Run two separate playout processes on the VPS—one per prerecorded program—and send each to its own YouTube event’s ingest URL and stream key. Create and schedule both events in YouTube Studio first, then start the matching feeds and verify each in Live Control Room. YouTube’s published limits allow up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key, with both limits applying at once, so two feeds are within those stated limits. How the two-stream setup works
A YouTube broadcast is the event viewers watch; a stream is the incoming encoder feed. For two different prerecorded programs running at the same time, create two event/feed combinations and run a separate playout process for each. Match program A to event A’s ingest settings and program B to event B’s settings.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API describes a special case in which multiple broadcasts can use one incoming stream when they carry the same content. That is not the usual arrangement for two different shows: independent feeds make it easier to use different files, event details, stream keys, output settings, and restart behavior. 1. Create two YouTube events and collect their ingest details
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live and schedule the first event. Set its title, description, visibility, and planned start time.
- Repeat for the second program. You may reuse event settings, but check that each event is associated with the intended incoming feed.
- In Live Control Room, find and securely record the server URL and stream key for each event. Treat stream keys like passwords: do not put them in public scripts, repositories, screenshots, or logs.
- Keep a private mapping of each file to its event and ingest settings. Before starting, confirm the mapping so a feed does not appear under the wrong event.

2. Prepare one playout process per program
Choose FFmpeg for file-based automation
FFmpeg can read a media file in real time, loop it, and send the output to an RTMP or RTMPS destination. A basic pattern uses -re to read at the file’s rate and -stream_loop -1 to repeat the input. The following is a template, not a tested command for your particular VPS or files. Replace the placeholders and select encoding options appropriate to the media and YouTube’s current ingest settings:

-f flv "rtmps://INGEST-URL/STREAM-KEY"Run a second command for program B, changing the input file and using event B’s matching ingest URL and key. Do not copy a key into a shared shell history or a script that other users can read; a protected configuration file or secret manager is safer. Avoid printing full destination URLs in routine logs.

The example’s 6,000-kbps video bitrate is merely a placeholder value, not a universal recommendation. The -g 120 keyframe interval corresponds to two seconds only at 60 fps; calculate the interval for the selected frame rate. If the media already has compatible video and audio streams, stream-copying may avoid encoding load, but it only works if the streams meet the ingest requirements. Otherwise encode to suitable output settings. The VPS guide’s FFmpeg example illustrates the general pattern; it is not a test of this configuration.
OBS is an alternative, but plan for the desktop
OBS can play media and send a stream, but it is a graphical production application. On a headless VPS, that adds desktop and session management compared with an automated FFmpeg process. If you choose OBS, configure two independent output jobs using the correct event settings and ensure the application, desktop session, and media remain available after logout or a server restart.

3. Set encoder output and provision the VPS
Use settings that match each event
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport; it lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate, a recommended two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. For one specific reference point, YouTube’s current table recommends 6 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p60. Its recommendation is not a formula for server capacity; select each feed’s bitrate for its own resolution, frame rate, codec, and quality needs.

Budget for both outputs together
- Network: the VPS must sustain the combined target upload rates for both feeds, plus network overhead. Check provider bandwidth limits as well as the advertised port speed.
- CPU: two software re-encodes can demand substantially more CPU than two stream-copy jobs. Actual load depends on the files, output settings, and encoder options.
- Trial run: test both programs concurrently using the intended settings. Watch CPU load, outbound traffic, process logs, and each YouTube preview; a test of one stream alone does not confirm capacity for two.
- Storage and access: make both source files available to the processes and ensure the account running them can read the files and configuration. Leave enough local storage for any logs or temporary files your setup creates.
There is no universal CPU or RAM size for this workload: requirements depend on media codecs and resolution, output bitrate, and whether the VPS encodes or copies streams. Published sizing tables from an individual hosting guide are provider-specific claims, not guaranteed recommendations for every VPS.

- Start the process for program A and confirm that event A shows its expected video and audio preview in Live Control Room.
- Start program B and verify its preview separately. Confirm that each event receives the intended program, not merely that both FFmpeg processes are running.
- For scheduled streams, follow YouTube’s workflow: connect the encoder, wait for the preview, then select Go live when ready.
- Monitor both events’ stream health and the VPS logs while they run. If one feed fails, diagnose it independently; a healthy second process does not establish that the first event is receiving a valid signal.
A process supervisor such as systemd can restart a crashed process, but restarting cannot fix a wrong key, unsupported media format, insufficient bandwidth, or an event that is in the wrong platform state. Treat recovery automation as one layer of reliability, not a substitute for checking the event and feed.

5. End the streams and account for archiving
Stop each playout process intentionally, then end its corresponding event in Live Control Room. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived in the documented encoder workflow. Do not assume that a longer continuous broadcast will be archived as one video under that guidance; check the behavior for the specific event and plan accordingly. Prerecorded content remains subject to YouTube’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and rights rules. Use material your channel is authorized to broadcast, including any music, game footage, and other third-party elements. Troubleshooting two simultaneous feeds
