To broadcast continuously, you also need an encoder that sends your prepared video and audio to YouTube, plus a plan to keep the encoder, source, and internet connection operating and monitored.
Before you schedule: check eligibility and prepare the stream
- Your channel must be verified and have had no livestreaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube’s current general guidance also requires a person to be at least 16 to livestream. See YouTube’s livestreaming requirements.
- Prepare the visual and audio feed you intend to broadcast, and confirm you have the rights needed to livestream every component.
- Choose an encoder—software or hardware—that can send your prepared feed to YouTube and remain running for the intended period.
- Plan for sustained upload bandwidth, monitoring, and recovery if the encoder, feed, or connection fails. A backup encoder can be part of that plan, but test it; failover is not guaranteed to be seamless.
Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.
- Choose to create a new stream or reuse settings from a previous one. Enter the title and description, choose visibility, and set the date and time. If reusing settings, review the event metadata and stream key before publishing.
- Publish the scheduled event and share its watch page. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, where viewers can select Notify me. Scheduling can help viewers find the event and set reminders; it does not start the video feed.
Connect an encoder and start the broadcast
- In Live Control Room, locate the stream’s YouTube Live server URL and stream key.
- In your encoder, enter the server URL and stream key, then select the prepared video and audio source. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the connection process.
- Start sending the encoder feed before the scheduled start. YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event.
- Wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check that the picture and audio are correct and review stream health before selecting Go live at the scheduled time.
- To end the event, select End Stream in Live Control Room, then stop sending the feed from your encoder.
Configure the encoder for a stable feed
YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP/RTMPS settings including H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe frequency. Follow the current settings guidance for your chosen resolution and frame rate rather than guessing a bitrate. YouTube also documents HLS for supported cases; HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments instead of a continuous stream. Check the current YouTube encoder settings for protocol and video configuration details.
Software encoders are supported. YouTube describes professional-grade hardware encoders as appropriate for higher-production broadcasts, but a mostly static meditation visual does not automatically require dedicated hardware. Choose based on production needs, continuous-operation requirements, and who will monitor the stream—not on a presumption that one encoder type is best for every channel.
What “24/7” requires beyond scheduling
A scheduled event is an upcoming broadcast with a start time; it is not a native automatic, indefinite broadcast mode. For a continuous channel, the encoder, video and audio source, network, and monitoring arrangement all need to keep working. YouTube recommends testing the setup, monitoring stream health and audio/video quality, checking playback on the watch page and mobile, and planning upload bandwidth with headroom. Do not assume that one scheduled event will create one archived file for an uninterrupted day-long stream. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement does not establish an automatic archive strategy for a longer continuous broadcast. Decide separately how you will handle recordings and archives, and verify the result in your channel after a broadcast.
Check music, visuals, and YouTube rules
Before going live, make sure you have the necessary rights to use every recording in a livestream, including rights involving artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. The fact that audio is described as “royalty-free,” or that a stream is for meditation, does not by itself establish that you have livestream rights in every territory. Confirm the license terms for each sound recording and visual, and comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and applicable laws. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service alongside the rights granted by your licensors.

Troubleshoot common scheduling and streaming problems
- The scheduled event exists, but nothing appears on the watch page: Scheduling creates the event, not the feed. Connect and start the encoder, wait for the Live Control Room preview, then start the event there.
- The preview does not appear: Check that the encoder is running, the correct YouTube Live server URL and stream key are entered, and the selected source is producing audio and video. If the key may be wrong or exposed, verify or reset it in Studio.
- Viewers report buffering or poor quality: Check Live Control Room stream health and the connection’s sustained upload capacity. YouTube recommends bandwidth headroom and ongoing monitoring; a speed test alone does not guarantee a stable continuous feed.
- The broadcast stops during a long run: Check the encoder, source playback, power, and network, then follow your tested recovery procedure. A backup encoder may reduce recovery time, but YouTube does not guarantee a seamless handoff.
- The archive is missing or shorter than expected: YouTube’s automatic-archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. For a longer continuous event, do not rely on that statement as a promise of a single complete archive; check the channel’s recordings and use a separate recording plan if needed.
- Audio or visuals are muted, blocked, or challenged: Recheck the livestream rights for each track and visual, including territory and platform use. Replace material you cannot clear before restarting.
