To run a Gujarati devotional playlist on YouTube continuously with FFmpeg, prepare compatible video files, point FFmpeg at a playlist or loop one file with -stream_loop -1, and send the output to a YouTube Live stream using its current RTMPS address and stream key. The command only keeps running while your computer, FFmpeg process, and internet connection stay up; it is not an uptime guarantee.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check the current eligibility and setup guidance in YouTube’s live-streaming guide.
- FFmpeg installed on a computer or server that can remain powered on and connected to the internet.
- Video and audio files you have the rights to stream, including the specific recordings, backing tracks, artwork, and footage.
- A stable upload connection with enough headroom for the selected bitrate.
Gujarati devotional content is not automatically cleared for streaming because of its subject. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have necessary rights for worldwide use, including applicable music rights. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and clear each recording and visual asset you plan to use.
Prepare and check the video files
Before making a playlist, check each file’s video and audio streams, codec, resolution, frame rate, and duration. A sequence built with FFmpeg’s concat demuxer works best when files have compatible streams, codecs, and time bases. Different resolutions, codecs, frame rates, or audio layouts can cause problems, particularly if you try to join them without transcoding.
If the files differ, normalize them to a common format before creating the playlist, or use a transcoding pipeline that converts them as they are streamed. Do not assume that a stream-copy command will seamlessly combine unrelated files.

Loop one video indefinitely
For a single file, FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 option means repeat the input indefinitely. Put it before the input’s -i option:
ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i "YOUR_VIDEO.mp4" [OUTPUT_OPTIONS] "YOUR_YOUTUBE_RTMPS_DESTINATION"
This is a template, not a universal ready-to-run command. Replace the placeholders and choose output options that match your file, FFmpeg build, YouTube’s current ingest requirements, and available upload capacity. The loop option belongs before the input it applies to; encoding and streaming options go in the output portion.
Build a playlist from multiple files
Use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer to read a text file of compatible media files in sequence. Create a plain-text file such as playlist.txt, with one entry per line:

Then use the playlist as the input to FFmpeg. This template illustrates the input structure; select suitable output options and a current YouTube destination for your setup:
ffmpeg -f concat -safe 0 -i "playlist.txt" [OUTPUT_OPTIONS] "YOUR_YOUTUBE_RTMPS_DESTINATION"
The concat demuxer processes listed files sequentially; it does not by itself make the list repeat forever. FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 option loops an input, but applying it to a concat playlist can depend on the files and FFmpeg configuration. Confirm the behavior with your installed build and test the transition back to the first item before relying on it for continuous playback. FFmpeg documents both input looping and the concat demuxer, including compatibility and duration caveats.
If a playlist has files with different properties, normalize them first. Inaccurate file durations or mismatched stream layouts can also disrupt transitions; check the output rather than treating a successfully started process as proof that the playlist will play correctly.

Set YouTube Live output settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and frame rates up to 60 fps. For H.264, its recommended settings include these examples:
| Output | YouTube’s recommended bitrate | Listed range |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 2–6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 4–14 Mbps |
These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that your source or connection can sustain the setting. Choose a bitrate appropriate for the source quality and test it against your stable upload capacity. YouTube recommends a keyframe interval of about two seconds and says it should not exceed four seconds. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance for the current recommendations, including settings for other resolutions and frame rates.
Connect FFmpeg to YouTube and start the stream
- Confirm live eligibility. Check YouTube Studio and resolve any channel restrictions before planning a continuous stream.
- Create or schedule a stream. In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and create or schedule a stream using the encoder option.
- Copy the current ingest details. Get the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Use RTMPS when supported for encrypted ingestion; see YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
- Configure FFmpeg. Use the URL and key in the output destination and select compatible video, audio, bitrate, and keyframe settings. FFmpeg syntax varies with the source, installed build, and chosen codecs, so adapt the template rather than assuming one command works for every file.
- Protect the key. YouTube treats the stream key as the encoder’s stream password/address. Do not publish it in a script repository, screenshot, or public post. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio.
- Start FFmpeg and inspect the preview. Confirm YouTube receives video and audio, then check stream-health information in Live Control Room before relying on the stream.
- Monitor the whole chain. Watch for FFmpeg errors, lost network connectivity, muted or out-of-sync audio, and failed file transitions. A running terminal alone does not confirm viewers are receiving a healthy stream.
YouTube’s encoder workflow and current stream-key handling are described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

What 24/7 operation does—and does not—mean
FFmpeg can keep sending a looping input, but uninterrupted viewing depends on the computer or server staying on, the process continuing, the network remaining available, and YouTube accepting the feed. YouTube advises setting up in advance, testing, checking the preview, monitoring the stream, and testing backup-encoder failover when configured. Treat continuous playback as an operating goal, not a service-level guarantee.
A VPS or dedicated server is one possible way to keep an encoder process online, but it still needs correct configuration, adequate network capacity, monitoring, and recovery planning. Do not assume that moving the command to a server eliminates failures.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise that one session longer than 12 hours will be available as a complete archive. If a replay matters for a 24/7 channel, consider ending and restarting scheduled sessions before that limit, and confirm the current archive behavior in Live Control Room.

Troubleshooting common failures
- YouTube shows no incoming video: Recheck the current stream URL and key, destination syntax, channel eligibility, and whether FFmpeg reports an output error. Confirm that the stream is active in Live Control Room.
- The stream starts but drops or buffers: Compare the selected bitrate with stable upload capacity, check network interruptions, and inspect YouTube’s stream-health information. Test at a lower supported bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the original setting.
- A playlist stops at the end: The concat demuxer reads entries sequentially but does not itself repeat them. Verify the looping behavior of your FFmpeg command and build, then test a complete pass through the playlist and back to the first file.
- Playback breaks between playlist items: Check stream compatibility and durations. Normalize mismatched codecs, resolutions, frame rates, or audio layouts instead of assuming stream copy can join them cleanly.
- Audio or video settings are rejected or unhealthy: Compare codec, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval with YouTube’s current encoder guidance; inspect the received preview and stream-health indicators.
- The process ends unexpectedly: Read FFmpeg’s error output and check for machine sleep, restart, disk or file access problems, and network loss. Configure monitoring and recovery appropriate to the system; a looping option cannot restart a stopped process.
