Most Razer mice do not have one universal factory-reset button or key combination. The right reset depends on your model and the problem: incorrect DPI or buttons usually requires a profile reset, erratic tracking may require Surface Calibration, and wireless failures need a connection reset rather than a settings reset.
Use the steps below to identify the safest fix for your DeathAdder, Viper, Basilisk, Naga, Orochi, Cobra, Pro Click, or other Razer mouse.
1. Identify the exact Razer mouse first
Find the model name and model number on the mouse, its packaging, Synapse, or the Razer gaming-mouse support catalog. The exact revision matters: different DeathAdder, Viper, Basilisk, Orochi, and Naga models can use different firmware, pairing procedures, memory features, and Synapse support.

Check which software it uses. As of February 3, 2026, Razer Synapse 3 no longer receives updates or cloud-service support. Existing installations may still configure supported devices, but Razer says that users who completely uninstall Synapse 3 must move to Synapse 4 for continued customization. Synapse 4 supports 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 according to Razer’s current support FAQ.

2. Save your settings before resetting
Record or export your important profiles before proceeding. Save your DPI stages, button assignments, macros, lighting effects, polling rate, and any game-specific profiles. Screenshots are useful if profile export is unavailable.
Connect a wireless mouse by cable while configuring it where supported. Plug it directly into the computer rather than a USB hub, keep the receiver close and unobstructed, and close games or applications that may be applying custom profiles. Never disconnect the mouse, switch it off, or allow the computer to sleep during a firmware update.
3. Try a basic power or connection reset
Wired Razer mouse
- Save your work and close games.
- Unplug the mouse and wait several seconds.
- Connect it directly to a different USB port, without a hub.
- Test cursor movement before opening Synapse.
- If possible, test it on another computer.
Wireless mouse with a USB receiver
- Turn the mouse off.
- Disconnect and reconnect the receiver directly to the computer.
- Move the receiver to a position with a clear line of sight to the mouse.
- Charge the mouse or replace its battery if applicable.
- Turn the mouse on and test it.
- If it remains disconnected, use the pairing utility or instructions for that exact model.
Razer recommends direct computer connections, clear receiver placement, and testing another system in its mouse troubleshooting guidance.
Bluetooth mouse
- In Windows, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
- Remove the Razer mouse from the list of paired devices.
- Switch the mouse off and on.
- Put it into pairing mode using the procedure in its model guide.
- Add it again in Windows and test it before opening Synapse.
Do not use a universal Bluetooth button combination: pairing controls vary by model.
4. Factory-reset settings through Synapse 3
For a device that is detected and supported by an existing Synapse 3 installation:

- Open Razer Synapse 3.
- Open the application’s Settings window.
- Select the Reset tab.
- Choose the connected Razer device.
- Confirm the reset.
- Reopen the device page and check the default assignments, DPI, lighting, and profiles.
Razer’s Synapse 3 guide explains that the Reset tab can factory-reset connected devices with onboard memory. Profiles stored in onboard memory are erased. On a device without onboard memory, the reset creates a new default Synapse profile rather than erasing hardware-stored profiles. This behavior is documented in Razer’s Synapse 3 master guide.
There is an important distinction between onboard DPI storage and full onboard profile memory. For example, the original Razer Viper, model RZ01-02550, has no onboard memory but stores up to five DPI stages onboard. That information does not apply automatically to every Viper variant or Razer mouse; check the exact model’s support page.

Use calibration for inconsistent tracking, skipping, or cursor movement that changes when you lift and replace the mouse. Calibration is not a full factory reset: it changes sensor-surface behavior, not necessarily button mappings, DPI, lighting, or macros.
Synapse 4
- Open Razer Synapse 4.
- Select the mouse.
- Click Calibration.
- Choose Add a Surface.
- Select the correct Razer mouse mat when applicable, or use the custom-surface option.
- Click Add and adjust Lift-Off Range if the mouse provides that control.
- Save the calibration if prompted, then test tracking.
Razer notes that calibration controls differ by device. See its Surface Calibration instructions for the supported interface.
Synapse 3
- Select the mouse and open Calibration.
- Choose Add a Surface.
- For a supported Razer mat, select the mat and choose Calibrate.
- For another surface, choose Custom and then Start.
- Click the left mouse button and move the mouse as directed.
- Click the left button again to finish and confirm that the profile is saved.
6. Restore defaults manually in Synapse 4
Razer’s current documentation does not establish one universal Synapse 4 factory-reset menu for every mouse. If Synapse 4 displays a reset or default-profile control for your connected model, use that model-specific control. If it does not, restore the settings manually:

