To run Kahoot! trivia during a YouTube Live stream, host the game on a computer, share the relevant screen or window with your YouTube broadcast, and tell viewers how to join and answer before the timer starts. Kahoot! identifies YouTube Live as a way to share a hosted game remotely. YouTube’s own Live Chat polls are a separate feature: they collect responses in chat rather than displaying a Kahoot! game.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and have no livestream restriction in the preceding 90 days; the creator must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming guide and its age requirements.
- A Kahoot! account and a game you can host. The current host interface determines the available game and participation options.
- A broadcast setup that can show the game to viewers. In YouTube’s webcam workflow, screen sharing requires a connected webcam and microphone. An encoder is another option for broadcasts that need a different production workflow.
- A test run before the audience arrives, so you can confirm which screen or window is visible and that viewers can follow the interaction.
Kahoot!’s remote-hosting guidance recommends checking bandwidth guidance for a large audience. Hardware needs depend on your broadcast route; a dedicated encoder is not a universal requirement for hosting Kahoot!.
Run Kahoot! trivia in your YouTube Live broadcast
- Prepare the YouTube broadcast. Confirm livestream access, then schedule or set up the event in YouTube Live Control Room if you want time to test before going live.
- Start hosting the Kahoot!. Find the game in your Kahoot! account and start a live host session. Kahoot! recommends displaying questions and answers on players’ devices for remote hosting. Its guide says the scoreboard and correct answers appear only on the host’s screen, so consider that before choosing what to share.
- Go live and share the game. In YouTube’s webcam workflow, start the broadcast in Live Control Room, select Share screen, and choose an entire display, a window, or a tab. Keep the game visible to viewers while avoiding host-only information you do not want to reveal. If you use an encoder or another broadcast route, follow that tool’s screen-capture controls and prerequisites instead.
- Explain participation before starting the timer. Tell viewers where and how to join, how they will submit answers, and when each round begins. Kahoot!’s current join flow and host interface provide the details to communicate; check them in the live session rather than relying on outdated instructions.
- Keep the pace comfortable. Kahoot! advises hosts not to speak over the timer music. Wait until answers are in before speaking, or lower or mute the game music so instructions remain clear.
- Check the shared view during the broadcast. Confirm that viewers can see the question and that your selected screen, window, or tab has not exposed private host information. If you need to change the capture target, pause between rounds and verify the new view.
Kahoot! describes services including YouTube Live as ways to share a hosted game screen with others in its remote-hosting guide. YouTube’s webcam live-streaming instructions cover sharing a screen, window, or tab.

Common problems and fixes
- Viewers cannot see the game: Check that screen sharing is active and that you selected the display, window, or tab containing the host session. In YouTube’s webcam workflow, confirm a webcam and microphone are connected.
- The shared screen reveals host-only information: Kahoot! says the scoreboard and correct answers appear on the host’s screen. Change the capture target or arrange the host view so those details are not shown to viewers.
- Instructions are hard to hear over the game: Avoid speaking over timer music. Pause between rounds, or reduce or mute the game music while explaining the next step.
- The host cannot start a YouTube broadcast: Check channel verification, the prior-90-day livestream restriction rule, and the minimum creator age in YouTube’s current eligibility guidance.
- A large audience experiences a poor stream: Review Kahoot!’s bandwidth recommendations and test the chosen broadcast and screen-sharing path before the event.
