To rotate videos during a YouTube live stream, arrange the video sequence in the source or encoder feeding the broadcast. YouTube’s playlist-loop control repeats playback for a viewer; it is not documented as a way to send a playlist into a live broadcast. Choose an encoder or cloud service that supports the sequence and repeat behavior you need, then verify it in YouTube’s live preview before going public.
Why a YouTube playlist loop does not rotate a live stream
YouTube’s playlist loop is a playback control for someone watching a playlist. It repeats that playlist in ordinary viewing; it does not make the playlist the video source for a live broadcast.
A live broadcast is a feed sent to YouTube through a streaming method such as an encoder. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance covers stream keys, stream URLs, event settings, and encoder start and stop controls, but does not document an integrated live-playlist rotation setting. A stream key identifies the destination for the encoder; it does not create or rotate the video sequence.
Set up automatic video rotation with an encoder
The general workflow is to configure playback in the source or encoder that supplies the live feed. YouTube describes both software encoders and hardware encoders; its guidance does not establish that hardware is required or confirm playlist support in any specific product. Before relying on a setup, check that its source playback can play your intended videos in sequence and repeat them.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Choose the source and encoder. Use a software or hardware encoder appropriate to your production. Confirm its documentation or controls support the files, playlist order, and repeat behavior you need; do not assume that a YouTube playlist or series playlist provides those functions.
- Build the sequence in the source. Add the videos in the intended order and enable the source’s repeat or looping option if available. If it cannot play a sequence continuously, it will not automatically rotate the videos simply because they are arranged in a YouTube playlist.
- Connect the encoder to the YouTube live event. In YouTube Studio, set up the live stream and use the stream URL and stream key shown in its live settings in your encoder. Keep the key private. YouTube’s settings instructions cover these connection details; labels and screens can change, so follow the current controls shown for your event.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder feed and check YouTube’s live preview. Confirm that the expected first video appears, the sequence advances, repeat works at the end, and audio and video remain acceptable. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring quality for encoder events in its live-streaming tips.
- Monitor the running source. Rotation depends on the configured source continuing to play and send a feed. Watch for playback ending, a missing file, or a dropped connection rather than expecting YouTube’s viewer playlist controls to correct the source.
Software encoder or hardware encoder?
| Route | What to verify | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder | Whether the software can play the required files or sequence, repeat it, and be monitored reliably for the planned duration. | A setup where a computer-based encoder meets the production and continuity needs. |
| Hardware encoder | Whether the device supports the required source playback and repeat behavior, plus the monitoring and production workflow. | A production that already uses dedicated encoding hardware and can verify its playback capabilities. |
YouTube describes these as broad encoder options, not as a comparison of specific products. Its general guidance does not confirm that a given encoder has playlist rotation, so verify the feature with the encoder’s own documentation or controls before scheduling a long broadcast.
Do not confuse a series playlist with a live queue
A YouTube series playlist is a collection intended to help viewers watch videos together, not a documented queue for a live encoder. Series playlists require a verified account; only videos uploaded by the creator with rights to them can be added, and a video cannot belong to more than one series playlist. Those rules do not turn the playlist into a rotating live source.

Plan for long streams, archives, and viewer rewind
Archive backup
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. It recommends keeping a local backup recording. See YouTube’s archive guidance and do not treat the platform archive as your only copy.
DVR limits
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a live stream, but rewind capacity may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. This affects viewers’ ability to move backward through the broadcast; it does not control which video plays next. Details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Troubleshoot rotation problems
- The live stream shows one video instead of the playlist: Check the encoder’s source or playback configuration. A YouTube playlist loop repeats viewer playback and is not the live feed.
- The sequence stops at the last video: Confirm repeat is enabled in the source or encoder and that the sequence itself can continue. YouTube’s live settings do not document a playlist rotation switch.
- The wrong video or order appears: Check the sequence in the encoder or playback source, not only the YouTube playlist. Preview the complete handoff between videos before the event.
- YouTube receives no picture or the feed disconnects: Check that the encoder is running and that it is using the stream URL and key for the intended event. Review the event’s live settings and encoder connection before restarting the source.
- The archived stream is missing or incomplete: Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Keep the recommended local recording backup and consult YouTube’s archive guidance.
