To run an Urdu radio-style stream on YouTube around the clock, you need a rights-cleared programme, a continuous audio source, an encoder that sends audio and video to a live-enabled YouTube channel, and a plan for monitoring and recovery. First settle the music and recording rights: YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, and even licensed music can be interrupted if the relevant rights holder has not allowlisted your channel.
What a 24/7 Urdu radio stream needs
A YouTube radio livestream is not audio alone. An audio source—such as a scheduled playlist or a live studio feed—goes to an encoder, which sends the programme and a visual signal to YouTube. Viewers hear the audio and see the accompanying video, which might be a station image or other visual you have the rights to use.
For continuous operation, the whole chain has to keep working: programme source, audio routing, encoder, internet connection, video feed, YouTube account access and an operator or monitoring system able to respond when something stops. The Centre for Media Studies and Communication Technologies (CEMCA) manual describes the general source-client and streaming-server architecture, including a studio mixer and sound-card setup. It dates from 2013, so use it for the architecture—not as a current software or equipment buying guide: CEMCA’s Web Radio manual.
There is an important distinction between a live radio station and a loop of prerecorded programming. A studio broadcast includes a live audio input; a prerecorded stream can play a prepared programme continuously. The equipment and hosting choices depend on which one you intend to run.

Clear rights before building the schedule
Make a rights inventory for every planned recording, composition, spoken segment, image, animation and other third-party element. Confirm that the permissions cover the actual use: public online transmission on YouTube, the relevant territories, monetization if applicable, and an archive or replay if you plan to leave the stream available afterward.
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights for use on Google services, including applicable music rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants. They also require the provider to meet the applicable requirements in the territory where the livestream is made available. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions before going live.

India’s Copyright Act defines “communication to the public” broadly, covering making a work or performance available to the public by display or diffusion, whether or not anyone actually hears or sees it. The Copyright Rules include a statutory-licensing chapter for specified broadcasts of certain literary and musical works and sound recordings, with notice, royalty and record-keeping provisions. Those texts do not, by themselves, establish that a terrestrial-radio licence authorizes a particular YouTube simulcast. The answer depends on the repertoire, rights and format. Confirm the position with the relevant rights owners or a qualified Indian lawyer before streaming. See the official Copyright Act, Chapter I and Copyright Rules, Chapter VIII.
Choose a programme source and audio path
For scheduled or prerecorded programming
Use radio playout or automation software, or another continuous audio source, to play a schedule that does not depend on someone pressing play throughout the day. Prepare the visual signal as well, then connect the source to an encoder-capable computer or hosted encoder. Before launch, verify that the programme advances as intended and that the audio remains present during transitions and gaps.

For a live studio feed
Route the studio mixer’s output into the encoder computer through a suitable audio input or interface. Check that the computer receives the intended mix, that the input is monitored, and that the live feed can be restored if a cable, input device or source process fails. A software-only audio source may not need a separate interface; an external mixer or other physical source may.
For a continuous visual
Supply a visual signal along with the audio. Use imagery, artwork and any looped animation only when you have permission to use them for this purpose. A static station image can be operationally simpler than a video loop, but it does not change the rights needed for music or other third-party material in the audio programme.

Configure YouTube and run a controlled test
- Make the channel live-ready. Sign in to the YouTube channel that will carry the broadcast and check that it can start a livestream. Do this before the planned launch so that an account-access or live-eligibility issue does not become an on-air failure.
- Open YouTube’s live controls. Use YouTube’s current Live Control Room to create or manage the broadcast and obtain the stream details it provides to the encoder. Interface labels and encoder settings can change; use the current instructions shown for your channel rather than relying on an old software guide.
- Enter the stream details in the encoder. Configure the encoder to send the selected audio source and visual signal to the YouTube destination. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live controls and update the encoder.
- Use the current encoder guidance for technical settings. Resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio format and keyframe interval are encoder settings, but the sources available for this guide do not establish current YouTube values for them. Do not copy a dated example or guess a bitrate. Follow the current YouTube guidance for your chosen output and verify that the encoder reports a stable connection.
- Test before announcing the station. Start with a controlled test. Confirm that the public-facing preview has both picture and sound, the intended programme is playing, the levels are not silent or distorted, and the stream appears as expected to a viewer. Check a transition between tracks or programme items, not only the opening seconds.
- Start the broadcast and keep the controls accessible. Once the test is sound, begin the live broadcast in the current YouTube controls and keep account access, encoder controls and the recovery instructions available to the person on duty.
Design continuity for a 24/7 operation
Always-on streaming is an operating plan, not a single encoder checkbox. Identify what happens if power, internet, the audio source, the encoder process, account access or the YouTube stream fails. Assign a person or monitoring system to check the live output and alerts; write down how to restart or fail over each part of the chain.
- Power and connection: Decide who can restore the encoder and network connection after an outage, and how they will know one has occurred.
- Programme source: Check that playlists or automation keep advancing, and decide what should play if the scheduled source stops.
- Encoder: Document how to restart it and re-establish the YouTube connection without exposing the stream key.
- Monitoring and support: Check the stream itself—not only a “connected” status—and define who responds to silence, a frozen visual, a dropped feed or a platform warning.
- Hosted infrastructure: If you do not want to maintain a local server, compare providers on support response, source compatibility, monitoring, recovery procedures and any stated uptime commitments. Hosting can reduce server administration; it cannot clear music rights.
CEMCA’s manual discusses using an external streaming service provider to avoid maintaining a station’s own server and identifies support response as a service consideration. Its examples are historical; assess current providers against your own source and recovery needs rather than treating the manual as a current endorsement.

Prepare for Content ID matches and interruptions
YouTube says it scans all live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn the operator. If the matched material remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream; a copyright strike can also end it. A licence alone does not guarantee that the live feed will continue uninterrupted if the channel is not on the relevant Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
- Before launch: Ask the relevant rights holder whether your channel needs to be added to their Content ID allowlist for the licensed material.
- If a warning or interruption appears: Check the YouTube live controls and identify the matched material. Follow the platform’s instructions and your rights agreement; do not assume that restarting the encoder resolves a rights match.
- If you keep an archive: Review it separately. YouTube says Content ID claims can be made after a livestream ends, so uninterrupted live transmission does not settle the rights status of the recording.
Compare the setup choices against your station
Choose by the signal you need to send and the maintenance your team can handle. No hardware or hosting arrangement substitutes for rights clearance.
| Decision | Option A | Option B | What to compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Programme production | Software playlist or automation | Live studio mixer and presenters | Source continuity, staffing, inputs and recovery if the source stops |
| Stream infrastructure | Local encoder or server | Hosted playout or streaming provider | Maintenance, support response, source compatibility, monitoring and recovery procedure |
| Audio connection | Software audio path or built-in input | External mixer or suitable audio interface | Input type, compatibility with the studio output and monitoring needs |
| Rights approach | Owned or specifically commissioned material | Third-party commercial repertoire | Recording and composition rights, territory, live use, archive, monetization and Content ID allowlisting |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded Urdu radio programme, StreamNeo is a cloud option to consider first: it keeps an uploaded video looping on YouTube from the cloud, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it is not a way to send a live microphone or studio mixer feed. To use it for a radio-style programme, first render the audio programme with a visual signal as a video file you have the rights to use.
- Upload the prepared video to StreamNeo.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the upload from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
There is no re-encode or quality tier: the upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across your active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. Plans use the same product; only the billing length changes. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo pricing for the available billing lengths. For a live studio broadcast, use a setup that accepts the actual live audio source instead.
