How to Schedule a YouTube Live Stream to Start Automatically Every Day

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

YouTube Studio can schedule a live event and automatically start its broadcast when an encoder begins sending video. It does not provide a built-in daily recurrence that also starts the encoder. To go live at the same time every day, schedule each event yourself or create recurring events through YouTube’s API, and separately arrange for an encoder to send the feed at each scheduled time.

What YouTube’s “auto-start” actually does

YouTube’s auto-start setting controls what happens after an encoder connects and starts sending a feed. With the setting enabled, the broadcast can go live in response to that incoming feed; it does not turn on a computer, launch streaming software, start a media file, or run on a daily clock. YouTube describes the setting this way: “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.

That leaves two separate jobs: create or manage an event for each day, then make sure an encoder sends video at the right time. Auto-stop can stop a broadcast after the encoder stops, depending on the setting and platform behavior, but it does not schedule the next day’s encoder run.

Set up a scheduled YouTube Live event

1. Confirm the channel can stream

Live streaming must be enabled for the channel. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder guidance. Check eligibility well before the first planned broadcast: YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming and YouTube Help: Live stream with an encoder.

3. Connect an encoder and handle the stream key safely

In the encoder, enter the YouTube stream URL and the stream key shown for the event or selected stream. The key lets the encoder connect to YouTube and send the feed, so treat it like a password: do not publish it, share it with viewers, or include it in a public screenshot. Confirm that the encoder is using the intended key before going live. YouTube’s encoder setup explains the connection details: Live stream with an encoder.

4. Choose the start and stop behavior

Enable auto-start if you want the broadcast to go live when your encoder begins sending content. Enable auto-stop if you want YouTube to stop the broadcast after the encoder stops, and verify the behavior in a test run. These options react to the encoder; neither one starts the encoder at a daily time.

Make the event happen every day

YouTube Studio’s scheduled-event workflow is for an event at a chosen future time; it is not a one-click daily recurrence setting. A daily schedule needs both an event for each occurrence and a dependable process for sending the encoder feed. There are two practical approaches:

Approach Event creation and updates Upcoming event and reminders Encoder start Ongoing work
Schedule events manually in Studio Create each day’s event in Studio; update its details there. Each scheduled event can be presented to viewers as upcoming, with a notification option. Start the encoder yourself or arrange a separate scheduler to start it and send video. Repeated event setup and checks; watch the encoder and stream health.
Manage recurring events through the YouTube API Create multiple broadcast resources and bind them to a stream; an authorized integration or operator must create and maintain the occurrences. Broadcast resources represent separate events; configure and verify each event’s audience-facing details. A separate encoder workflow still has to send the feed at each occurrence. Maintain authorized API access, event data, stream-key handling, encoder scheduling, and failure monitoring.

Manual scheduling

For a small number of upcoming broadcasts, create each event in Studio and set its date and time. This requires more repeated setup, but lets you review the title, visibility, and other event details directly. It does not schedule the encoder, so someone or something still needs to start streaming software and provide the feed.

API-managed recurring events

YouTube’s API documentation describes recurring schedules as multiple broadcast resources bound to a stream—not a single Studio event that repeats indefinitely. Building this requires authorized API access and working code or an integration to create and update each broadcast. The API workflow still does not send video by itself: an encoder must connect and provide the feed for each event. See YouTube Data API: Live Streaming and its guide to automating live events.

Test the complete daily workflow before relying on it

Test the event and the encoder together, not just the Studio schedule. YouTube recommends setting up in advance, checking the preview, testing comparable audio and movement, monitoring stream health, confirming the event is accessible, and stopping the encoder after the event. Follow the current guidance in YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder and YouTube Help: Live streaming tips.

  • Before the event: Confirm the channel is eligible, the event’s date and time are correct, the encoder has the intended stream URL and key, and the scheduled event is visible to its intended audience.
  • During a test: Check the YouTube preview and stream-health status. Test audio and motion representative of the real program so that a static or silent preview does not conceal a problem.
  • At the end: Verify that the encoder stops as intended and that the broadcast ends. Do not assume an interrupted feed will restart or recover automatically.

Troubleshoot a daily stream that does not start

  • The event is scheduled, but nothing goes live: The event schedule does not start an encoder. Start the encoder manually or repair the separate process meant to launch it and send video.
  • The encoder is sending, but YouTube does not start the broadcast: Check that the correct stream key and stream URL are in use, the encoder is actually sending a feed, and auto-start is enabled for the relevant broadcast.
  • The wrong event or details appear: Review reused settings and the event’s date, time, title, visibility, and stream-key selection in Studio.
  • The channel cannot go live: Check verification and any live-streaming restrictions. If streaming was only just enabled, YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
  • The stream starts but its health is poor: Check YouTube’s stream-health information and the encoder’s feed; test again with representative audio and movement before relying on the next unattended occurrence.
  • The stream stops unexpectedly: The cited YouTube setup guidance does not establish a guaranteed recovery behavior for a daily stream. Check whether the encoder is still sending, whether the event has ended, and whether the encoder workflow can be restarted; test recovery rather than assuming it.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is a continuous YouTube channel playing uploaded recordings, rather than a camera broadcast or separate scheduled event each day, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded videos, not a camera feed, and only to YouTube. Each slot streams what you upload at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
