To bring a PC-based ambient stream back after a power cut, every link in the recovery chain must work: the PC must power on when electricity returns, Windows must launch OBS, OBS must start streaming, and the network must be ready. Configure and test each part separately. A UPS can help bridge a short outage, but it cannot guarantee a stream will survive a longer cut after its battery runs down.
Set the PC to power on when electricity returns
A PC that remains off after power is restored cannot launch OBS or resume a stream. Check whether its motherboard supports an AC power restoration setting, often named something like “Restore AC Power Loss.” ASUS describes this function as restoring system operation and powering on automatically when power reconnects after a failure: ASUS ROG India Support: Restore AC Power Loss function.
- Find the system or motherboard documentation for power restoration after AC loss. The exact menu name, location, and availability vary by model.
- In BIOS or UEFI, enable the setting that powers the system on after AC power returns. Check the documentation for the correct option and save the change.
- Test it safely: shut down the PC, disconnect its power, reconnect it, and confirm that it starts. Do not assume the setting works until you have checked the behavior on your own hardware.
This setting handles only the computer’s response to returning power. It does not launch OBS, establish a network connection, or start a YouTube broadcast.
Launch OBS and request streaming in Windows
An OBS Project community discussion suggests adding --startstreaming to an OBS shortcut and placing that shortcut in the Windows Startup folder, or using Task Scheduler. This is community guidance, not an official guarantee that OBS will reconnect successfully on every PC: OBS Project community forum: Autostart after e.g. Reboot.

- First confirm that OBS opens correctly and that the intended scene, media, and YouTube stream configuration are saved.
- Create a shortcut to the OBS executable and add
--startstreamingto its target, following Windows shortcut syntax for your installation. Alternatively, configure a scheduled task to launch OBS at sign-in or startup with the same argument. - Place the shortcut in the Windows Startup folder if using that approach, then restart the PC normally and check whether OBS opens and begins sending the stream.
- Check the resulting broadcast rather than relying only on OBS appearing on screen: confirm that YouTube receives the encoder and that the public stream is live.
Test automatic startup with a private or unlisted broadcast first, if appropriate for your channel, so you can verify the sequence without unexpectedly starting a public stream.
Make sure YouTube permits the encoder to start the broadcast
YouTube’s live-stream settings include auto-start and auto-stop controls that allow a broadcast to be started or stopped from the encoder. YouTube also says Reuse settings copies these choices. Check the settings for the specific broadcast or reused setup you intend OBS to start: YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.

Auto-start governs whether the encoder can start the broadcast; it does not switch on the PC, open OBS, or make the network available. Treat it as one part of the chain, not as an end-to-end recovery setting.
Account for network startup delays
After a power cut, the PC may boot before the router or other network equipment is ready. The OBS community discussion notes that an early connection attempt can fail and that automatic reconnect may not recover in every case. Consider delaying OBS startup or using a retry or network-availability check, then verify the behavior under your own startup order: OBS Project community forum: Autostart after e.g. Reboot.

A single startup shortcut is not proof of reliable recovery. Test the full sequence with the PC, router, and any required network equipment powered back on, and check both the encoder connection and YouTube’s live status.
Use a UPS for short interruptions, not as a guarantee
A UPS can keep the PC and network equipment running through some brief outages, but whether it can do so depends on the connected load and the runtime available at that load. In a community discussion about 24/7 streaming, one participant mentioned using an APC battery backup, while the original poster described cuts long enough to exhaust a UPS. When choosing a UPS, compare its supported output and runtime at your actual connected load, battery replacement and service options, and whether it can power both the PC and network equipment. Size it for the equipment and duration you need; no particular India-available model or runtime is established here.

Once configured, test the dependencies together rather than treating any single setting as sufficient. Verify that power restoration starts the PC, Windows launches OBS, OBS connects after the network is ready, and YouTube shows the expected live status. Repeat after any relevant change to BIOS or UEFI settings, OBS startup configuration, stream settings, or network equipment. The sources do not establish a universal recovery time, so judge success by the behavior of your own setup.
