How to Run Two 24/7 YouTube Music Radio Channels From One VPS

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes. One VPS can run two separate 24/7 YouTube music-radio feeds if it has enough sustained network capacity and compute for the two encoder jobs. Set up each feed as an independent output with its own matching YouTube server URL and stream key, then monitor the two streams separately. YouTube currently allows up to 10 active streams per channel and up to 3 active streams per stream key, subject to both limits at once; the channel must also be verified and free of a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days.

What you need to run two separate feeds

  • A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days.
  • Two independent encoder outputs on the VPS, one for each music program.
  • A distinct, correctly matched YouTube stream configuration and key for each output.
  • Enough sustained outbound bandwidth and VPS compute for both jobs, plus headroom for overhead and other host activity.
  • Music you have the rights to use on YouTube, and an independent recording plan if complete replays matter.

YouTube Help states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply. These are concurrency limits, not a guarantee that the VPS can handle the workload. YouTube’s live-stream eligibility rules also require channel verification and no live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before scheduling the feeds.

Configure two YouTube events and encoder outputs

  1. Check each channel’s live eligibility. In YouTube Studio, confirm live streaming is available for the channel. If the feeds will be on different channels, check each channel separately.
  2. Create or schedule the live events. Set up the two music-radio broadcasts in YouTube Studio. Treat each distinct program as its own incoming feed configuration.
  3. Match each output to its event. For each encoder job, use the server URL and stream key shown for the corresponding YouTube stream configuration. Keep a clear mapping between program, event, and key so the feeds cannot be crossed accidentally.
  4. Run two independently supervised encoder jobs. Start one process per feed, with separate source and output settings. YouTube’s documentation does not prescribe an FFmpeg command, process manager, watchdog, or restart policy, so validate your commands against the installed encoder version and test the recovery behavior you choose.
  5. Start and verify both streams in Live Control Room. Check that each event receives the intended video and audible music, and that ingestion health remains good on both outputs.

Google’s API model distinguishes a liveStream, which represents the incoming audio/video feed and its settings, from a liveBroadcast, which represents an event/watch page. One incoming stream can be bound to multiple broadcasts for cases where the same feed is reused, but that is not a way to create two different music programs. For separate channels, Google’s guide calls for a different stream for each channel.

Encoder settings for each feed

Use a profile supported by YouTube for the chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate, and apply it independently to each output. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingest, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed 4 seconds.

Setting Guidance
Transport RTMPS is recommended. Google’s RTMPS guidance requires a valid endpoint and path, port 443, and the server hostname for SNI-based authentication.
Video codec YouTube’s guide lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1.
Frame rate Up to 60 fps is supported; select a profile and bitrate appropriate to the actual frame rate.
Rate control CBR is recommended.
Keyframes 2-second interval recommended; no more than 4 seconds.
Audio AAC or MP3 are listed. The guide specifies 128 Kbps for stereo audio and 44.1 kHz stereo sampling.
Example video bitrate For H.264 at 1080p60, YouTube’s table recommends 6 Mbps. Consult the current YouTube table for the exact minimum and recommendation for the selected codec and profile; do not apply this example to another resolution or frame rate.

For two outputs using the same profile, a rough starting point for outbound capacity is the sum of both configured video and audio bitrates, with additional allowance for protocol overhead and operating headroom. This is an engineering estimate, not a YouTube VPS sizing formula. The sources do not specify required CPU, memory, egress limits, or a universal safety margin. Re-encoding both feeds can demand substantially more compute than copying compliant media without re-encoding; benchmark the actual workload on the VPS and check the provider’s current bandwidth and usage limits.

Monitor the streams independently

A running encoder process does not prove that YouTube is receiving a healthy feed. YouTube’s stream health indicators can flag low bitrate, a frame-rate mismatch, or missing audio. Check each output’s status in Live Control Room after startup and during operation, and confirm that the expected music is audible on the correct event. If you use a watchdog or automatic restart policy, test it with each encoder job rather than assuming a process restart restores the correct feed.

Protect stream keys and music rights

  • Keep stream keys out of public scripts, repositories, screenshots, and logs. Anyone with a key may be able to send video to its associated stream.
  • If a key is exposed, treat it as an account-security issue: replace or rotate it through YouTube Studio, update only the matching encoder configuration, and verify that the intended feed reconnects.
  • Make sure you have the rights and permissions needed for every track. YouTube requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; a VPS, encoder, or stream key does not grant music rights.
  • Do not assume a playlist or a long-standing radio feed is exempt from copyright or other platform policies.

Plan for archives separately

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived when ended. That statement does not establish that an uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will be fully archived. If a complete replay is important, record the source independently or plan periodic event endings and verify the resulting archive rather than relying on one continuous broadcast.

Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The two events show the same program, or the feeds are swapped The outputs use the wrong stream URL/key mapping, or a shared incoming stream was mistaken for two different feeds. Compare each encoder’s source, server URL, and key with its intended event configuration; use separate incoming feeds for distinct programs.
YouTube reports low bitrate or unstable ingestion The output bitrate is unsuitable for the selected profile, or the VPS/network cannot sustain both outputs. Check each feed’s configured CBR and YouTube health status; test sustained outbound capacity with both jobs running and allow for overhead.
Video or audio does not match the intended profile Codec, frame rate, keyframe interval, or audio configuration differs from the chosen supported settings. Review the encoder settings against YouTube’s current recommendations and verify the actual incoming feed in Live Control Room.
One process is alive but its stream is unhealthy The encoder is running while the output is stalled, missing audio, or otherwise failing ingestion. Check YouTube’s health indicator for that feed and its audible output; do not use process status as the only monitor.
Stream fails after a key was exposed or changed The stored key no longer matches, or an unauthorized sender is using the exposed key. Secure or rotate the affected key in YouTube Studio, update the matching job, and confirm the correct event receives the feed.
