To loop a local video on YouTube Live from a gaming laptop, add it to an OBS Studio Media Source, enable Loop, then send the scene to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key. For a 4K 60fps stream, YouTube recommends 35 Mbps video bitrate with AV1 or H.265, or 50 Mbps with H.264; those figures describe the video stream, not the upload speed your Indian internet connection will reliably deliver. Measure upload capacity where you will broadcast and test the full setup before going live.
Before you start: check YouTube channel access
Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and live-streaming tips.
Set up a looping video in OBS
1. Create the YouTube stream

Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or manage a stream, then copy its stream URL and stream key.

In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service and enter the server URL and stream key as directed by the YouTube workflow. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your stream.

2. Add a single video file

In OBS, create a scene, then add a Media Source.

Select the video file on your laptop and turn on Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS restarts the file after it reaches the end.

Confirm the video fits the canvas and that its audio is routed as intended. OBS documents support for MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM media files in its Media Sources guide.
3. Loop a playlist instead
For multiple files, add a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. This is different from a single Media Source, whose Loop option repeats one selected file.

Recommended YouTube settings for 4K at 60fps
Set the output to 3840×2160 at 60fps. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends the following video bitrates and ingest settings in its live encoder settings table:

| SDR color guidance | Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth |
Use a codec your laptop’s encoder actually supports. The lower recommended bitrate for AV1 or H.265 does not mean either is automatically the best choice: hardware support and encoding load vary by laptop. For a 4K stream, YouTube’s low-latency option is unavailable, so the stream uses normal latency.
What upload speed do you need in India?
The 35 Mbps and 50 Mbps figures above are YouTube’s recommended video bitrates, not a promise that an internet plan advertised at the same upload speed will sustain the broadcast. Your connection needs stable capacity above the selected stream bitrate, with room for variation and other network traffic. There is no India-wide upload-speed or ISP recommendation established by YouTube’s encoder guidance.

Repeat the test at the time of day you expect to stream; available upload capacity can vary.

Leave headroom above the chosen video bitrate rather than treating the bitrate as the entire connection requirement.

Test the actual laptop, OBS scene, codec, resolution, frame rate, and audio together. A speed test alone cannot confirm that the encoder or connection will remain stable.
Check whether the gaming laptop can sustain the stream
The “gaming laptop” label does not establish 4K60 streaming capability. OBS lists Windows 10/11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU among its basic Windows requirements, but explicitly cautions that meeting compatible system requirements does not guarantee the computer can stream or record with OBS. CPU and encoder needs depend on the selected encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. See the OBS system requirements.

Use a supported hardware encoder if one is available, then run a full test at the exact settings you plan to use. There is no universal minimum laptop specification established here for reliable 4K60 looping.

Start an encoder test with representative video motion and audio. A static frame or muted test may not reveal the load or sound issues of the real loop.

Check the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast.

Once live, monitor stream health and verify both audio and video. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring as part of its live-streaming tips.

If the preview or health indicators show problems, stop and adjust bitrate or encoder settings, then test again rather than assuming the stream will improve after going public.
Common problems and fixes

| A playlist source is unavailable | Install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
| The stream drops frames or reports poor health | Recheck actual upload capacity at broadcast time and leave more headroom, then test a lower bitrate or a codec/encoder combination the laptop can sustain. |
| Video looks wrong or audio is missing | Inspect the Live Control Room preview and test representative audio and motion; verify the OBS scene, source, and audio routing before restarting. |
