You can run a continuous Indian music stream by using a Hetzner VPS to keep an encoder such as FFmpeg running and send its output to YouTube with the channel’s Live server URL and stream key. The VPS keeps the encoder online; it does not provide music rights, certify a server size, or guarantee uninterrupted uptime. Before you build the stream, clear the rights for every recording and composition, then test the exact encoder setup and arrange monitoring and recovery.
What a Hetzner VPS does—and what it does not
A VPS is an always-on remote computer. You store or access your prepared media there, run an encoder, and send a live audio/video feed to YouTube. For a prerecorded music program, that feed can be a checked playlist paired with a static or changing visual. This is a practical setup pattern, not a configuration certified by YouTube or Hetzner.
The server solves the problem of keeping an encoder process running on your own computer. It does not grant permission to broadcast songs, ensure YouTube will keep the stream live, or guarantee that a particular Hetzner plan can sustain your chosen resolution and bitrate. No specific Hetzner plan has been established as suitable for a particular codec, resolution, or workload. Check the current plan’s CPU performance, memory, storage, region, outbound traffic allowance, and terms, then test your real stream on it before relying on it.
Clear the music rights before going live
Do not assume that owning a song file, having a streaming subscription, or being able to play a track privately gives you the right to broadcast it continuously. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of the live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. You are also responsible for applicable laws and regulatory requirements in the stream territory.

Check both the recording and the composition
For each track, establish who controls the sound recording and who controls the underlying composition, and get written permission or licenses that cover the intended live use and territories. If you expect to leave a replay available, confirm that archive or replay use is covered too. Rights depend on the actual catalog and distribution footprint; this guide cannot determine what a particular Indian music catalog requires.
Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A stream may be interrupted or terminated when identified material remains, and even a licensed stream can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Ask the rights owner whether they can allowlist your channel and test that arrangement before relying on unattended playback.
Do not treat Creator Music as live-stream clearance
YouTube says Creator Music tracks may be licensed or revenue-shared in long-form videos, with terms that can vary by track and territory, but those tracks are not available for live streams or Shorts under Creator Music. A track’s availability for a different YouTube format is not permission to include it in this broadcast.

Prepare and check the playlist
Build a finite playlist from files you are authorized to broadcast. Keep the original files, track metadata, permission records, and a separate backup. Before uploading or scheduling the program, check every file for missing media, unexpected silence, incompatible formats, and abrupt or unsuitable transitions. These are practical operating checks, not YouTube rules.
Decide what the viewer sees while the music plays. It may be a still image or changing visuals, but any artwork, footage, logos, or other material also needs appropriate rights. Test the complete audio-and-visual program rather than checking only that each track plays locally.
Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and its Live Control Room. Create a stream for the broadcast and locate its Live server URL and stream key in the encoder setup details.
- Copy the destination details into the encoder. Use the server URL as the destination and the stream key as the authentication value, following the encoder’s field layout. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection to Google’s servers.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not paste it into public scripts, screenshots, logs, or shared documents. If you believe it has been exposed, rotate it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder configuration.
- Check the preview before announcing the stream. Start a test transmission and confirm that YouTube receives both audio and video and that the Live Control Room reports a healthy stream.
Configure FFmpeg and test the actual VPS workload
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS with H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube lists 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps, using AAC or MP3. RTMPS is the recommended transport.

Use YouTube’s current bitrate guidance for the resolution and frame rate you choose; the right video bitrate is not a universal number for every stream. Begin with a modest profile that the selected server can sustain, and check sustained outbound throughput and encoder load during a representative test. YouTube’s published encoder guidance does not specify a Hetzner plan or guarantee the capacity needed for this particular workload.
For a single prepared program file, an FFmpeg command can follow this pattern. Replace the file path and destination values, and replace the video bitrate and buffer placeholders with values chosen from YouTube’s current guidance for the selected output. The 60-frame GOP shown is for a 30 fps output and therefore corresponds to a two-second interval.

-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv "RTMPS_SERVER_URL/STREAM_KEY"
This is a starting command pattern, not a verified Hetzner configuration. The video bitrate and buffer values are placeholders, not literal FFmpeg settings. Confirm that the output dimensions match the chosen profile, that the final destination combines the exact Live server URL and stream key in the format your encoder expects, and that the stream reaches YouTube with the intended audio and image quality. If your program is made from multiple separate files, prepare and test the playlist workflow on the server rather than assuming this single-file loop will join tracks correctly.

Keep the process supervised and plan for failures
A long-running encoder can exit, lose its input, or stop delivering usable output. Run it under a service manager or equivalent process supervision; set alerts for encoder exit and prolonged loss of output; and document how an operator can inspect logs, restart the process, and verify the stream again in YouTube Studio. A restart policy may recover from some process failures, but it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast or prove that YouTube resumed receiving it. Verify recovery end to end.
- Test the full stream from the VPS to the YouTube preview before committing to a long run.
- Watch for encoder exits, missing media, silence, and changes in stream health; define who receives alerts and who can respond.
- Keep a tested copy of the playlist and configuration, but restrict access to the stream key.
- Do not equate a running VPS process with a healthy public stream. Confirm the output in Live Control Room.
Choose between one continuous event and shorter sessions
One uninterrupted 24/7 event can provide continuity for listeners, but it is a poor choice if you need YouTube to preserve the entire broadcast as a replay. YouTube says a live stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends a local archive backup. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
If a replay matters, record a local archive or plan shorter broadcast sessions, and test the archive workflow before depending on it. Balance continuity for listeners against archive needs; do not promise a complete YouTube replay of a single uninterrupted 24/7 event.

Monetization is separate from permission to stream
YouTube’s monetization policies also apply to live streams. YouTube expects monetized channel content to be original and authentic; reused material without significant original commentary, modification, or added value can put channel-level monetization at risk. A simple loop of music should not be presented as guaranteed eligible for monetization.
Eligible monetized live streams can use ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships where available. YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour for channels that enabled automatic live mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. That is a platform-reported average comparison, not a forecast for a particular channel or music stream; ad delivery is not guaranteed for every viewer or slot.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely area to investigate | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Destination URL, stream key, or encoder configuration | Compare the encoder destination against the current Live server URL and key in YouTube Studio. If the key may have leaked, rotate it and update the encoder. |
| The preview has no sound, has silence, or plays the wrong segment | Input file, playlist, audio mapping, or media transitions | Play the source files and full sequence on the server, check for missing files and silent sections, then retest the audio in the YouTube preview. |
| Video stalls or stream health degrades | Encoder load, chosen profile, or sustained outbound throughput | Check server load and sustained output, then test a lower resolution or bitrate using YouTube’s current guidance. Do not assume a server’s advertised plan alone proves the workload will be stable. |
| A licensed track triggers a live interruption | Content ID identification or missing channel allowlisting | Contact the relevant rights owner, confirm the exact channel is allowlisted, and retest before restoring unattended playback. |
| The encoder stopped but viewers still expect a live stream | Process supervision or unverified restart | Inspect the process and its logs, restart according to the runbook, then verify that YouTube is receiving a healthy feed rather than assuming a process restart restored the broadcast. |
Or let it run in the cloud
