issues. A wired connection is a reasonable step when the upload is unreliable; it is not evidence that the already-uploaded video’s playback will improve. StreamYard’s general live-stream article recommends at least 5 Mbps upload speed, with 7 Mbps or higher preferred, for live broadcasts. Those figures concern live-streaming connection guidance, not the bitrate of a prerecorded video file.

Confirm size and duration for your plan
StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream help page lists these limits. Plan names and limits can change, so verify the current limit in StreamYard before relying on a file near the boundary.
| StreamYard plan | Upload limit listed | Prerecorded video duration listed |
|---|---|---|
| Core | 10 GB | 2 hours |
| Advanced | 10 GB | 4 hours |
| Teams | 25 GB | 8 hours |
| Business | 25 GB | 8 hours |
A file over the applicable size or duration limit may fail to upload or be unavailable for your intended broadcast. These plan limits are separate from the 10 Mbps bitrate guidance.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The upload stalls or fails before the broadcast | Connection consistency, file size, or plan duration limit | Try Ethernet if practical, then check the file against your plan’s current upload and duration limits. |
| The video plays, but lags or freezes during the prerecorded broadcast | Source-file encoding or bitrate | Re-encode with HandBrake using MP4, H.264, Web Optimized, Align A/V Start, and an output bitrate no higher than StreamYard’s stated 10 Mbps maximum. |
| The broadcast looks worse after re-encoding | Encoding settings may have reduced image quality too far | Review the output before uploading; try a different encode that preserves more detail while staying within the bitrate cap. |
| The video or audio seems out of sync | Audio/video alignment in the output file | Enable Align A/V Start when re-encoding, then review the full output before uploading. |
Keep rights and monetization separate from playback quality
Fixing a bitrate or encoding problem does not give you permission to use the footage, music, or other material in the video. For a gaming broadcast, make sure you have the rights needed for the game footage and any soundtrack or other third-party content. Likewise, converting a video to a live broadcast does not by itself establish that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization requirements. Check the applicable YouTube rules for your content and channel rather than treating technical playback success as approval.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep an uploaded video looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream rather than troubleshoot a StreamYard scheduled broadcast, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays the upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos on YouTube, not a camera feed, and it does not fix an incompatible file inside StreamYard. Start your free StreamNeo day.
