Choose the poll workflow that fits your stream
Streamlabs documents two ways to start a poll for YouTube: use a reusable Cloudbot poll profile from the Dashboard, or start one from the Desktop chat panel. The Cloudbot profile is useful for recurring questions and configurable voting behavior. The chat-panel route is an alternative when you want to start a poll from Desktop. If you want an on-stream results display, add the Poll source; a chat poll does not require that visual source.
Streamlabs’ Poll Widget page identifies Twitch and YouTube chat as supported platforms. That does not establish identical poll behavior on every platform Cloudbot may support. Streamlabs’ YouTube tutorial was published September 5, 2024 and updated October 22, 2024, so interface labels may change over time.
Set up and run a poll with a Cloudbot profile
- Link your channel and enable Cloudbot. In the Streamlabs Dashboard, link the channel you intend to use, then enable Cloudbot. Streamlabs’ current setup guide recommends linking the channel first.
- Open the poll area and create a profile. In Cloudbot’s poll area, select Add Poll Profile.
- Enter the question and choices. Give the poll a title and create at least two options. Set a name and a chat command for each option so viewers can select their preferred answer.
- Set optional poll behavior. Configure a timer or duration if you want the poll to close automatically. Enable vote notifications if you want viewers to receive confirmation that their vote was recorded.
- Save the profile. Profiles can be reused, so you can prepare a recurring poll once and launch it again later.
- Start the poll when ready. From the profile list, click Start Poll. Cloudbot announces the poll in chat and tells viewers how to vote.
- Tell viewers the voting command. The documented command format is
!vote <option>. Use the option’s command as configured in the profile.

Start a YouTube poll from the Desktop chat panel
Streamlabs’ YouTube tutorial also describes starting a poll from the Desktop chat panel: use the plus button, then choose the Poll control. This is a separate launch route from selecting Start Poll on a saved Cloudbot profile in the Dashboard; do not expect the two paths to have identical setup screens. Add poll results to the stream
- In Streamlabs Desktop, add a new source and choose Poll.
- Enable Cloudbot and start the poll from the Streamlabs Dashboard.
- Customize the widget if needed; it displays poll results on the stream.
The widget is optional when you only need voting in chat. Streamlabs describes the Poll Widget as supporting Twitch and YouTube chat on its Poll Widget page. OBS users can install the Streamlabs OBS plugin or use a browser source, according to that page.
