You can use Streamlabs Desktop to schedule a YouTube livestream event, but scheduling an event is not the same as scheduling a playlist of video files to play automatically. Streamlabs’ documented scheduler sets up the event page and its details; your encoder still has to send the live feed when it is time to broadcast.
What Streamlabs Desktop scheduling does—and does not do
Streamlabs Desktop’s Stream Scheduler lets you create a YouTube livestream event in advance. You choose a date and time and enter event details such as a title and description; the scheduler also offers options for a thumbnail, category, and privacy. Streamlabs says events can be scheduled months ahead, but check the current interface and your account because software features can change. Streamlabs’ scheduling guide describes event setup, not a control for queueing prerecorded videos to play as the stream.
If by “playlist” you mean a sequence of prerecorded videos that should play unattended, do not treat the event scheduler as that feature. Streamlabs’ Media Share feature is for viewer-requested videos; it is different from scheduling a playlist of files.
Schedule the event in Streamlabs Desktop
- Open Stream Scheduler. In Streamlabs Desktop, choose the scheduler and select YouTube as the platform. Pick the event date and time, then enter its title and description. Add a thumbnail, category, and privacy setting if those options are available in your interface.
- Check the event in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live → Manage. Confirm the event appears on the correct channel with the intended time and details. YouTube notes that you can create a new scheduled stream there or reuse settings from a previous stream. YouTube’s encoder livestream guide documents this native scheduling route.
- Confirm the encoder is connected to the right channel and event. If you connect Streamlabs as an encoder using YouTube’s stream URL and stream key, use the credentials shown in the Live Control Room for the intended event. Treat the stream key as a password. If it is compromised, an owner or manager can reset it in YouTube; update the key in Streamlabs afterward or the encoder will no longer authenticate. See YouTube’s live stream settings.
- Start the encoder before the scheduled start. Scheduling creates the event; it does not start the feed. For an encoder-based event, YouTube’s instructions are to start the encoder, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, then click Go live. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the process.
- Verify the event is visible as intended. Check its scheduled time and visibility in YouTube Studio. Scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, where viewers can use Notify me. YouTube’s live settings guidance covers scheduled-stream visibility and reminders.
Schedule it directly in YouTube Studio instead
You can create the event in YouTube’s own Live Control Room rather than entering event details in Streamlabs first. Go to YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream, then create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream. This is a practical choice if you prefer managing the event in YouTube and then connecting your encoder to it. Streamlabs’ scheduler is convenient if you want to prepare the event in the same desktop app you use to encode. In either case, confirm the channel and event match before you start sending video.

Prepare and test before broadcast time
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event, starting it at least 15 minutes before, and checking the preview before you go live. Use that time to confirm Streamlabs is sending to the intended scheduled event and that the preview is working. The timing recommendations are from YouTube’s live streaming tips.
- Confirm the event’s date, time, title, and visibility in YouTube Studio.
- Confirm Streamlabs is connected to the correct YouTube channel and event.
- Start the encoder early enough for YouTube’s preview to appear, then use Go live in Live Control Room when ready.
- If you reset a compromised stream key, replace the old key in Streamlabs before broadcasting.
Troubleshooting
The event is scheduled, but nothing is streaming
The scheduled event is only the watch page and event time. Start the encoder, wait for YouTube’s preview, and click Go live in Live Control Room. Scheduling alone does not send a feed.

The stream goes to the wrong event or channel
Check the selected YouTube account in Streamlabs and compare it with the channel and event in YouTube Studio. If you connect using a stream URL and key, retrieve the credentials from the intended event’s Live Control Room.
YouTube does not accept the stream key
The key may have been reset or may belong to another event or channel. Check the current key in YouTube Live Control Room and update it in Streamlabs. A reset invalidates the old credential.

You expected a prerecorded playlist to play on its own
The documented Streamlabs scheduler sets up an event; it does not document an automatic playlist player for prerecorded files. Media Share is a separate viewer-request feature, not a substitute for playlist scheduling.