- Return button assignments to their standard functions.
- Remove or recreate custom profiles.
- Set a normal DPI stage or restore the value you recorded.
- Open Performance and restore the polling rate where available.
- Disable or recreate custom macros.
- Restore a default lighting effect or turn lighting off.
- Remove custom surface profiles and create a new calibration profile.
Paths and available controls differ by model. Razer’s support page for the original Viper, for example, documents DPI-stage and polling-rate controls under the mouse’s performance settings: Razer Viper RZ01-02550 support.

7. If Synapse does not detect the mouse
A profile reset cannot help if Windows or Synapse cannot see the device. Work through these checks:
- Test basic movement with Synapse completely closed.
- Use a direct USB port rather than a hub or dock.
- Try another USB port, cable, receiver port, or battery.
- For wireless models, keep the receiver close to the mouse.
- Test the mouse on another computer.
- Check the exact model’s support page for compatible Synapse versions and firmware.
- Exit all Razer Synapse processes and test again.
- Perform Razer’s clean Synapse reinstall if the hardware works but the software does not.
- In Windows Device Manager, uninstall the mouse device and allow Windows to detect and reinstall it.
Do not repeatedly reinstall software at random. First establish whether the fault follows the mouse to another computer. Razer’s troubleshooting guidance separates connection, software, and hardware checks for this reason.
8. Firmware, drivers, and wireless pairing are separate fixes
A firmware update can address a device-level issue, but it is not a settings reset and is only available for some models. Check Razer’s support page using the exact model number before downloading anything. Keep the mouse connected, charged, and awake during the update; interruption can leave the device unusable.
Likewise, re-pairing a receiver or Bluetooth connection does not restore DPI, macros, or lighting profiles. Pairing should follow the official procedure for that particular mouse. A driver reinstall repairs the Windows device path, while a Synapse reinstall addresses corrupted configuration software. None of these steps should be treated as interchangeable.

9. Clean the sensor and test the surface
For tracking problems, turn the mouse over and remove dust from the sensor area with a handheld blower or compressed air. Do not put liquid on the sensor. Test on a clean, plain, non-glossy surface; rough, shiny, glossy, and glass-like surfaces can cause tracking problems. Then redo Surface Calibration if the model supports it.
Razer’s tracking troubleshooting guide treats cleaning, surface choice, calibration, direct connection, firmware, Synapse, and another-computer testing as separate remedies.
10. When a reset will not fix the mouse
Stop treating the problem as a software reset if the mouse still fails across different ports and computers. A reset cannot repair:
- worn or double-clicking switches;
- a damaged scroll-wheel encoder;
- a broken cable;
- a failing battery;
- a defective wireless receiver;
- physical sensor or liquid damage;
- a faulty USB port or computer;
- a game-specific input conflict.
Contact Razer Support with the exact model number, operating system, connection type, symptoms, and results from another-port and another-computer tests. Those details help distinguish a repair or warranty case from a configuration problem.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will resetting a Razer mouse erase DPI and macros?
It can. A reset targeting onboard memory may erase stored DPI stages, macros, button assignments, and lighting profiles. Save or photograph your settings first.

Can I reset a Razer mouse without Synapse?
You can power-cycle it, reconnect its receiver or Bluetooth pairing, and test it on another computer without Synapse. A full profile reset may require Synapse or a model-specific procedure.
Does resetting fix double-clicking?
No. Double-clicking is commonly a switch or hardware problem, so resetting profiles or calibration will not repair it.
Can I reset a mouse that is not detected?
Not usually through software. Test a direct port, another cable or receiver, battery status, and another computer first.
Can I use Synapse 4 with an older Razer mouse?
Only if Razer lists that exact model as supported. Older mice may require an existing Synapse 3 installation or another model-specific solution.
