Short answer: YouTube’s Auto-start setting can let a returning encoder feed start a broadcast, but it does not reopen Streamlabs Desktop after the app crashes. To recover from a full app crash, you need a separate operating-system process supervisor to relaunch Streamlabs; then verify that the encoder reconnects and the intended YouTube event is live.
Identify what actually failed
“The stream stopped” can mean three different things, and each needs a different recovery mechanism. First determine whether Streamlabs is still open before changing settings.
| What happened | What can help | What it cannot do |
|---|---|---|
| The network connection dropped, but Streamlabs Desktop is still running | Connection recovery in the running encoder may restore its feed; investigate the connection and encoder status. | It does not address a Streamlabs process that has exited. |
| Streamlabs Desktop crashed or closed | A separately configured operating-system process supervisor can be used to relaunch an application that exits. | YouTube’s Auto-start setting does not relaunch the app. An automatic return to the exact prior live session is not established. |
| The encoder feed returned, but the YouTube broadcast did not begin | Check Auto-start and the settings for the specific YouTube event being used. | Auto-start does not launch or supervise Streamlabs Desktop. |
Streamlabs’ troubleshooting guidance covers certain go-live and connection problems, not automatic relaunch after a process crash. Its documentation does not establish a built-in Streamlabs Desktop crash-restart control (Streamlabs Desktop troubleshooting).
Configure YouTube so a returning encoder feed can start the event
YouTube Live Control Room has Auto-start and Auto-stop settings. YouTube explains: “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” That describes YouTube’s response to an encoder feed; it is not an app restart feature (YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings).

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open the intended event in YouTube Live Control Room. If you use a scheduled or reused event, check the settings on that event rather than assuming settings carry over.
- Check Auto-start. Enable it if you want the encoder feed to be able to start the broadcast. Auto-stop is a separate setting; choose it based on whether you want YouTube to stop the broadcast when the encoder stops.
- Confirm the event and stream key in Streamlabs Desktop. Streamlabs supports signing in to YouTube and using its Go Live flow to create a new event, or creating an event in YouTube first and selecting it in Streamlabs’ Go Live window. Make sure the selected event is the one whose settings you checked (Streamlabs Desktop troubleshooting).
- Test the start behavior when you can do so safely. Confirm that Streamlabs sends an encoder feed and that the intended event starts in Live Control Room. This tests the event configuration; it does not test crash recovery.
For a full crash, configure process supervision separately
If Streamlabs Desktop exits, something outside the application must notice that its process ended and start it again. An operating-system process supervisor can provide that separate layer. The sources do not document a current Streamlabs-specific supervisor recipe, supported launch command, or guarantee that Streamlabs will restore the prior scene, event selection, stream key, and live session automatically.
- Choose and configure a process supervisor for your operating system. Set it to start Streamlabs Desktop and to relaunch it if the process exits. The exact steps depend on the OS and supervisor; no particular command or configuration is established here as officially supported by Streamlabs.
- Check what Streamlabs restores at launch. Confirm the correct scene, YouTube account, event, and stream key are available. Do not assume that a fresh app launch resumes the exact previous broadcast.
- After relaunch, check both sides. Confirm Streamlabs reports that it is sending, then inspect YouTube Live Control Room to see whether the encoder feed has arrived and whether the broadcast is live. If the feed is present but the event has not started, recheck Auto-start for that event and start it through the supported event flow if needed.
Keep the supervisor, Streamlabs, and YouTube event behavior conceptually separate: the supervisor starts the desktop process, Streamlabs sends the encoder feed, and YouTube’s event settings determine how the platform reacts to that feed.

Troubleshoot when recovery does not happen
- Streamlabs is open but YouTube shows no feed: Treat this as a connection or go-live issue, not a process-relaunch issue. Streamlabs’ troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the stream key, signing out and back in, running the application as administrator, and reviewing selected output and connection settings for applicable failures (Streamlabs Desktop troubleshooting).
- Streamlabs restarted, but the wrong event is selected: Reopen the Go Live flow and choose the intended event; verify that event’s Auto-start setting in Live Control Room.
- The feed is back, but the broadcast is not live: Check Auto-start on the actual event and confirm the event is configured as intended. Auto-start is a YouTube broadcast setting, not a relaunch setting.
- The app relaunches repeatedly or fails to restore its setup: Check the supervisor’s restart policy and inspect Streamlabs’ startup state. The documented material does not establish automatic restoration of a session after a crash.
- You are considering clearing cache or user data: Do not use that as a routine crash-restart step. Streamlabs says clearing cache and restarting can wipe user data; deleting the user-data directory can require signing in again and rebuilding settings and scene collections. Preserve or understand your configuration before treating data clearing as a last-resort troubleshooting measure (Streamlabs Desktop getting started guide; Streamlabs Desktop support repository).
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuously looping, pre-recorded YouTube stream rather than a camera-based broadcast, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream; and the first day is free with no card.
