You can schedule the YouTube event and set YouTube to start it when an encoder feed arrives—but scheduling does not start StreamVoodoo, OBS, vMix, or the computer running them. For an unattended start, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, enable Auto-start if available, and separately arrange for your encoder chain to begin sending video. Verify the current controls on your channel and rehearse the complete setup before relying on it.
What “start automatically” means
- Scheduled stream: A future YouTube event with a page viewers can visit and, where available, a reminder they can request. Scheduling promotes the event; it does not launch your production tools.
- YouTube Auto-start: An event setting that lets YouTube start the scheduled broadcast when it receives an encoder feed. The encoder still has to begin sending video.
- Timed production launch: A separate step that starts StreamVoodoo’s room and the production switcher or encoder at the right time. YouTube’s event schedule does not perform this step.
YouTube’s documented encoder workflow includes waiting for the preview and clicking Go live. Because the controls and behavior may depend on the current event setup, check what your channel displays rather than assuming Auto-start will bypass every confirmation.
Schedule the YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open Manage → Schedule stream.
- Choose whether to reuse previous settings or create a new event. Enter the title and other event details, scheduled time, and privacy choice.
- Open the event settings and check Auto-start. If you reuse stream settings, YouTube says the Auto-start and Auto-stop selections are copied too, so verify both toggles for this event rather than assuming they match your intention.
- Check the event’s visibility and privacy setting. YouTube’s defaults differ by age: for users aged 13–17, the default is private; for users 18 or older, it is public. You can change the setting.
A scheduled event can give viewers a place to find the stream before it begins and request a reminder. It is useful for promotion, but it is not a timer for third-party software.
Connect StreamVoodoo to YouTube through an encoder
- In YouTube Studio’s live control room, copy the stream URL and stream key for the scheduled event.
- In your encoder, such as OBS or vMix, enter the YouTube connection details. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it in screenshots or public documents. Reset it if you think it has been exposed.
- Bring the StreamVoodoo room’s video feeds into the production switcher or encoder. StreamVoodoo’s FAQ describes using OBS or vMix to bring room feeds into a broadcast.
- Confirm that the encoder is configured to send the intended video and audio to YouTube. Keep the room, switcher or encoder, computer, and network available for the planned broadcast.
Arrange a separate timed launch
For an unattended start, you must separately arrange for the production chain to begin sending its feed at the scheduled time. YouTube documents starting a stream from the encoder; it does not say that scheduling the YouTube event starts that third-party encoder. Likewise, the StreamVoodoo FAQ reviewed describes room feeds and switcher use but does not document a timed-start control. That does not establish whether another StreamVoodoo setup or version offers one.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Choose how the encoder or the computer and process running it will be started at the intended time. Set this up outside the YouTube event scheduler.
- Check that the StreamVoodoo room will be available and that its feeds reach the switcher or encoder without someone having to intervene.
- Rehearse the complete chain at a suitable time: room availability, production output, encoder feed, YouTube event settings, and the preview/Go live controls currently shown in your channel.
- At broadcast time, check the YouTube event preview and confirm whether the current setup starts automatically or still requires you to select Go live.
Do not promise yourself an unattended broadcast until the full chain has been tested. A scheduled event can be ready while the room, encoder, computer, or network is not.
Check audio and stream duration
- If you use StreamVoodoo Studio Sound, StreamVoodoo recommends headphones to reduce speaker audio feeding back into the microphone. Headphones help with audio monitoring; they do not automate the start.
- YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not remove the need to end or manage a longer stream appropriately.
Troubleshoot a scheduled stream that does not start
| What you see | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The event time has passed, but no broadcast starts. | The encoder may not be sending a feed. A YouTube schedule does not launch the encoder. | Check the timed launch, computer power and sleep state, network, and whether the encoder process is running. |
| The encoder is running, but YouTube is not receiving the expected feed. | The stream URL or key may be incorrect, or the production output may not be reaching the encoder. | Check the YouTube connection details and the path from the StreamVoodoo room through OBS or vMix to the encoder output. Keep the key private; reset it if compromised. |
| YouTube shows a preview or asks for confirmation. | The current event may still require a manual confirmation, even though Auto-start is enabled. | Check the controls shown in YouTube Studio and select Go live if required. Rehearse this behavior before planning an unattended start. |
| A reused event behaves differently than expected. | Reused settings can carry over old Auto-start and Auto-stop selections. | Open that event’s settings and verify both toggles. |
| The broadcast starts, but viewers cannot see the event as expected. | The event’s privacy or visibility setting may not be what you intended. | Check the event setting in YouTube Studio; do not assume the default is public. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded video playing on a YouTube channel, rather than broadcast a live StreamVoodoo room, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It runs from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos on YouTube, not live camera or StreamVoodoo room feeds. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
