Azure Media Services retired on June 30, 2024, so it cannot host a new always-on YouTube playlist stream. For a prerecorded playlist, choose either an encoder you operate or a hosted continuous-stream service. If you were using Azure Media Services for a broader media workflow—such as encoding, delivery, or content protection—you will need to assess partner solutions against those specific requirements; a playlist-streaming service is not automatically a like-for-like replacement.
First, identify what you are replacing
Microsoft lists June 30, 2024 as Azure Media Services’ retirement date in its 2024 lifecycle listing. The right alternative depends on whether you need only to keep prerecorded videos streaming on YouTube or must replace a larger media platform.
- YouTube playlist only: use an encoder on a computer or standalone hardware, or select a hosted service intended for continuous streaming.
- Broader media workflow: inventory the Azure Media Services capabilities you used, then assess media partners for those requirements. Microsoft’s migration guidance distinguishes media workflows from other services; its June 20, 2024 Q&A response points customers needing encoding, live streaming, on-demand streaming, or content protection toward partner solutions.
There is no evidence-backed universal replacement or head-to-head ranking for every Azure Media Services workload. Choose based on what your channel and media pipeline actually require.
Choose a route for the YouTube stream
| Route | What it does | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo — hosted YouTube stream | Uploads prerecorded videos to a cloud service that loops them on YouTube without a computer running at home. It supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with a free first day. | Confirm the slot and storage you need. Each slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots. |
| Self-hosted encoder | YouTube supports software encoders running on a computer and standalone encoder hardware. YouTube describes an encoder as the component that converts video into a digital format for streaming. | You operate the host, internet connection, encoder process, and recovery if something stops. The cited YouTube guidance does not quantify the cost or reliability trade-offs. |
| Other hosted continuous-stream service | YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams and Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live streaming. | The directory does not compare current prices, plan limits, supported formats, or recovery behavior. Verify those details with the provider. |
StreamNeo is a creator-focused option for a YouTube playlist, not a replacement for every Azure Media Services capability. Its service keeps uploaded videos looping on YouTube; it does not stream from a camera or send streams to other platforms. See StreamNeo for current service details.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up a self-hosted YouTube encoder
This route gives you control of the computer or hardware running the stream, but that equipment and its internet connection must remain available for the stream to continue. YouTube’s encoder workflow applies whether the encoder is software on a computer or standalone hardware.
- Enable live streaming on the YouTube channel. Follow YouTube’s current channel workflow. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours; after activation, a stream can go live instantly.
- Choose and configure an encoder. Select software for a computer or a standalone hardware encoder. Set it up to send your prerecorded video or playlist as a live stream. The YouTube guidance cited here does not prescribe a particular encoder, bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval, so follow the encoder’s documentation and YouTube’s current on-screen requirements rather than assuming one setting fits every source.
- Connect to YouTube. In the encoder, enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s live-stream setup. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Start the stream and confirm it in YouTube. Check that the encoder is sending video and that the YouTube live control room shows the expected preview and stream status before relying on it as an always-on broadcast.
- Plan for interruptions. Decide who or what will restart the encoder, computer, or network connection if the process stops. Continuous streaming depends on the equipment and connection you operate; YouTube’s encoder page does not establish a recovery guarantee.
Check rights and YouTube policy before looping videos
Use videos you have the rights to stream, including any music, footage, or other material embedded in them. A live format does not remove copyright obligations. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming and monetization policies for your channel and content, and obtain permission where needed. Reusing existing footage is not, by itself, proof that a channel qualifies for monetization; assess whether your uploads meet YouTube’s current reused-content rules. StreamNeo provides a copyright safety checklist to help you review permissions before streaming.

Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.

When the job is bigger than a playlist
If your Azure setup also handled encoding pipelines, on-demand delivery, or content protection, map each required capability before choosing a replacement. Microsoft’s Q&A response names Bitmovin, MediaKind, and Ravnur as notable partners for broader media workflows, but it does not rank them or establish which product fits a particular workload. Verify current availability, features, security needs, geographic coverage, and migration requirements directly with each provider.

AWS also documents a live video delivery architecture built with AWS Media Services and CloudFront in its Live Streaming on AWS implementation guide. That is an architecture reference, not evidence of a turnkey creator service for looping a YouTube playlist. A custom cloud build may be appropriate for a broader delivery system, but it should not be confused with a hosted playlist tool.
Troubleshoot the common setup failures
- You cannot start a live stream: if this is the channel’s first activation, YouTube says enablement may take up to 24 hours. Wait for activation, then retry.
- The encoder connects but YouTube receives no stream: check that the configured server URL and stream key match the values in YouTube’s live setup. Replace an exposed or outdated key and update the encoder.
- The stream stops when you leave: a self-hosted encoder relies on the computer or hardware and network you operate. Check whether the device slept, lost power, lost internet, or stopped running the encoder; configure appropriate power and process supervision for your setup.
- A hosted provider disconnects or cannot play a file: consult that provider for supported formats, limits, and restart behavior. YouTube’s directory does not establish those product-specific details.
- Your migration needs more than a YouTube feed: revisit the capability inventory and assess partner solutions for each workflow instead of expecting a playlist service to replace the full media platform.
Estimate the self-hosted operating burden
A computer-based encoder means you provide the always-available computer, network connection, and operational attention; a mini PC is one possible computer form factor, not a requirement established by YouTube. To compare a home setup with a cloud service using your own electricity, hardware, and connectivity figures, use StreamNeo’s cloud vs PC cost calculator. For a hosted plan, verify current limits and recovery terms directly before committing; the cited YouTube directory does not supply those terms.
