You can run a continuous Bhojpuri music livestream from a spare laptop using OBS Studio as the encoder and YouTube Studio as the destination—but only if the channel is eligible, you have the necessary music and visual rights, and the laptop, power and internet connection hold up under a real-world test. A 24/7 schedule is an operating goal, not a guarantee that a laptop stream will never stop.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube documents a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key, which is unlikely to matter for one station. See YouTube’s encoder-streaming setup guidance.
- OBS Studio, a computer that can encode your chosen stream settings, and a stable connection and power source. OBS is free and open-source software for recording and live streaming, but meeting its minimum compatibility requirements does not prove an older laptop can run continuously.
- Authorization for every song, recording, composition and visual element used in the stream, including any archived replay and monetization if applicable.
- A way to monitor the stream and restart it if the laptop, OBS, internet or YouTube connection fails.
Clear music rights before making the playlist
Make a track-by-track inventory of the recordings, compositions and any artwork, video or other visuals you plan to use. Ask the relevant labels, distributors or rightsholders to confirm that your permission covers the intended territories, livestream use, any replay or archive, and monetization if you plan to monetize. These can be separate rights questions. Buying a song, subscribing to a music app or finding a track online does not by itself establish permission to livestream it.
YouTube warns that “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube advises that for licensed third-party content, the owner should add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Get confirmation from the rightsholder or distributor and keep the permission and allowlisting details on file. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and its YouTube for Artists guidance. Those platform pages explain scanning and allowlisting; they do not determine the scope of a particular Bhojpuri music license.
Enable YouTube live streaming in advance
- Sign in to the YouTube account for the channel and complete channel verification if you have not already.
- Check YouTube Studio for any live-stream restriction. YouTube requires the channel to have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Enable live streaming before launch. YouTube for Artists advises enabling it by verifying the account at least 24 hours before the first planned live stream. Do not leave first-time activation until the day you intend to broadcast.
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live and select the encoder workflow. Set up a stream and use the stream key shown for that stream in OBS. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it in a screenshot, and reset it if exposed.
YouTube’s current help page lists up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. A single Bhojpuri music station generally needs one stream and one key.

Set up OBS on the spare laptop
Check compatibility, then test the actual machine
The OBS Project lists Windows 10 or 11 with a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU; macOS 11 or later with an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU; and Linux or Unix with an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU and X window system or Wayland. These are compatibility requirements, not a promise of sustained encoding performance. OBS notes that CPU demand varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity; its Tools → Auto Configuration Wizard can help select starting settings. See the OBS system requirements.
Use the laptop you intend to run, not a more powerful machine, for a long test. A simple static visual and music playback source are less demanding than a complex animated scene, but performance still depends on the hardware and settings. No particular spare-laptop model or configuration can be assumed to stay live indefinitely.

Create a simple scene and connect the stream
- Install OBS Studio from the official OBS Project site.
- Create a scene with an authorized static image or video visual. Add the music playback source you intend to use and confirm it appears in the audio mixer.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect the account or enter the stream key from YouTube Studio. Never publish or send the key to anyone.
- Use OBS’s Auto Configuration Wizard as a starting point. Choose output settings the laptop can sustain; there is no universal bitrate, resolution or frame-rate setting that is safe to prescribe for an untested machine and connection.
- Check audio levels: playback should be audible without clipping, and no unintended microphone or desktop sound should be included.
- Start a private or unlisted test where appropriate. Check OBS for encoding overload or dropped frames and YouTube Studio for stream health before making the broadcast public.
Test the laptop and plan recovery
Run the test with the same power, cooling, display and network conditions planned for the actual 24/7 operation. A laptop that works during a short desk test may behave differently with a lid closed, power-saving settings enabled, heat buildup or a fluctuating home connection.
- Set the operating system so sleep or hibernation does not stop the stream while plugged in. Check what happens when the lid is closed; the safe choice is to leave it open with ventilation unless you have verified the laptop’s lid behavior.
- Keep vents unobstructed and test for heat, fan noise and encoding load over an extended period.
- Prefer a wired connection if available, and observe the actual connection during the test. The sources establish no universal upload-speed minimum for this setup.
- Practice recovery: reconnect after a brief network interruption, reopen OBS after closing it, and confirm the stream resumes correctly in YouTube Studio. A test does not guarantee future uptime.
- Arrange a human or remote check and decide who is responsible for stopping or restarting the stream. Monitor stream health, channel notices and the physical laptop.
Common problems and what to check

Spare laptop or hosted streaming?
Using the laptop reuses equipment and gives you direct control over OBS and the playlist, but it depends on that computer’s condition as well as local power, cooling, internet and someone’s ability to monitor failures. A hosted service moves the encoding offsite, which can remove the home computer and connection from the stream path, but adds a vendor, its terms and a recurring cost. Neither approach clears music rights or eliminates the need to manage YouTube’s copyright rules.
