What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To remove or challenge a Content ID claim on an archived YouTube livestream, open YouTube Studio, find the replay under Content → Videos, inspect the claim, then either dispute it on a valid rights-based ground or remove the matched material with Studio’s editing tools. The claimant reviews a dispute; YouTube does not decide who owns the content. A live interruption is a separate issue from a claim on an archived replay.
First, tell a live interruption from a replay claim
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. A live warning, interruption, or termination is not the same procedure as a Content ID claim on the archived video. YouTube says Content ID claims on livestreams are made after the stream ends, if the creator chooses to archive it. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
If the broadcast was interrupted, check the YouTube Studio dashboard for strikes and any listed live-stream restrictions. If you had a license for the material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube notes that a license by itself may not prevent a live interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.
Review the claim on the archived livestream
- Open YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Choose the Videos tab and locate the archived livestream.
- In the Restrictions column, open the claim details. Check which content is identified and the timestamps involved.
- Under Content used, select Take action. If you have a defensible basis to challenge the match, choose Dispute and complete the form accurately.
These are the current desktop-help labels; available actions can vary by device and by claim. See YouTube Help: Dispute a Content ID claim.

Choose the right response before disputing
Dispute only if you believe the claim is wrong or you have the necessary rights, a relevant copyright exception, or another valid basis such as misidentification. Giving credit, owning a copy of a song or video, or choosing not to monetize does not by itself establish a valid reason to dispute.
YouTube says automated systems cannot decide fair use: it is a subjective, case-specific question that only courts can determine. Do not treat a fair-use argument as guaranteed protection from a rejected dispute or later legal action. YouTube Help: Fair use on YouTube

- The match appears mistaken, or you control the required rights: submit an accurate dispute and retain records supporting your position.
- The material is present and you do not have a sound basis to challenge the claim: check whether Studio offers an edit that removes it.
- The claim blocks the video: an appeal may be available, but consider the added risk before escalating.
- The claim tracks or monetizes rather than blocks: weigh whether preserving the matched segment is worth pursuing a dispute. The best route depends on the claim’s effect and your rights basis.
What happens after you dispute
The claimant, not YouTube, reviews the initial dispute. The claimant has 30 days to respond. It may release the claim, reinstate it, submit a copyright removal request, or let it expire by not responding in time. If the claim is reinstated, you may be eligible to appeal. YouTube’s stated process is described in its dispute guidance.
An appeal has a seven-day response period. The option called Escalate to Appeal is offered only for blocking claims and skips the initial dispute stage. It may resolve a blocking claim sooner, but if the claimant rejects the appeal, they can submit a copyright removal request. If that request is valid, YouTube may remove the video and apply a copyright strike. Do not use an appeal simply for speed; use it only when you are confident in your rights basis. See YouTube Help: Appeal a Content ID claim.

Remove matched material instead of disputing
If the claimed audio or video is actually in the replay and you do not intend to challenge the claim, return to the claim details and check for the available editing options. Depending on the claim and video, Studio may offer:
- Erase song or mute: remove or mute the claimed music.
- Trim out segment: cut the matched portion from the video.
- Replace song: substitute different music where the option is available.
YouTube says the claim is automatically removed if the claimed content is successfully removed. Tool availability and results can vary, so verify the claim status after the edit rather than assuming a saved change cleared it. Details: YouTube Help: Remove claimed content from videos.

How a claim affects revenue and when it is reported
According to YouTube’s monetization guidance, disputing within five days of the claim causes revenue to be held starting from the claim date. If you dispute after five days, the hold starts on the date you dispute. Held earnings go to the appropriate party after resolution. These are YouTube’s stated procedures, not a guaranteed payment date. Revenue data may not appear in Analytics while the claim is active; after a claim is released, YouTube says the data is generally added between the 10th and 20th of a later month. See YouTube Help: Monetization during Content ID disputes.
Common problems and what to check
- You cannot find the claim on the live dashboard: check the archived replay under Content → Videos; the Content ID claim process for an archived livestream takes place after the broadcast.
- There is no Dispute option: reopen the claim details and inspect the offered actions. Options vary by claim and device; do not assume every claim can be disputed through the same controls.
- You have a license but the broadcast was interrupted: contact the rights owner about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist, then check Studio for any listed restrictions or strikes.
- An edit did not clear the claim: verify that the matched content was successfully removed and check the claim status again. YouTube says successful removal clears the claim, but an unsuccessful or incomplete edit may not.
- The claimant rejected your dispute: review whether an appeal is available and assess the blocking status and removal-request risk before proceeding.
