OBS’s VLC Video source can play local lesson files in order and loop them; scheduling a YouTube channel playlist alone does not turn its videos into a live broadcast. Check the date and time displayed in Studio against the school’s intended local timetable before saving.
What you need to schedule
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no livestream restriction. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the first class. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements
- OBS Studio and VLC installed on the computer that will play and send the lessons. OBS’s VLC Video source supports local media files, ordered playback, and looping. OBS Media Sources documentation
- Lesson recordings you are authorized to stream, arranged in the intended order, plus a reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity.
Prepare and test the lesson playlist in OBS
- Put the lesson video files in a clearly named folder and decide their playback order. Check that each file opens and that its audio is audible.
- Open OBS and add a VLC Video source to the scene that will form the stream. If the source is not available, install VLC and restart OBS.
- Add the local files to the source’s playlist in the order they should play. Turn off shuffle to preserve that order.
- Enable looping only if the sequence should repeat after the final lesson. If the school day should end after the last video, leave looping off and plan to stop the stream.
- Preview the scene in OBS. Confirm the video fits the intended canvas, audio levels are audible without clipping, and transitions or black gaps between files are acceptable.
This workflow is for local lesson files. OBS’s documented VLC source does not establish a way to use it as a playback queue for a YouTube channel playlist.
Schedule the YouTube live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live > Manage > Schedule Stream.
- Create a new event or reuse prior settings. Enter the title and description, choose the audience and privacy settings appropriate for the class, and set the scheduled start time.
- Before saving, compare the date and time shown in Studio with the school’s intended local time in India. The available documentation does not establish every current timezone control in Studio, so also open the resulting event page and verify its displayed schedule.
- Save the event and share its watch-page link with the intended audience. Viewers may see it as upcoming and opt into a reminder.
A scheduled broadcast is one live event, not a series of scheduled playlist items. The YouTube Live Streaming API describes each broadcast as representing one YouTube video. YouTube Live Streaming API: LiveBroadcasts
Connect OBS to the scheduled event
- Open the scheduled event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and locate its stream connection details.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream and connect using the YouTube stream URL and stream key provided for the event. Treat the stream key like a password; do not share or publish it.
- Keep the scheduled event and the OBS playlist distinct: the event provides the viewer-facing live page, while OBS sends the actual video and audio feed.
- When ready, start streaming from OBS. Confirm the incoming feed appears in YouTube Studio’s preview before the scheduled start.
Preflight before the school day
- Allow time: YouTube advises setting up an encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes early. YouTube live streaming tips
- Check access: Open the event link from a viewer account or browser session and confirm the chosen public, unlisted, or private setting gives the intended audience access.
- Check picture and sound: Preview the stream, listen for both lesson audio and any unwanted desktop audio, and watch the video for freezes, cropping, or blank frames.
- Check stream health and bandwidth: Monitor the Live Control Room status. YouTube recommends 20% upload bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. YouTube streaming tips
- Check the timetable: Confirm the date, displayed time, playlist order, and whether looping is enabled. The cited documentation does not establish a native school-bell timetable that automatically starts or switches OBS playlists.
End the broadcast and retain a copy
Stop the encoder in OBS after the final lesson or once the scheduled teaching period is over. YouTube can automatically archive streams under 12 hours, but says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep local source files or a separate recording if dependable replay matters. Livestream versus scheduling a video
Scheduling an uploaded video to publish at a chosen time is a different workflow from scheduling a live event that receives an OBS feed. YouTube’s scheduled-video feature publishes a video; the encoder workflow creates a live broadcast. Schedule a video’s publish time
