To use less mobile data uploading a pre-recorded MP4 to YouTube, re-export it with H.264 video at a lower bitrate; if needed, lower its resolution from 1080p to 720p. Keep the original frame rate. YouTube’s SDR upload references for standard frame rates are 8 Mbps at 1080p and 5 Mbps at 720p—not guaranteed file-size or quality outcomes. On Android, allow mobile uploads in YouTube’s settings before you start.
Reduce the file without changing the wrong setting
MP4 is a container format; H.264 is the video codec YouTube recommends for compressing a file while maintaining quality. YouTube’s Help page puts it this way: “Use the H.264 codec to compress your video file size while maintaining the video quality for YouTube.” The actual result depends on the footage and encoding, so check the exported file rather than assuming a setting guarantees a particular size.
- Check the source. Note the video’s duration, resolution, and frame rate before exporting.
- Export as MP4 with H.264 video. Start with the bitrate reference for your resolution and frame-rate class in the table below.
- Lower the bitrate if the file is still too large. This reduces video data, but can also reduce visible detail, especially in fast-moving or complex scenes.
- If necessary, export at a lower resolution. Moving from 1080p to 720p can save more data, but produces a smaller image with less detail.
- Keep the recorded frame rate. YouTube recommends encoding and uploading at the rate the video was recorded. Don’t routinely lower frame rate as a compression shortcut.
- Export, then check the resulting file size. If it is still beyond your available data allowance, adjust the bitrate or resolution and export again.
Choose a bitrate for your resolution and frame rate
YouTube’s recommendations below are for SDR uploads. Standard and high frame rates have different reference values, so use the row that matches your footage rather than treating the rates as interchangeable.
| Resolution | Standard frame rate | High frame rate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p SDR | 8 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 720p SDR | 5 Mbps | 7.5 Mbps |
| 480p SDR | 2.5 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
These are YouTube upload recommendations, not file-size guarantees or promises that the exported picture will look a certain way. HDR has different recommendations; check YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings if you are exporting HDR rather than SDR.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Audio and total file size
YouTube lists AAC-LC as a supported audio option and recommends 384 kbps for stereo. In a typical video, video data accounts for most of the file size, so changing audio settings alone is unlikely to deliver the main reduction.
A rough estimate of data volume is bitrate multiplied by duration. It is only an estimate: the final file size also depends on audio and encoding behavior. The amount counted by an Indian mobile operator may not exactly match the displayed file size; YouTube’s guidance does not establish carrier billing practices.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Allow YouTube uploads over mobile data on Android
In the YouTube Android app, tap profile picture → Settings → General → Uploads, then choose the mobile-network option. You can also choose Wi-Fi if you want to avoid using your mobile data. The upload screen lets you select an existing video file.
These steps describe YouTube’s Android app. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish Indian carrier prices or data allowances, so check your own plan before uploading a large file.

Fix an upload that fails or gets interrupted
- The export is rejected or has a video issue: Check the export settings, correct them, and upload the file again. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance is at Troubleshoot audio or video issues with uploads on YouTube.
- The file is too large for your remaining data: Re-export at a lower bitrate, or reduce resolution if you can accept the loss of detail. Check the new file size before retrying.
- YouTube is not uploading over mobile data: Recheck the Android path above and confirm that mobile network is selected for uploads.
YouTube’s Android help page states a maximum upload size of 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less. That is a platform limit, not a sensible target for a mobile-data upload. See YouTube’s guidance on uploading videos longer than 15 minutes.
Pre-recorded uploads and live streams use different settings
This workflow is for uploading a finished MP4. If by “stream” you mean a live broadcast from an encoder, YouTube has separate live-ingestion settings and bitrate guidance; the upload recommendations above are not live encoder settings. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI is available; card checkout is available worldwide.
