Use a matching YouTube stream URL and stream key for each encoder output. One feed can appear on multiple YouTube live pages, but those pages will carry the same content—not independently programmed stations.
Choose the right feed setup

YouTube’s API distinguishes a live broadcast event (liveBroadcast) from the stream carrying audio and video into it (liveStream). Its documented shared-stream example is for showing the same content on separate videos, not for creating distinct radio channels. YouTube’s broadcast and stream documentation explains the distinction.
Check YouTube access and simultaneous-stream limits
Enable live streaming on the channel before scheduling broadcasts. YouTube says first-time enablement can take at least 24 hours, and eligibility and account-standing requirements apply. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements for current conditions.
YouTube Help, accessed in 2026, states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Both limits apply at the same time; reaching either prevents starting another stream. Limits can change, so confirm the current help page before planning a multi-channel operation.

Set up a separate event and feed for each radio channel
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, complete the channel’s live-stream setup and allow time for first-time activation.
- Create or schedule each event. In YouTube Studio, create one live event per independently programmed radio channel. Set the title, visibility and schedule for the correct station.
- Keep a routing map. Record each station name, its event, stream key, encoder output and responsible operator. This reduces the chance of sending one station’s audio to another station’s live page.
- Configure the encoder for that event. Enter the matching YouTube server URL and stream key in that feed’s encoder output. YouTube recommends RTMPS; its encoder settings guidance describes the secure protocol recommendation.
- Start the correct feed and check the event. Send the feed, then use Live Control Room to verify that the event receives the intended audio and video before confirming the broadcast is live. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers scheduled streams and Live Control Room.
- Repeat without reusing the wrong output. Configure the next station’s event with its own matching feed. A shared incoming stream is only appropriate when the programming is intentionally identical.
Treat stream keys as credentials: keep them private and avoid sharing them casually. If a key is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the corresponding encoder before restarting that feed.
Choose local or cloud encoding
Local encoding
With local encoding, software or hardware at your location processes and sends the feeds. It gives the operator direct control, but the computer or encoder must handle every independent output, and your internet connection must upload them simultaneously. YouTube says local encoding supports multiple simultaneous streams; it does not establish a universal number of feeds one computer can manage. Test your own equipment and connection under the intended load.

Cloud encoding or distribution
A cloud service can distribute an incoming stream to multiple destinations and may be simpler when sending to more than two channels. YouTube’s guidance describes the model as sending one high-quality stream to a cloud service, which then distributes it to the desired channels, resolutions or platforms. Subscription costs and service limits vary, so confirm current terms with the provider.
Test bandwidth, stream health and archive behavior
- Measure the real workload. Sufficient upload speed matters when sending multiple feeds. Test using the expected quality and number of simultaneous outputs, not just one station at a time.
- Use representative content. Test with the actual radio audio and representative video motion. Check audio continuity and watch YouTube’s stream-health messages before and during the broadcast.
- Confirm routing and event details. Check that each event has the intended title, visibility and schedule, and that its incoming feed is the correct station.
- Plan for replays. YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Confirm replay behavior for your workflow and desired archive settings.

Separate technical setup from music rights
Creating an event, using an encoder or successfully sending a feed does not establish permission to broadcast the music or other material in it. The technical YouTube guidance does not determine whether a station has the necessary rights for its recordings, programming or territories. Resolve those permissions separately for the content and jurisdictions involved.
