Whether one particular Mac mini and encoder setup can sustain both streams continuously is not established by Apple’s specifications: plan bandwidth from both bitrates, then validate the exact hardware, software, settings, and network with a long simultaneous test before relying on unattended operation.
What a two-stream setup requires
The streams must be independent outputs, not simply one YouTube event viewed in two places. Create two YouTube Live events in Live Control Room; configure each encoder output with the destination URL and stream key for its matching event. The encoder must produce both outputs at once, using separate encoder instances or a supported multi-output arrangement. The available official sources do not verify a particular macOS application or plugin for this workflow, so confirm that your chosen software supports it before configuring the Mac.

Set up both YouTube Live events securely
- Identify the workload. Record the Mac mini model and memory, macOS version, encoder software, intended resolution and frame rate for each output, codec, and target bitrate. These details are necessary to make a meaningful capacity test.
- Create two live events. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule each event. Copy each event’s stream URL and stream key to the corresponding encoder output; do not swap or reuse destinations accidentally.
- Protect the keys. Treat stream keys as credentials. Keep them out of screenshots, public instructions, and shared configuration files. Limit access to whoever needs to operate the stream.
- Configure the encoder outputs. Set the codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and destination independently for each event. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest and lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video options; choose settings using the current guidance for the codec and output format you actually use.
- Test before scheduling continuous operation. Start both outputs simultaneously and verify that each appears in the correct event, with working audio and video, before making either stream public or relying on it unattended.
Choose YouTube encoder settings for each output
YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 (HEVC) or AV1 video, and frame rates up to 60 fps. For each output, use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. Select the bitrate from YouTube’s table for that output’s codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than applying a single number to all configurations.

For scale, YouTube’s H.264 table recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Those are recommendations for the stated codec and format, not a guarantee of image quality or network stability. Two streams with different formats may have different targets.
Test with movement and audio resembling the real broadcast. A static title screen can impose a different encoding workload than gameplay with frequent motion, overlays, and active audio.

Calculate the upload speed for two streams
Add the target bitrates of both outputs to find the combined target. YouTube’s simulstream example uses 6 Mbps for one stream and 4 Mbps for another: 10 Mbps combined. YouTube suggests planning for upload speed 1.5 to 2 times the combined target—15–20 Mbps for that example—to improve stability, especially on a shared connection. This is platform guidance, not a guarantee against congestion, outages, or inconsistent service. See YouTube’s simulstream guidance.
- Write down each stream’s target bitrate in Mbps.
- Add the two targets. For example, 6 Mbps + 4 Mbps = 10 Mbps combined.
- Multiply the combined target by 1.5 and by 2 to get YouTube’s suggested upload-speed planning range: 15–20 Mbps in the example.
- Check actual upload performance during a simultaneous test and account for other devices and applications sharing the connection. A headline speed from an internet plan does not show how the connection behaves under your real load.
YouTube also offers streaming tips. Your own measurements during representative use are essential because network capacity can vary with time and shared traffic.

Can a Mac mini handle two continuous encodes?
Apple’s specifications for the 2024 Mac mini list M4 and M4 Pro configurations and a hardware video encode engine. That establishes the presence of encoding hardware; it does not state how many simultaneous real-time outputs the machine can encode, certify any specific resolution or frame rate for two streams, or promise 24/7 uptime.
No benchmark for two simultaneous 24/7 YouTube streams on a specific Mac mini configuration is established here, and no such test was performed for this article. Do not infer that two encodes will work at any settings simply because a hardware encoder is present. Capacity can depend on the model and memory, resolution, frame rate, codec and encoder implementation, whether the outputs require separate encoding passes, scene and overlay complexity, audio processing, other apps, and network and power reliability.

Burn in the complete setup before going unattended
Run both streams simultaneously for an extended period under conditions close to the intended broadcast. There is no universal test duration established by the cited sources; choose one long enough to observe the workload and operating conditions you expect, rather than treating a brief successful start as proof of continuous reliability.
- Use the real resolutions, frame rates, codecs, bitrates, scenes, overlays, and audio sources.
- Connect the peripherals and run the other applications that will normally be in use.
- Monitor encoder load, dropped frames, temperature, network behavior, and each event’s YouTube stream-health indicators and messages.
- Check both outputs independently: a healthy first stream does not prove the second is healthy.
- Repeat at a time and on a connection representative of actual use, including normal shared-network activity where applicable.
YouTube advises checking stream health and messages during an event, and testing with representative movement and audio. A successful burn-in increases confidence in the tested configuration; it cannot guarantee that a future network, power, software, or hardware failure will not interrupt service.

Plan recovery for interruptions
A 24/7 setup needs an operator plan for an output that stops, a YouTube ingest interruption, loss of network access, or a Mac restart. Decide how you will notice a problem, restart the affected encoder or Mac, restore network access, and confirm both events are live again. Keep stream keys secure during recovery and make sure anyone responsible knows which key and destination belong to each output. The cited YouTube guidance does not specify a complete automatic recovery design for this Mac mini workflow.
