Yes—you can send two simultaneous YouTube live outputs from one Azure VM if your encoder can produce and deliver both, your channel and stream key are within YouTube’s active-stream limits, and the VM’s encoding and network capacity are sufficient. For two separate events, create both in YouTube Live Control Room and map each output to the correct event destination and stream key. If you mean one program shown in landscape and vertical formats, YouTube’s dual-stream feature may be a better fit.
First decide what “two streams” means
There are two different setups that are easy to confuse. The steps and capacity requirements differ, so choose the one that matches your broadcast before configuring the VM.
Two independent live events
Use this when you want separate event pages, programs, feeds, or channels—for example, two different gameplay broadcasts. Create both events in YouTube Live Control Room. Your encoder must send each intended feed to the matching event’s stream URL and key. If both events use the same feed, you still need an encoder configuration that sends that output to both destinations.
One production in landscape and vertical formats
If you want one production available in horizontal and vertical formats, YouTube documents a built-in dual-stream mode. For third-party encoder use, YouTube’s instructions describe selecting a second stream key for the vertical output and checking that each format is sent to its corresponding key. The vertical format cannot be added after the stream has started, so enable and configure it beforehand.

Check YouTube’s simultaneous-stream limits
YouTube Help states that a channel can have up to 10 active streams and a stream key can be used for up to 3 active streams. Both limits apply at once. Two events fit within those stated ceilings only if there is capacity remaining on the channel and on whichever key or keys you use. The accessed YouTube Help pages do not display a publication year; these limits were checked on October 3, 2026.
For separate events, create each event in Live Control Room and use its intended stream destination and key in the encoder. YouTube describes a stream key as the credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed; treat it like a password, not public setup information.

Configure two independent events from one VM
- Create both events. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule each event. Check each event’s privacy, metadata, and intended destination before proceeding.
- Collect the ingestion details. For each event, copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Keep them private. Label the details clearly so that the first encoder output cannot accidentally be pointed at the second event.
- Set up two encoder outputs. Use an encoder configuration that supports sending two outputs simultaneously. Map output one to event one’s URL and key, and output two to event two’s URL and key. If you need different programs, configure the corresponding feed for each output; duplicating one output will send the same program twice, not create two independent productions.
- Set and total the bitrates. Choose a bitrate for each output, then add them to calculate the combined outbound target. Reserve additional upload capacity as described below rather than sizing the VM connection to the sum alone.
- Test both destinations before the broadcast. Confirm each YouTube preview receives the intended picture and audio, and watch both events’ stream-health indicators while both outputs are running. Test with representative motion and audio, not just a static desktop.
- Start the events and monitor them separately. Check the stream-health status for each event during the live session. One output can have a problem even while the other remains healthy.
YouTube’s setup guidance covers creating a stream and providing its URL and key to an encoder. It does not certify a particular third-party multi-output encoder or an Azure-specific configuration. Verify the current documentation for the exact encoder build you plan to run.
Choose encoder settings and calculate bandwidth
YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. Its recommended bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate. The values below are YouTube’s listed recommendations, not guarantees of what a particular VM or network route can sustain.

| Example output | H.264 recommended bitrate | AV1/H.265 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
Use the applicable recommendation for each output’s codec, resolution, and frame rate. Add the outputs together, then aim for upload capacity 1.5 to 2 times that combined target. YouTube Help gives a 10 Mbps combined target as an example requiring 15–20 Mbps upload capacity. These recommendations and example are from YouTube Help pages whose publication year is not displayed; they were checked on October 3, 2026.
- Example calculation: if the two selected targets are 17 Mbps and 14 Mbps, their combined target is 31 Mbps. Applying YouTube’s 1.5–2× planning margin gives an upload-capacity target of 46.5–62 Mbps.
- Measure the actual outbound path: the VM’s published maximum network bandwidth is not a promise of sustained throughput. Test the exact VM, region, network configuration, and encoder workload with both outputs active.
What an Azure VM specification can—and cannot—tell you
Microsoft documents NVadsA10 v5 as a GPU-optimized Azure VM family and lists GPU-accelerated rendering and remote-frame encoding support in the Azure Virtual Desktop context. Its size page lists configurations from fractional A10 GPU allocations to full GPUs, along with expected maximum network bandwidth by size. Microsoft cautions that these network figures are ceilings rather than guarantees; actual throughput can depend on congestion, workload, and network configuration.

Those specifications can help shortlist candidates, but they do not establish a validated VM size for two YouTube encodes. Azure Virtual Desktop graphics documentation is not proof that a particular operating-system image, driver, and streaming-encoder build can use a VM’s hardware encoder. Confirm compatibility for your exact deployment. If hardware encoding is unavailable, measure whether the CPU can encode both outputs at the required settings. No tested VM size or benchmark is established here.
Run a preflight test before going live
- Verify both event pages are configured as intended and that each preview shows the correct feed.
- Check that audio is present and routed correctly on both outputs.
- Run both outputs together using representative motion and audio, then observe stream health and outbound network use.
- Confirm the encoder is using RTMPS, CBR, and the intended keyframe interval.
- Check that actual available outbound capacity leaves the recommended margin above the combined bitrate.
- Keep the stream keys private and confirm the encoder is pointed at the correct event before starting.
Troubleshooting two simultaneous outputs
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| One event receives the wrong program | The encoder output is mapped to the wrong event URL or key, or both outputs use the same source unintentionally. | Compare each output’s source, destination URL, and key with the intended event in Live Control Room. |
| Both streams buffer, disconnect, or show poor health when started together | Combined outbound demand may exceed sustainable throughput, or the network may be unstable. | Recalculate the combined bitrate, test the real VM route under both outputs, and preserve YouTube’s 1.5–2× upload-capacity margin. |
| One output fails while the other works | That output may have a separate destination, key, encoder, or network configuration problem. | Inspect that event’s preview and health status, then verify its encoder mapping and credentials independently. |
| Encoder cannot use GPU encoding | The VM image, driver, encoder build, or selected hardware may not support the expected encoder path. | Check compatibility for the exact deployment; if hardware encoding is unavailable, test CPU capacity with both outputs active. |
| YouTube does not receive a vertical output | The dual-stream configuration may be incomplete or the vertical stream may not have been enabled before starting. | Check YouTube’s dual-stream setup and confirm each format is sent to its corresponding key before beginning the stream. |
| A stream key may have been exposed | Anyone with the key may be able to use the stream destination. | Reset the key in Live Control Room and replace it in the encoder before resuming. |
Protect keys and check content rights
Do not put stream keys in public screenshots, shared configuration files, or other places viewers can access. If a key is compromised, YouTube says an owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room; update the matching encoder configuration afterward.

For game broadcasts, confirm that you have the rights needed for the game footage and any music or other audio in the program. Copyright compliance and eligibility for monetization are separate questions; do not assume that having permission for one automatically settles the other. Check YouTube’s current rules and any relevant game publisher terms before scheduling an event.
