Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo run a prerecorded bhajan playlist as a continuous YouTube Live stream, put compatible tracks in an FFmpeg concat manifest, feed it to FFmpeg in real time, and send the output to YouTube using the current RTMPS ingest URL and stream key. The playlist can repeat indefinitely, but the computer, network, credentials, and YouTube event still need to remain available; a looping command alone cannot guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 uptime.
Prepare a concat manifest
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads files in sequence and adjusts their timestamps. Its key constraint is that every input must expose matching streams, including the same codecs and time bases. For a playlist of audio files, keep the inputs consistently audio-only and use a separate video source if the destination requires video.
- Create a UTF-8 text file named
bhajans.ffconcat. Its first line must beffconcat version 1.0. - Add one
filedirective for each track, in playback order. For example:ffconcat version 1.0 file '/srv/media/bhajan-01.mp4' file '/srv/media/bhajan-02.mp4' file '/srv/media/bhajan-03.mp4' - Check every path and its quoting or escaping, especially if filenames contain spaces or special characters. Do not disable FFmpeg’s safe-path checks for an untrusted manifest.
Concat uses file durations to place following inputs, so incorrect duration information can produce timestamp or playback artifacts. For details, see the FFmpeg documentation.
Choose stream copy or normalization
Use stream copy only for compatible files
Stream copy avoids re-encoding and lowers CPU use, but it is appropriate only when the files have compatible streams and the destination accepts their codecs and container. Check the actual inputs rather than assuming that files with the same extension have matching encoding.

Normalize inconsistent tracks
If tracks differ in codec, sample rate, channel layout, or other stream properties, normalize them to a common format before concatenation, or re-encode through FFmpeg’s concat filter. The filter requires more encoding work, but FFmpeg’s FAQ recommends it when re-encoding is needed. The right common format depends on the files and destination; no single preset fits every playlist. See the FFmpeg FAQ.
Send the playlist to YouTube Live
For a straightforward YouTube encoder setup, use the current server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it in source control, screenshots, or public logs. Replace the destination placeholder in the example below with the exact URL and key supplied for your stream.

ffmpeg -hide_banner -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -i bhajans.ffconcat
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-c:v libx264 -tune stillimage -vf "color=c=black:s=1280x720:r=30"
-shortest -f flv "rtmps://INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY"
This is an illustrative starting point, not a tested universal command. -re paces input for a live destination, while -stream_loop -1 repeats the input. The example encodes AAC audio and generates a black video frame, but its -shortest interaction with the generated video must be validated with your installed FFmpeg build and target service. For a persistent visual, use a looping image or video input and a filter graph designed to keep the visual running while the audio repeats. Confirm the event actually stays live before relying on this setup.
Set encoder output deliberately
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video up to 60 fps; CBR; AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds. Its advanced guidance includes 44.1 kHz stereo and 128 kbps stereo audio. These are platform recommendations, not a reason to select the highest resolution or bitrate regardless of your connection. Choose settings your encoder, account setup, and upload connection can sustain. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.

YouTube’s setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one event can run indefinitely or that a 24-hour stream will be fully archived; check the current event behavior for your channel. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
When HLS is relevant
HLS is an alternative only when the workflow calls for it or RTMP is unsupported. YouTube’s HLS ingest requires HTTPS, TS segments, segments of 1–4 seconds, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. YouTube describes HLS as higher latency than RTMP. It is not necessary for the basic RTMPS example. See YouTube’s HLS ingest requirements.

Test the complete stream before scheduling it
- Run the exact playlist, visual input, encoding settings, and network connection you intend to use.
- Check that audio is audible and at a consistent level, the visual remains present, and playback moves cleanly from one track to the next.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health status and messages in Live Control Room while the test is running.
- Compare the total output bitrate with available upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; its guidance warns that a connectivity disruption can break the stream.
See YouTube’s encoder guidance and YouTube’s streaming tips. Testing can reveal setup problems, but it cannot guarantee uninterrupted service.

FFmpeg documents an RTMP FIFO output pattern that can attempt recovery after temporary output errors. Consult the current FFmpeg documentation before adapting its FIFO options to your command. Output recovery may help with a transient connection error, but it cannot fix power loss, a host reboot, disk failure, expired credentials, or a stream ended by the platform.

For a local or remote host, monitor the FFmpeg process and output, machine load, disk space, network connectivity, and YouTube’s live-health indicator. A process supervisor or restart policy can help relaunch a crashed process, but it is not an uptime guarantee. A local setup depends on the host and connection staying available. With a VPS or dedicated host, verify compute, storage, egress, restart behavior, account access, and provider terms before choosing it; provider suitability varies.
Fix common concat and streaming problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Concat reports errors or playback breaks between tracks | Inputs expose different streams, codecs, or time bases. | Inspect the files and use compatible inputs, or normalize/re-encode them with the concat filter. |
| Glitch or timestamp jump at a track boundary | Duration metadata is inaccurate or inputs are not aligned. | Verify file durations and stream compatibility; correct the inputs or normalize them before concatenating. |
| A file is not found or the manifest is rejected | A path is wrong or a filename’s spaces or special characters are not quoted correctly. | Check the path from FFmpeg’s working directory and fix the directive quoting or escaping. |
| The output stops or YouTube reports poor stream health | The process ended, the connection is unstable, or upload capacity is insufficient. | Check FFmpeg output, host and network status, the ingest URL/key, and YouTube’s health messages; leave the recommended upload headroom. |
| Audio plays but the live video ends or is rejected | The generated visual and -shortest behavior may not match the installed build or destination requirements. |
Test the full command. For a persistent picture, use a looping visual input and a filter graph that remains active for the audio loop. |
| YouTube does not accept the encoder connection | The URL or key may be wrong, stale, or entered in the wrong field. | Copy the current server URL and stream key from Live Control Room and keep the key private. |
Clear music rights before going live
Use only compositions and particular recordings for which you have the permissions needed to broadcast and livestream. A devotional subject, traditional status, or copy found online does not by itself establish that a recording or arrangement is cleared. Rights can depend on the specific work, recording, and jurisdiction; confirm the permissions that apply to your material before streaming.
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining FFmpeg, a host, and a network connection is more work than you want, StreamNeo runs prerecorded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; it streams what you uploaded at up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can FFmpeg stream audio-only to every live platform?
