You can run a Malayalam rain-and-thunder ambience stream on YouTube around the clock with an encoder such as OBS, provided your channel is eligible and you have the rights to every sound and visual. First test the stream privately, plan how to recover a dropped broadcast, and keep a separate recording if you need a complete archive. A 24/7 broadcast does not guarantee a 24-hour YouTube replay or monetization.
Plan the sounds, visuals and rights before you go live
Decide what viewers will hear and see: for example, rain on a roof, distant thunder and a calm landscape image. Use recordings and visuals you created or have permission to use for both the livestream and any archive or replay you intend to publish. Keep the original files, contracts and license terms so you can document your rights.
A “royalty-free” label alone does not establish that a recording is cleared for a YouTube livestream. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content, including other live broadcasts. If its systems identify a match, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using the material; if it continues, the broadcast can be interrupted or terminated. A license may not prevent a Content ID match. The rights holder may need to add your channel to its allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and resolve possible matching or allowlisting issues before relying on a source.
Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions. A channel can have permission to use its audio and still fail monetization review if its videos appear generic, repetitive or mass-produced.

Check whether your channel can livestream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The minimum age for livestreaming is 16. Check that live streaming is available in YouTube Studio before preparing a launch; account restrictions or feature availability can affect your plan. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
Set up an encoder stream with OBS
An encoder sends the audio and video from your computer to YouTube. OBS is one option; its Help Portal provides current support material. YouTube and OBS interfaces can change, so follow the labels currently shown in your account and software rather than relying on old screenshots.

- Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, choose the live-streaming workflow, and select the encoder option. Enter a clear title and description—for example, “Malayalam Rain and Thunder Sounds for Sleep | Live”—that accurately describes the soundscape. Choose the audience and visibility settings that fit your channel and launch plan.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Use the stream key and connection details provided in the Studio live control room. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in a screen recording, share it publicly or include it in a public description. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Build the scene. Add your cleared video or image source and your rain-and-thunder audio. Check that the video is stable and that the audio is actually routed to the stream. If the ambience is a long recording or loop, verify that it restarts cleanly and does not leave unintended silence or abrupt transitions.
- Check the live preview and status. Confirm the YouTube preview shows the intended image and that the control room receives audio and video before making the stream public. Use the current YouTube and OBS settings; do not copy encoder values from an old guide without checking whether they suit your source, connection and current platform recommendations.
The setup above deliberately avoids prescribing a universal bitrate, resolution or keyframe interval: the right encoder values depend on your source and connection, and should be checked against current YouTube guidance and the settings shown by your encoder.
Test privately before scheduling an all-day broadcast
Run a private or unlisted test and inspect it from another device. A running encoder process does not prove that viewers are receiving usable audio and video.

These are practical checks, not a guarantee that a particular device, network or setup will remain live. Test with your own equipment and correct any problems before announcing the stream.
Choose how to keep the stream running
For a continuous broadcast, the encoder and its source media need to remain available, and someone needs a plan for disconnections, software errors and account notices. The main approaches differ in who maintains the machine and handles recovery:

| Approach | What stays responsible for the stream | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Home computer with OBS | Your computer, power, internet connection and encoder must keep working. | You control the setup, but an outage or shutdown at home can interrupt the broadcast. |
| Self-managed server with an encoder such as FFmpeg | You configure and maintain the server, media files, connection and recovery process. | It can move the workload off a home computer, but requires technical administration. Actual provider cost and uptime depend on the service and configuration. |
| Managed cloud service | The service runs the uploaded media and provides whatever recovery behavior its product includes. | It can reduce the need to keep a home computer online; compare current price, file limits, recovery behavior and data handling before choosing one. |
These options are not an independent uptime or price comparison. Choose based on the control you need, the maintenance you can handle and the recovery responsibility you are willing to take on.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Protect the replay with an archive plan
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all and recommends keeping a local backup. A single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed complete YouTube replay. Read YouTube’s archive guidance before deciding how to preserve the stream.

If a complete archive matters, choose a recording plan rather than relying on YouTube alone. You could end and restart broadcasts on a schedule that keeps each stream below 12 hours, or record locally while livestreaming. Test the chosen workflow, including available storage and what happens if the recording machine or connection fails. A local recording backup may be stored on existing local or network storage; the suitable capacity depends on your files and recording settings.
Monitor the stream and respond to interruptions
Check YouTube Studio’s live control room and account notices while the broadcast is running. Look for a disconnected encoder, missing audio or video, copyright notifications and policy warnings. YouTube retains enforcement authority over live streams, so do not assume that an encoder showing as active means the broadcast is still available to viewers.
- No picture or a frozen image: Check the OBS scene and source, then confirm the control room is receiving video. Restart or reload a failed source if needed.
- No sound or distorted sound: Check the selected audio source and routing, listen to the output, and reduce the level if it clips. Verify the live preview before continuing.
- Encoder disconnected: Check the local internet connection and encoder status, then reconnect using the current stream key and connection details. Confirm that the stream returns in Studio.
- Copyright placeholder or interruption: Review the notice, stop using the matched content and resolve the rights issue with the relevant owner. If you hold a license, ask whether the channel must be allowlisted; a license by itself may not prevent a match.
- Broadcast ends unexpectedly: Check Studio for account or policy notices before restarting. Fix the underlying issue and verify the new stream in the live control room.
Set realistic expectations for monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams as well as uploaded videos. In a policy update dated July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible for monetization. Reviewers may consider a channel’s theme, popular and recent videos, share of watch time, metadata and About section. An ambience loop is not automatically monetizable because it is long, and changing a loop slightly does not guarantee approval. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Make the channel’s value and authorship clear: describe what is original about the recordings, presentation or curation, and keep metadata accurate. Do not promise viewers that rain or thunder will improve sleep; no specific sleep outcome is established here.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping a channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo offers any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and a first day free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. The first day is free once per account; confirm current plan details at StreamNeo.
