YouTube’s Live Redirect can send viewers from a finished live stream to one selected Premiere, but its documented workflow does not automatically hand viewers from a live playlist to a playlist of multiple Premieres. For a continuous 24/7 prerecorded channel, an encoder or streaming service must keep sending the program to YouTube; set up the Premiere first, then configure the live stream’s redirect to that one destination. End the live feed before the Premiere’s scheduled start.
What YouTube will—and will not—schedule for you
A scheduled live event and the video feed shown in it are separate things. YouTube Studio creates and schedules the event; an encoder or streaming service sends the audio and video to YouTube using the server URL and stream key. The YouTube Live Streaming API also distinguishes a live event (a liveBroadcast) from the transmitted content (a liveStream) that can be bound to it.
- Live Redirect: YouTube Help describes sending viewers from a finished live stream to a Premiere or another live stream. The destination is one selected video.
- Playlists: A playlist can organize videos for viewers, but the reviewed Live Redirect instructions do not document an automatic handoff to a playlist of multiple Premieres, a sequence of chained redirects, or a playlist acting as the continuous live feed.
- Continuous broadcast: To keep prerecorded programming live around the clock, a separate encoder or service must transmit that feed to the scheduled YouTube event.
So if “premiere playlist” means several Premieres playing one after another automatically after the live playlist, do not rely on Live Redirect alone. The documented method covers one destination Premiere. You can use a continuous encoder-fed program for the 24/7 broadcast, then handle any transition to a Premiere as a separate redirect.
Set up one live stream followed by one Premiere
- Schedule the Premiere first. Create the Premiere and confirm that the video is eligible and its scheduled time is correct. YouTube recommends creating the destination Premiere before setting up Live Redirect.
- Create or schedule the source live event. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream. Reuse prior settings or create new ones as appropriate. Scheduling creates the event page; it does not by itself provide the video feed.
- Connect the encoder or service. Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the tool sending the feed. Start its output and check the preview in Live Control Room. Click Go live when ready unless you have configured and verified auto-start for that stream. Treat the stream key like a password: it allows an encoder to send content to your channel, so do not share it publicly.
- Choose the redirect destination. In the source stream’s editing controls in YouTube Studio’s Live videos/Content area, or from Live Control Room, select the Premiere as the Live Redirect destination and save. The destination needs to exist before you select it.
- End the source live stream before the Premiere begins. YouTube’s guidance says the Premiere starts after the live stream ends and uses the same watch page. Do not end the feed after the Premiere’s scheduled start and expect the documented redirect timing to be the same.
- Tell viewers to stay on the watch page. Explain that the Premiere should autoplay and that viewers should remain on the page rather than leave or refresh. YouTube Help estimates the screen reload after the transition at about two seconds; allow for that brief pause.
How to make the 24/7 feed
The live event needs a source that continues to send the program. YouTube’s encoder guide covers connecting an encoder with the server URL and stream key and lists cloud-based 24/7 streaming tools, including Gyre and Upstream. It also names the AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder and describes its PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media and streaming it to YouTube Live. These are examples listed by YouTube, not proof that any one option supports a particular chain of multiple Premieres; check the current workflow and suitability before relying on one.

Choose an operating model
| Approach | What it means | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder or software | Your own computer or encoder sends the feed to YouTube, and you maintain the setup and connection. | Confirm it can keep the intended prerecorded program running and that someone can respond if the feed stops. |
| Cloud streaming service | A hosted service sends the prerecorded feed rather than relying on your local computer to remain online. | Confirm scheduling, recovery behavior, storage and support for your exact transition plan. YouTube’s listed examples do not establish multi-Premiere handoff support. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | A physical encoder handles the feed. YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus and describes PlayToStream for scheduled prerecorded media. | Check current availability, firmware behavior and whether its scheduling matches your intended program and handoff. |
There is no comparative uptime or reliability data in the cited YouTube material, so a reliability ranking between these approaches would not be justified. In every case, test the start, stop and redirect sequence before announcing it to viewers.
Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is a material constraint for a broadcast described as 24/7: do not assume YouTube will archive a longer continuous stream as one uninterrupted video under the same rule. Decide how you will handle the archive and any needed recording separately from the live feed.

Copyright, permissions and monetization checks
- Use only video, music, artwork and other material you own or have permission to stream. A playlist or Premiere format does not grant rights to the content.
- Check YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream requirements for the material and territory involved. Rights restrictions can affect whether content is available or can remain live.
- If monetization matters, review YouTube’s current monetization policies separately. Permission to stream a work and eligibility to monetize a channel are distinct questions; do not assume that repeating prerecorded material automatically qualifies.
- Set the audience and visibility details accurately when creating each event, and make clear to viewers whether they are watching the live feed or the scheduled Premiere.
Troubleshooting the handoff and continuous feed
The Premiere does not appear as a redirect destination
Check that the Premiere has been created and scheduled first, then reopen the source live stream’s redirect settings and save the selected destination. The documented workflow depends on an existing destination video.
The event page exists but shows no program
Scheduling an event does not send video. Check that the encoder or service is configured with the correct server URL and stream key, is actively transmitting, and that the Live Control Room preview receives the feed. Start the event in Studio when needed.

Viewers do not see the Premiere immediately
Tell viewers to remain on the same watch page and allow a short reload; YouTube Help gives about two seconds as an estimate. Confirm that the source stream ended before the Premiere’s scheduled start. The estimate is not a guarantee of identical behavior for every viewer or connection.
The live stream ends but a playlist of Premieres does not begin
That is outside the documented single-video Live Redirect flow. Select one Premiere as the destination, or use an encoder/service to send a continuous program feed. Do not present a playlist as an automatic queue unless you have separately verified a current feature that does this.

The 24/7 stream is not archived as expected
Check the stream duration against YouTube’s documented automatic-archive rule for streams under 12 hours. A longer broadcast should not be assumed to become one uninterrupted archive under that rule.
