Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo recover a church livestream after a power cut, the streaming PC must turn back on, OBS must open and reconnect, the network must be ready, and YouTube must accept the returning encoder feed. Configure and test each part; restarting OBS alone does not guarantee that the public broadcast or camera sources have recovered.
What has to recover
A church stream is a chain of separate systems: power, the streaming computer or encoder, the router and modem, OBS, the YouTube broadcast, and the cameras, capture devices, and audio path. A failure in any one of these can leave the stream offline or showing the wrong content even if the other parts restart.
- Power: Which devices lost power, and do they turn back on when electricity returns?
- Computer and OBS: Does the PC boot, and does OBS launch and begin streaming without someone signing in?
- Network: Is internet service back before OBS tries to connect, or will OBS retry if it is not?
- YouTube: Is the encoder feeding the intended stream, and is the broadcast configured to go live?
- Production sources: Have the camera picture, capture devices, and audio returned?
YouTube’s encoder workflow requires the encoder to send a feed using the stream URL and stream key. Starting that feed and making a broadcast live are related actions, but they are not always the same action. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the connection process.
Prepare power and device startup
Consider which equipment needs backup power
List the devices that need to operate for a usable broadcast: the streaming PC, router, modem, cameras, capture hardware, and audio equipment. A UPS may keep some connected equipment running during a short outage, but its usefulness depends on the connected load and the runtime required. It cannot restore an internet service that is down, configure Windows or OBS to restart, change YouTube’s broadcast state, or fix a camera source that fails to return. The available sources do not establish a particular UPS model or capacity, so size any unit for the actual equipment and runtime you need.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check whether the PC restarts after power returns
Some PCs require a firmware setting to power on after an outage; the available evidence does not establish universal BIOS or UEFI menu names or steps. Check the documentation for the specific PC or motherboard rather than assuming it will boot automatically. Test the behavior with the church’s equipment under supervision.
Configure Windows and OBS to start the stream
An OBS forum discussion posted March 21, 2024, describes adding --startstreaming to an OBS shortcut and using the Windows Startup folder or Task Scheduler. The responder recommends Task Scheduler for power-outage recovery and warns that the PC and OBS may start before the network is ready. This is community advice, not a guarantee for every OBS or Windows version. Verify the option and behavior on the installed versions before relying on it. Read the OBS forum discussion.

- Confirm the PC’s boot behavior. Make sure it actually starts after power is restored, using the documentation for that machine if a firmware setting is needed.
- Choose an OBS launch method. The forum discussion describes a shortcut with
--startstreamingand Windows Startup or Task Scheduler. Set up the chosen method on the church’s PC and confirm that OBS launches as intended. - Account for network startup. The modem or router may take longer to recover than the PC. If OBS tries to connect too early, configure an appropriate delay or retry approach and test it with the real network. The cited forum discussion does not establish a universally reliable script or delay value.
- Observe a full restart test. Confirm that OBS opens, sends the encoder feed, and remains connected after the network becomes available.
Set up YouTube’s encoder and broadcast behavior
In YouTube’s Live Control Room, check the stream settings and the broadcast the church intends to use. YouTube provides auto-start and auto-stop settings for encoder streams, but scheduled broadcasts may still require clicking Go live after the preview appears. The exact action depends on the stream and broadcast workflow. Review YouTube’s live stream settings and encoder setup instructions.
- Confirm the selected stream and broadcast are the intended ones.
- Check the stream URL, stream key, and auto-start setting for the workflow in use.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not publish screenshots or share documents that expose it.
- Know whether the scheduled broadcast requires a person to select Go live after the encoder preview returns.
Do not assume that OBS starting or reconnecting can override every YouTube Live Control Room state. Verify the actual broadcast behavior in a test.

Test that viewers see the recovered broadcast
After a controlled reboot or real outage, check both the encoder and YouTube. OBS’s connection status is not proof that the public broadcast has recovered: forum reports describe cases where reconnecting did not resolve a YouTube-side disconnect. A separate report describes a camera source that did not recover simply because the stream restarted. These reports are troubleshooting examples, not evidence of how often failures occur. OBS auto-reconnect discussion · Internet outage discussion · Network or camera power failure discussion.
- Check OBS for a live encoder connection and inspect the program preview.
- Check Live Control Room for the expected stream preview and broadcast state.
- Open the public watch page, where practical, and confirm the intended broadcast is visible to viewers.
- Inspect each camera and capture input, then verify microphones and audio routing independently.
Run the test outside a service. If the risk includes a delayed router or interrupted internet, test that failure too, under supervision. Do not treat a setup as automatic until the whole chain works with the church’s own equipment and settings.

Troubleshoot a stream that does not return
| What you see | What to check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| The PC remains off after power returns | Whether the specific computer is configured to start after an outage; universal firmware steps are not established here. | Consult the PC or motherboard documentation and test a supervised restart. |
| OBS does not open | The Windows startup method, scheduled task, and whether OBS launches under the account and conditions configured. | Test the configured launch method directly, then repeat a full reboot test. |
| OBS opens but does not connect | Whether the modem and router have regained internet before OBS attempts to stream; confirm the selected stream destination and key. | Test a suitable delay or retry approach on the actual network. No fixed delay is established for every site. |
| OBS reconnects, but YouTube is not live | The selected broadcast, Live Control Room preview, auto-start setting, and whether the scheduled workflow needs a manual Go live action. | Use Live Control Room to verify the public broadcast state rather than relying on OBS status alone. |
| The stream is live but picture or sound is missing | Camera, capture, microphone, and audio routing status in OBS; these sources can fail independently of the encoder connection. | Check each input and the program preview, then confirm the result on the public watch page. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded church stream that should keep looping on YouTube, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a home computer staying on, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card; the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it is not a camera-based broadcast. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
