The low-cost part is a trade-off: continuous video uses substantial outbound data, and the cheapest server is not necessarily able to encode your chosen format reliably. Test the exact setup before relying on it.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live-streaming access. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you plan to launch. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the Live Control Room workflow.
- A Linux VPS with enough disk space for your loop media, operating-system updates, and logs; enough memory and CPU for your encoder; and an outbound transfer allowance that covers the broadcast.
- A pre-recorded video or playlist that you are authorized to stream, plus an encoder such as FFmpeg.
- A stable route from the VPS to YouTube’s ingest service, and a way to check logs and restart the encoder.
A VPS is the encoder origin: it sends the stream to YouTube. YouTube distributes the broadcast to viewers, so choosing a server in India does not itself establish better viewer delivery or stream quality.
Prepare the video and YouTube broadcast
Check the media
Upload the video to the VPS and play it through once before configuring a loop. Check that both picture and sound work and that the codecs can be handled by your chosen encoder. Keep a local backup. The available YouTube guidance does not prescribe a file format for this particular loop workflow, so verify the actual file with the encoder you select.
Enable live access and create the stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room.
- Create or select the broadcast and copy its server URL and stream key.
- Enter those values in the encoder configuration on the VPS. Treat the key as a password: do not put it in a public script, screenshot, repository, or support message. Anyone with the key may be able to stream to your channel.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Use the server URL provided by the Live Control Room and choose RTMPS where your encoder and the supplied ingest address support it. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate recommendations.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a VPS for the full workload
Compare more than the headline monthly price. A continuous stream can be modest in CPU use if the encoder passes through already-encoded audio and video, but real-time transcoding requires more compute; no benchmark here establishes what a particular plan can sustain. Test your exact media and settings on the plan before committing to a long billing period.
- Region and route: Check whether the provider offers an India location and test the route to YouTube ingest. A Mumbai or Bangalore server is not established as a requirement, nor is a geographic advantage to audience delivery.
- Compute and memory: Confirm CPU performance for sustained encoding and enough RAM for Linux and the encoder. A low advertised vCPU count does not establish how much sustained capacity is available.
- Storage: Fit the media, logs, updates, and any local backup. Check disk type and whether snapshots or backups cost extra.
- Outbound transfer: Confirm that the monthly allowance covers outbound video, how traffic is counted, whether excess use is billed or throttled, and whether allowances are shared across instances or IP versions.
- Recurring cost: Check renewal price, taxes, billing minimums, IPv4 charges, backup charges, and any introductory-term conditions at checkout.
- Operations: Look for console access, monitoring, reboot behavior, snapshots, and support. These matter when you need to restore a failed stream.
A published Mumbai example, not a performance recommendation
Amazon Web Services’ Lightsail pricing page lists a Mumbai Linux/Unix bundle at $3.50 USD per month with 512 MB memory, two vCPUs, 20 GB SSD, and 1 TB transfer. AWS says Mumbai bundles include half the general transfer allowance listed in its bundle table, and outbound transfer beyond the plan allowance can incur overage charges. This is a pricing-page snapshot accessed in 2026, not a tested 24/7 video workload or a guarantee that the same plan is selectable under the same terms at your checkout. Confirm the current bundle, IP options, taxes, and billing terms on AWS Lightsail pricing.
A third-party India VPS comparison can help identify providers and regions to investigate, but it is not the hosting contract. Verify all plan, location, transfer, renewal, and tax details directly with the provider.

Estimate bandwidth before renting
For a steady video bitrate of B megabits per second, approximate transfer is B × 0.45 GB per hour in decimal gigabytes, before audio, protocol overhead, reconnects, and other server traffic. This is a unit-conversion estimate: multiply megabits per second by 3,600 seconds, divide by eight bits per byte, then by 1,000 megabytes per gigabyte.
| Steady video rate | Approximate transfer per hour | Approximate transfer for 30 continuous days |
|---|---|---|
| 4 Mbps | 1.8 GB | About 1.3 TB |
| 10 Mbps | 4.5 GB | About 3.2 TB |
The estimates exclude overhead, so do not treat a transfer allowance equal to the arithmetic result as a safe margin. Add audio bitrate and headroom, then compare the total with the provider’s definition of included outbound traffic and its overage policy.
Configure the encoder conservatively
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Match encoder settings to a stable upload connection and test the entire route. Its listed H.264 starting recommendations include:

| Output | Recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommendations, not proof that your VPS can encode at that rate. If you are passing through an already-encoded file, avoid unnecessary transcoding where your workflow permits it; if you are transcoding, measure CPU use and watch for dropped frames during a representative test. Set audio to a supported codec and bitrate, and include it in your bandwidth estimate.
Run the loop under supervision
Configure the encoder to repeat the media and send it to the YouTube URL using the private stream key. The precise loop configuration depends on the encoder and media; confirm the file reaches its end and starts again without a gap or failure. The sources cited here do not verify a specific FFmpeg command for this task, so do not assume a copied command will work for every file or server.
Run the encoder with a process or service manager that can restart it after a process failure, retain logs, and support a clear manual stop. Test restarting the process and reconnecting to YouTube before launch. A local process restart does not, by itself, guarantee that YouTube will preserve the same broadcast or that the viewer sees uninterrupted playback.

Test, monitor, and understand YouTube’s limits
YouTube recommends testing before launch with the audio and motion you expect to broadcast, then monitoring stream health and messages during the event. Check the VPS process, CPU and memory use, transfer consumption, encoder logs, and YouTube’s Live Control Room health indicators.
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish indefinite operation of a single stream or a 24/7 archive. If continuous availability or archives matter, verify YouTube’s current guidance and test the exact broadcast and restart workflow you intend to use rather than assuming a stream can run forever.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely checks and fixes |
|---|---|
| YouTube will not accept the stream | Confirm live access is enabled, the correct broadcast is selected, and the URL and key were copied from that broadcast. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. Keep the key private and regenerate it if exposed. |
| Stream health is poor or frames drop | Check VPS CPU use, encoder logs, and connection stability. Reduce the output resolution or bitrate to a level the server and route sustain; test again with representative video and audio. |
| The stream stops after a process error | Inspect service logs and disk space, correct the underlying failure, and verify restart-on-failure behavior. Then check Live Control Room to confirm what YouTube received; a restarted encoder is not proof the same broadcast resumed seamlessly. |
| The media does not loop cleanly | Play the file to completion with the selected encoder and inspect its audio/video codecs. Adjust the loop configuration for that file and retest before relying on it. |
| The VPS approaches its transfer limit | Compare provider usage with the bitrate-based estimate, including audio and overhead. Lower bitrate if quality remains acceptable, choose an allowance suited to the schedule, or stop before unplanned overages accrue. |
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Only stream material you have the rights to use. A loop of pre-recorded video is still a public YouTube broadcast: music, game footage, or other material may be subject to copyright claims or restrictions. Review YouTube’s current rules and your permissions before going live. Repeating content does not itself establish that it complies with YouTube’s monetization or reused-content policies; those decisions depend on YouTube’s applicable channel policies, not on whether the stream is technically functioning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a low-cost VPS have to be located in India?
No India location is established as a technical requirement for YouTube ingest. Compare route quality, transfer allowance, and total cost, then test the chosen server.
Can I use a hardware encoder instead of software?
YouTube accepts encoder streaming from software or hardware. For this VPS workflow, software is sufficient; hardware is optional.
