To run a YouTube lo-fi hip-hop stream around the clock and switch music between day and night, you need two things: a continuous encoder or hosted streaming workflow, and a separate scheduling feature that changes playlists without ending the broadcast. YouTube provides the live destination, stream key, and scheduling controls, but its documented Live tools do not provide a native day/night playlist scheduler. Confirm that your chosen workflow supports timed playlist changes, then test both transitions before announcing the stream.
What you need for a continuous lo-fi stream
YouTube describes an encoder as software or standalone hardware that converts and sends a stream. You connect it to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. For a prerecorded visual loop and music feed, that encoder or a hosted streaming service must keep sending the broadcast; a second automation layer must change the music on a clock.
YouTube’s published instructions cover stream setup, scheduling, stream keys, and controls such as auto-start and auto-stop. They do not establish a built-in way to switch between day and night audio playlists while keeping a Live broadcast continuous. Ask any software or service provider this specific question: can it switch playlists at scheduled times without ending or restarting the live stream?
Choose a streaming approach
- Computer and software encoder: Playback and output run on equipment you operate. You control the schedule, but must provide power, internet, software maintenance, and monitoring.
- Standalone encoder: YouTube’s encoder directory describes the AJA HELO Plus as hardware with a PlayToStream feature for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. Confirm with the vendor that its current workflow supports continuous output and the timed day/night playlist changes you need before purchasing.

Their inclusion does not establish support for clock-based playlist changes. Confirm scheduling, media formats, recovery, archive behavior, rights handling, and current service terms directly with each provider.

Check channel access and prepare the music
Confirm you can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming tips say a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Check access before building a launch schedule. YouTube live streaming tips
Clear every track and visual
Make sure you have rights for each track and visual asset for YouTube Live in the territories where the stream may be viewed, as well as any archive or replay you intend to offer. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the creator to have the rights needed to exploit the content worldwide, including relevant music rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Check both rotations: a day playlist and a night playlist are separate sets of content, and every track and piece of artwork needs appropriate permission. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask them to allowlist your channel before launch. YouTube warns that even licensed third-party content can interrupt a live stream if the channel is not allowlisted by the rights owner. YouTube copyright issues with live streams
Create and connect the YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. From the Manage tab, create a scheduled stream, or create a stream directly. Scheduling can make an upcoming broadcast visible to viewers and let them opt in to notifications.
- Choose or create a stream key. Configure your encoder with the YouTube stream URL and that key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it can send a feed to the stream. - Configure your encoder or hosted service. Set the source media, output, and stream destination using the provider’s instructions. YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe a universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe setting for this particular workflow; use current YouTube and encoder guidance for your chosen output rather than guessing.
- Test privately or unlisted before promotion. Check the Live Control Room preview, audio levels, visuals, stream status, mobile playback, and watch page. Test the day and night playlist changes
Do not treat an advertised playlist feature as proof of scheduled switching. Verify that the service or software can change from the day set to the night set, and back again, at the required times while preserving one continuous Live broadcast.

- Run both transitions during a test broadcast; check for silence, abrupt overlap, gaps, or an ended-and-restarted stream.
- Confirm what happens if a playlist ends, a track is missing, or a scheduled transition fails. Choose a fallback playlist or other recovery behavior if the workflow supports it.
- Simulate a reconnect or encoder restart. Confirm that playback resumes on the intended playlist rather than restarting at the wrong point or time.
- Check the stream on the watch page and a mobile device, not only in the encoder preview.
These checks matter because YouTube’s documented Live controls do not establish the playlist automation behavior; it must be provided and verified in your chosen workflow.
Plan interruptions, moderation, and archives
Monitor continuity
Decide who or what will detect silent audio, a frozen visual, a dropped connection, or a failed playlist transition, and document how to restart the encoder and contact rights holders. Do not assume a 24-hour stream becomes one complete replay
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That condition does not establish automatic archiving of a 24/7 broadcast.
