First check where the playlist is managed: Castr TV Playout, a standard Castr playlist, or YouTube itself. In Castr TV Playout, you can edit upcoming items while it runs, but Castr says not to replace or move the item marked LIVE. To change that item, disable the playout, make the edit, and click Set Schedule to apply the schedule again. A standard Castr playlist’s documented guide does not explain replacing an existing item during playback.
Identify which playlist you are editing
“Castr YouTube playlist” can refer to different workflows. Castr TV Playout is a scheduled broadcast managed in Castr and routed to a Castr livestream destination, which may be connected to YouTube. A standard Castr playlist is a separate Castr feature. A native YouTube playlist is managed on YouTube. The right replacement procedure depends on which interface contains the item.
- Castr TV Playout: Look for a scheduled channel broadcast and an item marked LIVE.
- Standard Castr playlist: Look for a playlist of content items in the Castr dashboard, with playback settings such as autoplay, loop, or shuffle.
- YouTube playlist: Look for the playlist in YouTube’s own interface, where you manage its video entries and order.
Replace an item in Castr TV Playout
Castr’s TV Playout instructions distinguish the item currently on air from the rest of the schedule. Do not replace or move the item marked LIVE while the playout is running. If that live item must change, stop the playout before editing.
Change an upcoming item while the playout runs
- Open the TV Playout schedule in Castr and identify the item you want to change.
- Confirm it is upcoming, not the item marked LIVE.
- Replace or move the upcoming content in the schedule.
- Click Set Schedule to apply the revised timetable.
Change the item marked LIVE
- Disable the TV Playout before editing the currently playing item.
- Replace or move the content in the schedule.
- Click Set Schedule again to apply the updated timetable.
Castr documents disabling the playout first when live content must change. The help page does not establish how viewers experience the interruption or transition, so plan for the broadcast to be affected while the playout is disabled.

Replace an item in a standard Castr playlist
Castr’s standard playlist guide describes adding livestream or VOD content and configuring autoplay, loop, and shuffle. It does not document a procedure for replacing an existing entry while the playlist is playing. Because that specific operation is not covered, do not assume a particular button or that changing an item is safe during playback. Check the current dashboard or ask Castr support for the steps that apply to your account and interface.
Change a video in a native YouTube playlist
If the list is managed directly in YouTube rather than Castr, YouTube’s desktop instructions cover removing a video and reordering playlist entries; they do not describe an in-place replace command. Use removal and addition as separate actions, then check the resulting order.

- Open the playlist in YouTube and locate the old video.
- Open that entry’s More menu and remove it from the playlist.
- Add the intended video to the playlist.
- Verify its position. YouTube documents dragging an item to reorder the playlist.
This edits the YouTube playlist, not a Castr TV Playout schedule. If the playlist is being used as a source for a separate scheduled broadcast, verify the Castr schedule independently.
