How to Schedule a 24/7 Radio Livestream on YouTube

To schedule a 24/7 radio livestream on YouTube, create a scheduled encoder event in YouTube Studio’s Go Live workflow, then send it a continuous audio feed from an encoder. Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; it does not generate or maintain the radio signal. For a station that must stay live, the encoder and its connection need to keep running—or you can use a cloud service such as StreamNeo to play uploaded audio from the cloud.

Decide what “24/7” should look like to listeners

YouTube distinguishes the scheduled broadcast from the stream sent to it. The broadcast is the event and watch page; the stream is the incoming feed from your encoder. A broadcast binds to a stream, and a stream can be reused for multiple broadcasts. YouTube’s API guide describes a channel that carries a continuous 24/7 feed while also creating a separate broadcast for an interview (YouTube Live Streaming API: Broadcasts).

  • One persistent station page: Use a continuous feed when you want listeners to return to the same ongoing station broadcast.
  • Separate pages for shows: Schedule individual broadcasts when each program needs its own event page, promotion, or replay plan.
  • Both: Keep a station feed running and schedule occasional show broadcasts separately if that suits your programming.

YouTube documents both the continuous-feed use case and separate broadcasts, but does not prescribe a single arrangement for every station. Choose based on whether one stable station URL, show-specific pages and notifications, or replay archives matter most.

How to schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio

  1. Check channel readiness and open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live, then choose the encoder workflow. YouTube’s guide covers creating and scheduling an encoder stream: Schedule a live stream. If the channel has not streamed before, YouTube may require live-streaming access to be enabled before you can proceed.
  2. Create the scheduled event. Enter the title, scheduled start time and privacy setting. Choose the privacy that matches your intended audience, and check it before starting. These are core broadcast details in YouTube’s documentation (Create a broadcast).
  3. Copy the stream settings into your encoder. In Live Control Room, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. The key is a credential: YouTube says stream keys are like your stream’s password and address. Do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the feed. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder (Create a live stream with an encoder).
  4. Test privately before going public. Send a test feed and check the preview, audio and video. YouTube’s API lifecycle guidance says a private test phase requires monitor-stream preview enabled and auto-start disabled (Broadcast lifecycle). YouTube also recommends previewing and confirming access through channel and watch pages (Live streaming tips).
  5. Start the encoder and confirm the incoming feed. Wait for Live Control Room to show that it is receiving the feed and review the preview or stream health before starting the scheduled event. Auto-start can control whether an incoming encoder feed starts the broadcast; auto-stop can control whether it ends when the feed stops. Neither setting supplies a feed or keeps an encoder running (Create a live stream with an encoder).
  6. Keep watch while it is live. Check that the audio remains present and that the incoming feed has not stopped. YouTube recommends continuously monitoring audio and video during a live stream (Live streaming tips).

Keep the station feed running continuously

The scheduled start time only describes when the broadcast is meant to begin. Your encoder still has to send audio to YouTube for the station to remain live. With a do-it-yourself setup, that means maintaining the encoder, its source playlist or program feed, power and internet connection, and monitoring the stream for interruptions. A computer running a livestream encoder is one possible setup; YouTube’s cited guidance does not specify a required computer model or minimum hardware.

For radio, YouTube’s live settings guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio and explains that YouTube transcodes incoming streams for viewer devices. It does not give a radio-specific bitrate prescription, so use the current recommendations on YouTube’s live streaming settings page rather than guessing one. Lower latency can help creators interacting with an audience, but YouTube notes it is less important when there is no audience interaction; a music or radio feed can prioritize stable playback over an unnecessary low-latency target. Decide whether to enable DVR: it lets viewers pause and rewind during the stream (Live streaming tips).

Replays and archives

YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived (Archive live streams; access verified October 3, 2026). Do not rely on a single 24/7 session to produce a complete automatic archive. If listeners need replays, plan separate recordings or shorter broadcast segments and check YouTube’s current archive behavior.

Music rights

Before broadcasting music, make sure you have the rights or licenses needed for the tracks and territories you plan to reach. A scheduled page and a continuous encoder do not grant permission to use copyrighted recordings. YouTube’s copyright rules and detection systems can affect a live stream; review its current copyright guidance before programming music.

Ads and eligibility

YouTube offers ad and mid-roll controls, but automated ads require the channel to be eligible for monetization. A 24/7 radio stream is not automatically eligible and is not guaranteed to serve ads. Check the current controls and channel eligibility in YouTube Studio or the Live Streaming API documentation.

When API scheduling makes sense

YouTube Studio is the direct manual path for creating a scheduled event. Developers who need repeatable scheduling or integration can use the YouTube Live Streaming API: create a broadcast with liveBroadcasts.insert, create a live stream with ingestion settings, bind the broadcast to that stream, then manage its testing, live and completed states. These are separate resources and lifecycle steps, so API automation takes more setup than creating an event in Studio (Insert a broadcast; Live streams; Broadcast lifecycle).

Troubleshoot common problems

  • The scheduled page exists, but nothing is playing: Scheduling created the broadcast, not its audio feed. Start the encoder and confirm it is sending to the matching YouTube server URL and stream key.
  • The encoder is sending, but the event has not started: Check the Live Control Room preview and the event’s start and privacy settings. Review whether auto-start is enabled or whether you need to start the broadcast manually.
  • The preview is blank or audio is missing: Check that the encoder is using the correct input and YouTube ingestion settings, then preview again. Confirm audio is present at the encoder before expecting it in the watch page.
  • The stream stops unexpectedly: Check the encoder process, power, source playlist and internet connection. Restart the feed and confirm recovery in Live Control Room; auto-stop and auto-start behavior depends on the settings you chose.
  • The stream key may have been exposed: Reset it in Live Control Room, then replace the old key in the encoder. Treat the new key as confidential.
  • A 24-hour broadcast has no complete replay: A single session longer than 12 hours is outside the automatic-archive condition stated in YouTube Help. Use planned recordings or separate shorter broadcasts if a replay is important.
