That can be a low-cost way to try a 24/7 gaming VOD channel, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted uptime: the PC, power and internet connection must stay available, and a single YouTube stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be archived.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days; streamers must be at least 16. First-time activation can take time, so check access well before your planned start.
- A PC that can play the footage and run OBS reliably. There is no universal low-cost PC specification established for this workflow; OBS’s setup wizard takes hardware and network conditions into account. Test the machine rather than assuming its capability from its price.
- Gameplay footage and audio you have the rights to broadcast. Permissions can depend on the game publisher and on music or other material included in the recording.
- A stable upload connection, power, and enough storage if you plan to record a local backup. In India, check your own ISP’s sustained upload performance and power continuity; there is no universal home-connection guarantee or India-specific encoder requirement for this setup.
YouTube says, “Encoders let you stream gameplay, overlays, and use hardware like preamps, mics, and cameras.” Those are examples of what an encoder workflow can support, not equipment you must buy to loop a video.
Set up the YouTube stream and OBS
- Enable and prepare live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Select the Gaming type if appropriate, and set the title, description, visibility, and other event details. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide explains eligibility and setup.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or show it in a recording. Reset it if you think it has been exposed. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover connecting an encoder and starting the event.
- Add the prerecorded gameplay. In OBS, add a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable Loop. Check the source’s audio behavior and levels. For several files, add a VLC Video Source and configure its playlist and loop behavior; VLC must be installed for this source to appear in OBS. The OBS documentation for Media Sources and VLC Video Source describes these options.
- Choose conservative encoder settings. For H.264, YouTube’s recommended video bitrates are listed below. Set rate control to CBR and keyframes to two seconds; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four. For RTMP/RTMPS audio, use AAC or MP3. These are encoder recommendations, not a promise that your ISP can sustain the chosen bitrate.
- Start with a private or unlisted test. Begin the encoder, check YouTube’s incoming preview and stream health, and confirm that the picture, audio, and loop behave as expected. OBS recommends doing a short test before a broadcast. If frames drop or the connection disconnects, lower bitrate or resolve the network instability before relying on the setup.
- Start the event in Live Control Room. Once the preview is correct, start the stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room. For a 24/7 operation, plan how you will detect and recover from a PC, power, OBS, or ISP interruption; a local setup does not restart itself merely because the channel is intended to stay live.

Measure the upload connection under realistic conditions and leave headroom rather than setting the encoder at the full result of a speed test. YouTube advises choosing quality that will produce a reliable stream based on your internet connection. If that connection cannot sustain a higher target steadily, use a lower resolution or frame rate; visual detail is less useful than a stream that keeps its connection.
Plan around archives and continuous uptime
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means uninterrupted 24-hour live continuity and a guaranteed full-length YouTube archive are different goals.

If you need an archive, consider ending and restarting the event before it reaches 12 hours, and/or record locally in OBS and verify that the file is being written. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive. Local files consume storage according to bitrate, recording format, and how long you retain them, so estimate the required space for your settings and retention period. An external SSD is optional for local backups, not required to go live.
A low-cost PC running OBS avoids a cloud-service subscription, but depends on the home computer, electricity, storage, and ISP remaining available. Keep an eye on stream health and have a practical restart plan; neither consumer internet nor a budget PC comes with a guaranteed 24/7 uptime promise.

Rights, reused footage, and monetization
Being able to broadcast a game does not by itself establish that every video, soundtrack, or other included material is cleared for streaming. Check the relevant game publisher’s streaming terms and consider music rights separately. Credit, a disclaimer, or labeling footage as gameplay does not automatically settle copyright questions.
Permission to stream and eligibility to earn money are separate issues. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and cover reused and inauthentic content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify its treatment of repetitive or mass-produced material; YouTube said its reused-content policy did not change. A channel that loops gameplay does not become eligible for the YouTube Partner Program or earn revenue simply by accumulating live hours. Eligibility, channel review, copyright status, and the creator’s original contribution all matter. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
