To run a 24/7 fireplace-and-winter-wind stream on YouTube, prepare footage and audio you have permission to broadcast, create a YouTube live broadcast, send it through an encoder such as OBS, and test the actual picture and sound before leaving it live. YouTube does not guarantee uninterrupted streaming: plan how you will detect and recover from an interruption, and treat copyright clearance and monetization eligibility as separate issues.
1. Clear the footage and sound for continuous streaming
Use a fireplace video and wind audio that you recorded yourself or have documented permission to use in a continuous public livestream. Make sure your rights also cover any archive or replay you intend to keep. Save licenses, invoices, and written permissions where you can retrieve them if a claim arises.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match may interrupt or terminate a stream. Even if you have a license, a rights holder using Content ID may need to allowlist your channel to prevent an interruption. Ask the licensor about allowlisting before launch; a license by itself may not prevent the stream from being interrupted. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
2. Check that your channel can stream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. The minimum age to live stream is 16. YouTube also lists limits of up to 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. Check the current requirements and limits on YouTube’s live-streaming help page before setting up a broadcast.

3. Create the broadcast and connect an encoder
You need an encoder to send the prerecorded fireplace picture and wind audio to YouTube as a live stream. OBS is one software option; YouTube does not require a particular encoder or computer configuration. YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the broadcast (the event and its Watch Page) from the stream (the audio and video delivered to it), a useful way to understand the setup even when using an encoder interface.
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live broadcast. Follow YouTube’s current live control-room flow and select the encoder-based setup. Confirm the broadcast title, visibility, and any other settings before starting.
- Copy the stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Load your fireplace video and wind audio as a loop. In OBS, add the video as a media source and enable looping; add the audio source and loop it as well. Confirm the sources remain in sync and that the loop does not create a silent gap, abrupt cut, or unintended pause at the seam.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube’s preview. Wait for the incoming signal and inspect the preview and stream-health indicators before making the broadcast public.

4. Choose encoder settings and test the real loop
Choose a resolution and frame rate appropriate to your source footage and stable upload capacity; higher settings are not automatically better if the connection cannot sustain them. YouTube publishes supported codecs, bitrate guidance, and resolution recommendations in its encoder settings guide. It recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP, for encoder delivery.
- Use a supported video and audio codec and configure the encoder to match the resolution and frame rate you intend to send.
- Set bitrate within YouTube’s recommendation for that format and within the reliable capacity of your upload connection. Leave capacity for normal network variation rather than assuming a speed-test peak is sustainable.
- Test the stream with representative movement and audio: a flickering flame, moving shadows, wind peaks, and the loop point. A static image or silent test will not expose every issue in the finished stream.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health status after going live. If it reports instability, lower the output demands or address the connection before relying on the stream.
For a fixed encoder computer, a wired Ethernet connection may be worth considering if it is practical for your router and computer; YouTube emphasizes upload reliability but does not require Ethernet or specify cable hardware.

5. Plan for interruptions and ongoing operation
A continuous broadcast still depends on the encoder, the connection to YouTube, and YouTube’s service. The official setup guidance covers configuration and monitoring but does not guarantee 24/7 uptime or prescribe one universal automatic-restart arrangement. Decide who or what will notice a lost signal, check the encoder and stream-health status, and restart the broadcast if needed. Do not present a local computer or YouTube as infallible.
If you run the encoder on your own PC, the PC, power, and internet connection must remain available for the stream to continue. A hosted service is a different operating approach: it shifts playback and delivery away from a home computer, in exchange for a recurring service cost and dependence on that provider. Compare those trade-offs against how much control and hands-on monitoring you want.

6. Understand monetization limits
YouTube applies its channel monetization policies to live streams. Its monetization guidance says content should be original and authentic; repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible. A single minimally varied fireplace loop—or a set of near-identical ambience streams—does not guarantee monetization approval. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and make the work meaningfully yours rather than assuming duration alone makes it eligible.
Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue require participation in the YouTube Partner Program and acceptance of the applicable Watch Page Monetization Module. YouTube’s requirements are described in its Watch Page monetization guidance. Meeting technical livestream requirements does not itself qualify a channel for monetization.
